What a powerful musical with a profound message and beautiful soundtrack. This video makes me cry every. single. time.
I am brave, I am bruised I am who I'm meant to be, this is me Look out 'cause here I come And I'm marching on to the beat I drum I'm not scared to be seen I make no apologies, this is me
“Love cannot exist without freedom, and freedom cannot exist without responsibility. We must own and take responsibility for what is ours, and that includes our disappointment in not getting everything we want from another person. The disappointment that comes from our loved ones exercising their freedom is our responsibility. We must deal with it. This is the only way to keep love alive.”
— from Changes that Heal by Henry Cloud
Our God is the Lion, the Lion of Judah He's roaring with power and fighting our battles And every knee will bow before Him Our God is the Lamb, the Lamb that was slain For the sin of the world, His blood breaks the chains And every knee will bow before the Lion and the Lamb Oh every knee will bow before the Lion and the Lamb
From heaven’s throne, You came to us And set your heart upon the cross We’ll never know the sacrifice you’ve made For all our sin and all our shame You took the nails, you took our place No one else could do what you have done
One name is higher One name is stronger Than any grave, than any throne Christ exalted over all
Today’s devotional reads:
Living a life worthy of the gospel does not mean pretending to be perfect. Instead, it means having the humility to think of others as better than ourselves (Phil. 2:3). It means putting self-concern aside to work together, realizing that we are all still in process. Let us have the grace of God for each other that He gave us in the overlooking of sins and the outpouring of unmerited love. And together we can strive in the holiness imputed to us in Christ and promised to us in the age to come.
I have a lot of expectations for myself and also others around me. I idealize the perfect world. This unrealistic view and expectations often lead to anxiety, disappointment, and inability to appreciate the present. But I’m reminded today that it’s okay not to be perfect. It’s okay to stumble and make mistakes. It’s okay to fall seven times so long as I get back up every single time.
Lately I’m constantly reminded from various sources to enjoy the present. Relish everything that’s in front of me without looking back or yearning for the future.
...at the moment, I’m taking pleasure in listening to Jim Brickman while reading a new book that I received as a gift from a friend. It’s a peaceful night.

“We must recover the truth that was obscured by the Serpent: rather than being like God in his unlimited divinity, we are to be like God in our limited humanity. We are capable of bearing his image as we were intended only when we embrace our limits. Image-bearing means becoming fully human, not becoming divine. It means reflecting as a limited being the perfections of a limitless God.”
-- An excerpt from None Like Him by Jen Wilkin
Jen Wilkin unravels who God is who we are not. Love. this. book.
O what peace we often forfeit, O what needless pain we bear, all because we do not carry everything to God in prayer Have we trials and temptations? Is there trouble anywhere? We should never be discouraged, take it to the Lord in prayer Can we find a friend so faithful who will all our sorrows share? Jesus knows our every weakness, take it to the Lord in prayer
Took the call off from work today and couldn’t fall back to sleep. Lying in bed wondering what I wanted to do on this unexpected day off. Tossing and turning, something whispers my heart to go on a spontaneous trip. Somewhere my soul loves. Somewhere in the wilderness. Of nature.
Hanging rock. No, I’ve hiked there too many times. I want to explore somewhere I have yet to discover. Thank goodness for Alltrails app, I forgot how I had been wanting to check out the Stone Mountain.
Light traffic. No rain in the forecast. Two hours feel too long when your anticipation is building up.
I arrive at the upper trailhead. Once I get to the Stone Mountain Loop trail, I veer to the left to get to the summit. I hike my way through the trail, occasionally getting lost but somehow finding my way back to the right path. I’m not directionally challenged after all. Miles later, I see a sign saying the summit loop was closed due to recent fire. Poop. Frustrated, I turn back and see a park ranger by Hutchinson homestead. He says I should’ve taken right instead of left at the start of the trail. But he goes on to recommend the Wolf Rock trail on my way back. It will take me longer to get to the Stone Mountain Loop summit, but the view is worth it.
I hate detours. It gives me heart palpitations when things don’t go as I had planned. But you know what? I decided to explore the Wolf Rock trail on my way back. So what if it takes a little longer? I’m in no rush.
Drenched in sweat and just as when my body could not take the hike any longer, I saw the glimpse of the end of the Wolf Rock trail. Almost there.
Here. The summit view from the Wolf Rock trail unfolds in front of my eyes. The view is magnificent. As I’m standing in awe, speechless, with my heart overwhelmed with inexplicable emotions, and my voice humming How Great Thou Art, I couldn’t help but to still yearn for something more. Yearning for perfection. Yearning for the fullness of heart. Feeling the coexisting sense of fullness and emptiness as if the view wasn’t perfect enough. Feeling the gaping hole in my heart. Feeling as though I’m missing someone I love whom I haven’t seen in a long time. Some peculiar emotions that I couldn’t quite fathom. Then C. S. Lewis’s quote came to my mind: “If we find ourselves with a desire that nothing in this world can satisfy, the most probable explanation is that we were made for another world.”
What a sweet reminder.
Taking this detour took a little longer to get to the summit I had originally planned on checking out, but this bypass took me to this place where I would have never thought about exploring. Not just that, where this detour took me reminded me of the ultimate promise and the fullness of joy that we will one day taste when we are made whole.
I’ve taken many life detours. I took many roads less traveled, mostly not by choice. I used to hate these detours. But without these detours, I would’ve never seen the glimpse of the glory or tasted the sweetness of Jesus. Even through countless heart palpitations and sudden rush of panic from these life detours, what’s revealed along the way is precious and I wouldn’t trade them for the world.
So glad I took the call off today.
One voice in the dark, A song that lights up the stars One breath that gives life One sovereign in power Who speaks with thunder and fire One Lord One King There is no other that can compare to You You are The one alone in greatness The one who never changes Jesus You are The One who rose in power The One who reigns forever Jesus the one true God One man on a cross And One light of the world One Name One word One way to be saved And one lamb that was slain One love above all There is no other that can compare to You And we have seen His Glory of The One and only Son of God And You are

Seeing people who are deeply in love Jesus that praise God even through strife and pain in life encourages and reminds me how worthy our God is. He is the King of kings and the Lord of lords. He is more than what we can fathom, and He deserves all our praise no matter what challenges we encounter.
The strength of patience hangs on our capacity to believe that God is up to something good for us in all our delays and detours.
John Piper
'Tis so sweet to trust in Jesus Just to take Him at His Word Just to rest upon His promise Just to know Thus sayeth the Lord
Jesus Jesus how I trust him How I've proved him o'er and o'er Jesus Jesus precious Jesus O for grace to trust him more
“This phrase, "Yet once more," indicates the removal of things that are shaken—that is, things that have been made—in order that the things that cannot be shaken may remain. Therefore let us be grateful for receiving a kingdom that cannot be shaken, and thus let us offer to God acceptable worship, with reverence and awe, for our God is a consuming fire.” - Hebrews 12:27-29
God knows what I need and has chosen for me what I would not have chosen for myself, given my limited perspectives on life and my penchant for my own comfort. But if I had God's perspective and knew what he knows, I would undoubtedly choose what he has given me. It has all been necessary.

It’s not my battle to win. It has already been won. Jesus conquered death. He has won the victory.
It is done. It is finished.
Rest in the finished work of Christ.
