dance dance revolution! ft. @beseojun
the squeaks of rubber shoes on the hardwood floor reverberated through the empty hall, filling jaeyeol's senses with a comforting feeling amidst the cacophony. it was strange yet sanguine, like an old friend he'd known since childhood. there was no dance without movement, and what better way to signify that aside from the sound of shoes? even though it didn't always seem like it, jaeyeol was meticulous to a fault, especially when it came to anything that aligned with his passion.
jaeyeol instinctively reached for his bluetooth earbuds, the r&b song that he had been looping over the past week on the ready. he was eager to immerse himself in movements, freestyle even, so long as it got him away from thoughts of his midterms. the oncoming all nighter hung over his head ominously, and jaeyeol prayed that he could indulge himself before getting back to work. placing one earbud into his ear, he let the familiar beats and tunes flood his senses, fueling his motivation to practice and perfect the choreo that was already coming together in his mind. jaeyeol's gaze wandered through the hallway, searching for an unoccupied room.
damn it, he stifled a sigh, maybe i should've booked a room or something.
of course there were no free rooms. it was a quarter to eight, during an oncoming weekend for crying out loud! still, despite reasoning with himself, it wasn't enough to quell jaeyeol's bout of disappointment. the least he could do was to try and share a room; to keep to his own corner until he was left alone. as if speaking to himself, jaeyeol heaved a half-hearted shrug as he decided to chance it with the next room. peeking in, his sharp eyes widened as they fell upon an open door, revealing another person already engrossed in their own practice session. it was a bit of a bummer, but something he at least came to expect.
"oh, sorry," jaeyeol courteously apologized, bowing respectfully to the individual inside the room. "didn't mean to interrupt. mind if I also use this room? i'll stay in the corner - promise!"
seojun usually didn't get chances like this to practice dances other than what his company had him do to make sure his skills were up to par. he was taking this chance now though since he had a dance prepared for another video he wanted to upload to his channel at some point. his heartbeat followed along with the music he was letting his body flow to. it was second nature for him to push out any sort of choreography but he loved the extra challenge of making it his own. this cover would be great and he was excited to get the chance to record it when he felt ready.
would he get the chance to record it though? maybe on his day off he could and probably convince his best friend to record it for him. he's sure that the other male wouldn't mind helping him out.
he had been so engrossed that he almost jumped upon hearing a voice. he turned his gaze to the other male at the door, his eyes wide with surprise. he should have kept the door closed but nope, he decided that it wasn't important in the moment. he didn't mind the other though. he was just taken off guard if anything.
flashing the other a smile, he shook his head a bit. "it's fine. you might have scared me a bit there. go right ahead, i don't mind company." it was better than being alone though that meant he might have someone else's eyes on him. he threw that thought away instantly, not wanting it to linger. "i mean if you want. i don't mind how much room you take up. i'm all for sharing."
“ah, thank you!”
bowing gratefully, jaeyeol made his way over to the far end of the room, hoping not to disrupt the other male’s routine. even still, he couldn’t help himself from stealing glances, admiring his form and groove. as a dancer himself, or so he liked to proclaim, he always felt appreciation and admiration for those with more experience. jaeyeol adjusted the bluetooth earphone into his ear as he situated himself in front of the mirror. the hoodie and track pants swished with every movement in his warm up, getting his blood warm and pumping. with a lithe finger, he pressed the play button on his phone, the opening chords of the song he wanted to play filling his ears. jaeyeol began to follow the choreography he had made, revising certain steps to fit better. every movement, every step, every beat, he matched it as best as he could, hoping to at least make something solid to have up his arsenal.
for a while, jaeyeol danced in perpetual silence – despite the other person in the room – absorbed in his practice. he often had a habit of watching himself as if he were an audience member. the man crticized his every move, correcting and revising with each passing second. the sweat stuck to his forehead, with dreams of one day being bathed in the lights and the screams of the crowd. with a bated breath, jaeyeol put his hands on his knees as he stole a glance towards the other side of the room. it was evident that the other man's passion for dance was evident, and it inspired him to push himself even harder.
but right now was time for a break. he reached over towards the mirror for his water bottle.
