Usually, this situation is the other way around. She should be the one wrapped in darkness, shackles pulling her to the ground, the cold barrel of a gun to her forehead--
But she is not. She is in the company of familiar faces, a blanket wrapped around her, hands encasing a warm cup of tea as she waits. Impatiently, she fidgets in her seat, golden hues glancing upwards on occasion in order to see if there would be the slightest change of expression on her sisterās cold countenance.
It is her fault, she knows- it always has been. Her existence is a burden to this organization, yet she is still allowed to stay. She is only someone extra to keep watch over, yet she continues to be protected. Those her age did not go through the torture of interrogation on the few occasions where she is kidnapped for information. Those her age, as well, was not capable of maintaining the smile she still donned after all she has been through.
This is because she has a guardian and a sister. Her elder sister provided her with a guardian who treated her life much more highly than his own. Proof of that is in the fact that she is the one free while he remains enchained in the hands of her sisterās enemies.
Solf-san may be strong, but he is still human. Perhaps this is why she is scared. Though she has been told on countless occasions to remain stoic, to mature quickly, to not worry because everything will be alright, she is still a child at heart. She had not grown up at all.
Finally, the click of the door breaks the tense silence. Isanami springs from her seat immediately, grasping the blanket loosely as she sets down her cup. She can see her sister smirk at her accomplishment, or rather, the accomplishment of her men. They bring in her guardian, supporting him on either side as they slowly walk inside the room.
Her sister gives a slight tilt of her head, and the two supporting soldiers stop and slowly descend to the ground, placing her guardian down carefully. Isanami takes it as her cue to sprint towards the other, pulling the blanket and hastily wrapping it around the elderās broader frame.
But while she does this, her thin arms wrap around his body, pulling him into a vice-like hug as she buries her face into his chest, bloodied clothing scratching into her features but nothing harmful enough to leave scars.
And as anyone would expect, she cries. Her fingers cling to the back of his suit, perhaps digging into his wounds, and her frantic hug might be constraining a bit of oxygen flow to his lungs, but she is far too relieved to pay any mind to it currently. Her guardian had finally made it home. She was scared that those would have been his last words. Those simple words, āGo to your sisterā, would have been the last thing he would have said to her.
Isanami is struck again with the reminder that any one of her loved ones could be gone. Perhaps today might be the last time she could see them. But at least, today, this was not the case. She could see Solf-san again after he was retrieved from the darkness.
