5 Tips for Job Interviews
1. Know the Company. It is a must that you do research about the company you’re applying for before the interview. More likely than not, you will be asked a question about how much you know about their company. If you don’t have an answer, that makes a horrible first impression.
2. Listen. Do not over-share and do not talk endlessly when you answer a question. Be succinct in your answers, and really listen when they give you feedback or more information. When they’re talking, make eye-contact and really engage in the conversation. Nod your head, reply when appropriate, but don’t control the situation. You’re the one being interviewed, don’t try and run the show.
3. Spin the Positive. You will undoubtedly be asked a question about your biggest weakness or a negative experience you’ve had in a workplace. Although it may seem impossible, spin everything negative into a positive. For example, I said in a recent interview, “One of my biggest weaknesses is I’m shy at first and it’s hard for me to take charge, but after a few days I become much more comfortable and can be more open with my fellow students.” Never end an answer with something negative.
4. Be Passionate. It may seem weird to be passionate about flipping burgers or folding clothes, but find something about the job that you are interested in and really go for it. If you genuinely sound excited about the opportunity to explore this interest, they will be much more receiving of your application.
5. Be Prepared. Do not come to a job interview empty-handed. Always have a copy of your resume and your reference sheet. You never want to have to say no when they ask to see your resume. Always research some possible questions they might ask. The more information you take in before the interview, the less stressed you will be during the actual thing.

An essential part of interview preparation is formulating answers to specific questions. And there are some standard questions that frequently come up during an interview. Here are five of the most common interview questions, as well as what the employer is looking for in your response.

5. Where do you see yourself in five years’ time? Unless you’ve been peering into your crystal ball recently, it’s impossible to give an accurate answer to this question. What the employer is looking for is an indication of long-term commitment. If you are the preferred candidate, will their investment pay off? Your response should imply that you intend to stick around and grow your career with the company. You may also want to turn the tables and ask the hiring manager where she sees the company in five years’ time.
I’ve been asked all of these in interviews. Something I’ve also been asked is if I knew what the agency’s mission statement was. This is something many people overlook. Every law enforcement agency has a mission statement (usually found on their website) and you should take the time to memorize it. Sometimes crime labs will have a separate mission statement than the one for the main agency. Keep this in mind! This can also apply to jobs outside law enforcement. Be sure to look into whether the place you are interviewing for has a mission statement or not. It’s also good to know general history of the company (example: when it was founded and by who), know who the current CEO or president is, etc.

A Brief History of People Getting Fired for Social Media Stupidity
Not a day goes by, it seems, without a new story of someone posting an unbelievably tasteless, offensive, stupid, racist, homophobic, sexist or otherwise inappropriate thing on social media. Bigotry expressed in private is inexcusable, but bigotry voluntarily scribbled upon the un-erasable blackboard that is the Internet is a new kind of unbelievable. It boggles the mind that people will actually document and broadcast their terrible ideas online – especially given the documented and broadcast history of people getting fired over similar behavior. And yet, they do.
Just this month, we’ve gotten fresh examples of the genre from Paula Deen, who apparently likes ethnic drag as much as she likes cooking with butter; and from the British bankers who thought it would be fun toplayact an ISIS beheading. Here’s a look back at those and some of the other most ridiculous and terrible things people have posted to their Twitter, Facebook and Instagram accounts before losing their jobs as a result. Several years ago I left the corporate world to persue my own entrepreneurial dreams. In my quest to find success outside of the corporate world I read countless books and networked with hundreds upon hundreds of prominent business owners, business leaders, entrepreneurs and freelancers. With each encounter, I inquired about their secrets to success. Many people shared timeless tips, while others told me some ugly truths; all of which were beneficial to my growth as an entrepreneur.

Ask for help and advice – If you don’t know, ask. And trust me, you don’t know as much as you think you do. When I first started toying with the idea of leaving my career that I had worked tirelessly at for over a decade, I met with dozens of people. I asked those in my network to connect me with their network, and I set up a lot of coffee dates. To this day, I still connect with those I aspire to be like and ask them for guidance. Here Are 10 Reasons Why Turning 30 Is Going To Be Golden
I had great conversation with a very close girlfriend a few days ago about the benefits of turning 30.
To be honest, I’m utterly grateful to be exiting my 20s. There’s a special sense of freedom, consistency and self-awareness that is creeping into my life and I couldn’t be more pleased.
During my 20s, I inflicted a lot of self-suffering because like many others, I cared way too much about what everyone thought. It’s absolutely impossible to skip this passage into adulthood and I often feel that we all have to spend a certain amount of time caring, to learn how not to care.
In a few weeks I will turn 30.
As I examine the past 10 years of my life, I realize that it has become less about what others think of me or my choices and more about whether I’m smiling or frowning. When people ask me questions about what I do, who I’m with or where I’m going, I often become quite tense because I feel that they are asking all the wrong questions.
