The racism following a Leave vote was predictable and people don't deserve to be harassed in a country they want to call home. This is a little thing that has been providing people with some comfort and security. (Spread the idea)

he shot 49 queers tonight and I feel them every one

and when it is reported that this act, within one of the sacred safe places we have carved for ourselves, was nothing to do with being queer

with politicians falling over themselves to stamp large letters, I and S, over the man holding the gun and I think the words should not read terrorism, but us

for while homophobia binds the law books and lines the gutters it whispers in church and falls through the doors scribbling “God hates fags” in clay minds it hangs lonely teenagers in their bedrooms and fills every pill bottle of the closet cases in the hospital

you try to blame this on gun laws and extremism and anything but yourself. for who would want to admit they had something in common with a mass murderer

and so we stand up and light candles and burn burn burn with the fiercest love an unrivalled, unparalleled resilience and empathy and diversity and acceptance and colour

and as a whisper slips from my lips, “stop killing us”, while I look at those 50 stars on the American flag there are 50 more stars in our black sky tonight
