okay, so! this is something i've already spoken to shelby about, but i'll give you the short version. basically these two men called soaper and keeley came here a good few years ago, in the early 1900s, they were looking to find some evidence of what it was like living here before, you know, the place burned to the ground, and they found about forty documents in all that had managed to survive the fire. now, obviously, i wasn't able to bring any of that out with me, that's all still sitting in the archives, but i do have a pretty good grasp on what all the artefacts were and the kinds of things they don't tell us and all.
i guess my first question would be - so there's these two separate pamphlets in the collection, both church-made, we think from a few years apart, and they both bring up vampires in different ways. there's Be Not Beguiled which is kind of about, like, don't fall for a vampire's sinful charms, you might think they promise you worldly pleasures but you're actually signing your soul away to an eternity of damnation... and then there's Common Man's Wisdom which is mostly about just normal ways of keeping you safe but then it also has this whole big section about defending yourself from creatures of the night, which i didn't really understand before i got here, but now i think it might not be about vampires at all, it might be about those other creatures of the night that we keep fighting?
that's not a question, is it. erm. well, do those sound familiar to you, like any sermons you might have heard? you must've gone to church, when you were a young man?
