“Mmmm, is that so?” She grinned as she looped her arms around his neck. “You left some work for me to help with didn’t you?” She asked leaning up to give him another kiss. She loved his lips and the way his eyes pecked out under his lids as she pulled away. Marina didn’t have words to describe the feelings he gave her.

Jacob laughed, kissing her nose gently. “Of course I didn’t.” He replied easily, shaking his head. “For all your intuition, you should have seen that one coming.” He teased, grinning ruefully at her. “Iris and I have it down to a science by now - besides, it gives me more time to do this.” Jake purred, stepping into her again for a kiss.

Marina had gotten up for a phone call and come back with a drink for Jacob. She just knew he would want one. She came back, ready to settle down beside him. “I had a feeling.” She teased, scratching Iris’ head as she moved for her. “Thank you Iris.” She told her as she sat down and curled comfortably into her place beside him. “Did I miss anything?” She asked, her visions rarely extending to the tv shows they watched together. 

“Starting to love your feelings.” He laughed, taking a satisfied sip of the drink she’d handed him. Leaning back, he wrapped his arm around her shoulders as she cuddled up next to him, and had an almost out of body experience, in awe not for the first time of how happy he was with her. “Not really. Mark missed his flight to stay with Addison, but we all saw that coming.”

“So I’ve got some news.” He started talking as soon as he entered her shop, hopping up onto the counter next to where she stood. “Do you need to put on some background music or do you want me to just tell it to you straight?”

“Come on, move your shop to Pinewood Plains and come hang out with me and Melody.” He whined, grinning at her. “It’ll be more fun than here.”

“I take all of my holidays with my dog. She lets me make all the decisions, and she’s happy no matter what. Perfect companion.”

It wasn’t everyday that Mica received a request for an engagement ring without diamonds, but she was up to the task. “They’re vines of ivy actually.” Mica smiled, proud of the ring she’d made. “It’s nice choice for a person connected to nature. Is that what you’re looking for?” She reached for the ring inside the glass casing so that he could have a closer look.

“Yes, actually.” He was impressed with the ring, but it didn’t feel exactly right. He would know it when he saw it, he knew that much. That’s how it always was with Marina - he didn’t ever have a solid reason, but it was always perfect. “But - I don’t know, it’s a beautiful ring. Is there a way to get one with simpler leaves?”

Jacob always assumed he would be nervous, whenever he met someone and wanted to propose. But tonight, here with Marina, he was feeling mostly at peace. He hadn’t even reached for the small box in his pocket, he would just know when the time was right. “Thank you, baby. Exactly what I wanted.” He murmured, kissing her cheek as she returned with a drink for him. He shooed Iris from the couch, making room for Marina.

Mica looked up from the accounting books she was reviewing, not having heard him come in. “Engagement rings that aren’t diamonds, hmmm.” She closed the books and started thinking about the items she had in stock. “Follow me over here.” She lead him towards the engagement ring section and pointed towards a few choices that weren’t diamond centered. ”What about these?

He waited patiently as she thought, glancing around the shop. Jacob didn’t really know how to do this - he figured most people probably knew what they were looking for, but Jake was going off of his gut. And that was hard to describe. “They’re beautiful.” He nodded, a few standing out to him. “Can I see that one? In the middle? With the -” He leaned closer. “Are they leaves?”

“I usually have good timing, do I not?” She teased as she dropped her hiking gear to greet him.

“You do.” He grinned, making his way toward her. Jake wiped his hands on his jeans before he placed them lightly on her waist, leaning in to kiss her. “It’s one of the things I love about you.”

Jacob wiped the sweat from his forehead, hammering the last corner of his tent into the ground. Even though it was cold out, he was burning up - preferring to do it the no-maj way always got his blood moving. He saw Iris get up and run, smiling before he saw her. "Hey, babe. Good timing, I'm just about all set up here."

Jacob was nearly vibrating with nervous excitement as he entered the shop, glancing around at all the displays. He wasn't sure they'd have what he was looking for - he wasn't sure exactly what he was looking for. But he knew he'd know it when he saw it. "Excuse me - do you have any engagement rings that aren't diamonds?"

“You make it sound like we’re mechanics,” Guinevere laughed. “I’ve been good, you know, focused on work so if you’re trying to get away from talking about work we better talk about you instead.”

“Some of them.” He hedged, doubt clear in his voice. Jake supposed she was probably right, but it was also probably very rare. “Enough shop talk, how have you been?”

“Oh that sounds beautiful! When do you plan to do that?” She asked, wrapping her arms around his neck and settling in to her favorite place to be; his arms.

“As soon as school starts.” He murmured with a grin as she got closer, tightening his hold on her. “So we can come see our favorite teacher while we’re in the area.”

“When you are my love.” She smiled, squeezing his hand before they went in. “They really did a beautiful job. It’s a little off balance but nice.” She smiled up at him, using him to focus her thoughts like she did from time to time.

He nodded once more, letting her strength flow through their touch and into him, taking one more deep breath as they entered. He smiled back, the small gesture calming him. It would be okay, as long as she was with him. “Well, I wouldn’t expect them to get it exactly right.”
