Diolch Gary

Gary Speed will forever be a legend. I was lucky enough to see him play for Wales and although this was at the tail end of his career his dedication was obvious, and something a lot of other players could have learned from. He remains my country's most capped outfield player, which is testament to his loyalty to Wales. He seemed to be what could be described as a model professional; you would never read about any antics in the media and he seemed like a decent and likable man.

When he got the job as Wales manager I have to say I wasn't convinced that it was a good move by the FAW, but Gary Speed proved me wrong and Wales went from 117th in the world rankings to the lofty heights of 45th. He was proving himself to be a good manager and there was a lot more positivity around Welsh international football than for years.

When I found out that he was dead I was gobsmacked and couldn't quite believe it. Even now when I think about it I can't believe what happened. I feel privileged to have seen him play and am proud that he was a Welshman who both played for and managed my national team. He will never be forgotten by the Welsh football fraternity, and nor should he be.

I ma about to watch Cardiff City on Match of the Day for the first time in the Premier League. That's pretty cool. Not least because it means I don't have to stay up until ridiculously late to watch a few measly seconds of poor coverage.

C'mon City!

Tomorrow I travel to East London. I happened to be there early last week, but tomorrow I travel for different reasons. I have been to the Boleyn Ground once before to see Cardiff get well beaten in the Playoffs. That I was more or less expecting.

Tomorrow is a different kettle of fish. I'm not sure what to expect. There are a few new players in the Cardiff squad which is travelling to an experienced West Ham side who I'm sure are- to use the local vernacular- no mugs. I'm hoping for a point. If we're really going to make a go of this Premiership lark we can't come back from places like West Ham with nothing. And with Manchester City and Everton on the horizon it is vital to get something on the board tomorrow.
