Ever wonder when you audition, what the scene is actually going to be like? Sometimes productions may give a fake script for the audition, especially if it is a high profile show or one with the potential for spoilers. You may get one scene to audition for and that is the entire costar role, other times, you may get booked and realize that there are a dozen more scenes in addition to what you submitted. And then there is always the chance of recurring or getting cut. As an actor, you just never know what will or will not make it to the final cut from the audition to air. *** Just for fun, I compiled a couple of clips from my audition and booking for Netflix's "13 Reasons Why" as the costar role of Ms. Oakley. I was originally booked off tape for a single episode costar role. My audition was 3 short scenes, which were all filmed, but not all clips made it to the final episode. Then, I was brought back for a small scene in a second episode a couple weeks later. Then, I was written in for a third episode, which was unfortunately cut before I got a chance to even filmed it. It's also fun to see how the 'acting' can change by being in the environment, surrounded by other actors, as well as the directions given by the director on the day. *** Staying flexible is a huge part of being an actor, whether it is auditioning, booking or performing. And recognizing that changes can happen at any step of the process... script writing, filming and editing. by Jackie Dallas
