Imbolc is a cross quarter day, the halfway point between the Winter Solstice and the Spring Equinox. Some people write about it as the beginning of Spring. But that depends on where you live. The standard media picture of Imbolc tends to be the flower Snowdrop (galant husnivalis) sprouted and flowering through the snow. But they do not readily grow here in North Florida, where we may get snow maybe once every 10 or 12 years. This year was a snow year, with 4 inches falling at my house. But just over 10 days later on Imbolc, the snow was gone, and the hope of the coming Spiring was beginning to show. The first signs here are the White Violets, our Snowdrop, and the Taiwan Cherry.
