Seeing Kinc’s reaction had Peri smiling, a bit of the nervousness leaving him. It had been silly of him to worry at all, really. And yet he’d been anxious anyway, for no reason.
A smile tugged at his lips as he watched Kinc play with the ring, warmth catching in his chest.
“I stole it. It was… it was my father’s. When he passed away, ma took it off his body and wanted to sell it for.. for more money to run away with, presumably. But I knew where she was keeping it… I took it and hid it where she and gran would never find it…” Mismatched eyes followed the ring as light danced off of it- it looked at home on Kinc’s hand, he was glad to see it there.
“She beat me day in and day out…. She knew I’d stolen it, but I refused to tell her where it was… Keeping that ring a secret was… my first piece of freedom, my first thing to cling to, to keep myself. And it was the only thing I took with me when I ran for good… It’s… the most sentimental thing I have save the ring I gave to Angel…. And… I’m glad to see it on you…”
After the other finished the story, Kinc leaned over and pressed a kiss to his mouth, soft and loving.
“Thank you, my love. I love it and I love you.”
