Where the original ideas came from.
“Art’s meant to be messy” - me, defending how messy it is.
ADAD1001 Assessment 1.
I began with a brainstorm and experiments and ended with something totally, kind of different. I pictured shadows and lighting, representing the inner moods and feelings escaping from an individual’s mind. I ended up with no purposeful shadows, a different form of lighting and a major focus on the feelings and emotions of an individual. Through my final experiments, I was curious about the elemental effects on boxes, and decided after I had begun what I thought was another experiment that it turned out perfectly. I wrote “I’m fine” on the outside and “I’m not okay” on the inside as a simple, yet truthful representation of how an individual may look and feel if suffering from a mental illness. Once it was on fire, it all made sense, although I was terrified it was going to shrivel up instead of looking artistic.
If an individual is suffering from mental illness of any kind does not seek help, the mental illness will destroy their mind and body. The further the deterioration and destruction progresses, the more their inner truth is revealed as it begins to claw its way through their outer shell. This piece of art represents the deterioration of a troubled mind.
Experiment 1, 2 and 3.
Experiment 1 revolved around exploring the shape, size and manipulation of the boxes. Experiment 2 followed my brainstorms which was about using lighting and shadows to portray different emotions and reveal an individual’s inner thoughts. This did not turn out how I wanted it to. Therefore, I wanted to try something completely different and carefree: burn it. Experiment 3 was burning the box and seeing how it reacted and how it burned – was it slow, fast, large, small etc.
This lead to my final artwork. I drew from my brainstorm and 3rd experiment where the box could represent and individual’s thoughts and feelings and the fire could really enhance the message.
Modern foil meets old school, hand knitted, fabric back chair, and it suspends itself.
Interesting way from Sydney to Tokyo, minus the map to make it vague
5 minute session and rule of thirds is a great way to start the day
“Turn an everyday object into something completely different.” It started as a speaker, progressed to a torch, and ended as.. this. A miniature light display/projection screen/ theatre of some sort. Once you start, it’s hard to stop. You begin creating something and it turns out completely different as your mind develops more and more ideas the further your design progresses. I could happily say, as much as this is just a coffee cup, it’s not done, but I have more important things to do.
