Very childish in parts, although it did fit well with the plot and the overall theme. This isn’t necessarily a bad thing as it simply and easily got the message through regarding the age of characters and their mentality.

Great plot development, however, and twists that I was not expecting at all. There weren’t any noticeable plot holes either, making it an easy and enjoyable read without re-reading sections to fill in the gaps (this happens to me sometimes).

It was well-written in a style that suited the MC perfectly. As the character aged, the overall style changed to suit, which was done seamlessly.

The hops between times did get a little confusing at time and it did feel a little like a journal at times, which didn’t sit all that comfortably with me.

Although it can get a little dark at times and the language is a little strong (this didn’t bother me at all though) it made a fantastic light read.

I don’t think I’d read another of Lockhart’s books, however. The style of this book, however fitting, isn’t what I normally look for and whilst it’s good to push boundaries, that particular style is a too big a push for me.

5 STARS ***** Sequel slump is definitely not a thing here.

Instead of just continuing the story and hitting a few bumps in the road, something I personally find happens a lot in book series, this book develops in such a way that you cannot put it down.

Character development and new introduction of characters is done in an impeccable manor. Development of characters who were previously thought as less important, filler characters almost, is a pleasant surprise and it really adds depth to the book and the series as a whole.

I read this in a matter of days and the third in the series will be started immediately.

I think I’ve just found my new favourite trilogy.
