Jabu Nadia Newman is an artist who works through the mediums of photography and film. Using an agenda of pushing intersectional feminism her work is largely based on the different and complex identities of South African womxn. The creator of SA’s newest feminist webseries The Foxy Five. which has been featured on prestigious media platforms as Okayafrica, Mail & Guardian, The Citypress and others which completed 6 episodes between June 2016 and June 2017. Newman has worked with other influential South African artist such as Dope Saint Jude and Angel-Ho. In 2017 she spoke at the Design Indaba Simulcast Conference 2017 and has screened her work at The Black Filmmakers Festival, The Labia, 12th XPOSED International Queer Film Festival Berlin and more. She’s also directed and shot two short films which include a fashion film called Dirty Laundry 2016 and a documentary called Femme In Public 2017 which featured queer and trans activists Alok Vaid-Menon, Joshua Allen, Quaid “Queezy” Heneke and more. She recently completed an artist residency at the Orms Cape Town School of Photography which resulted in a solo exhibition entitled Mokwena, Mac Quena, Mac Quene. She also recently wrote and directed a music video for duo FAKA.
