90th Birthday of the now deceased Patrice Lumumba (Being detained in the photo.) Lumumba played a major role in the liberation of The Republic of the Congo from Belgium and has became a symbol of freedom and liberty in African and across the world. He was assassinated January 17, 1961 by Katangan officials (Who were armed by the American and Belgian governments.) The reasons for his death were Capitalism in its dirtiest form. Belgian officials sought to create a breakaway state called Katanga. Katanga is southeastern region of The Congo which contains many mineral deposits and mining is a major industry. The Belgians and Americans created and backed many militant groups in the area and illegally overthrew the legitimate Congolese government in attempts to cause civil war and anarchy as they secured Katanga.
Patrice Lumumba wanted peace, justice and liberty for all Africans especially those who had been labelled Congolese by European Imperialists. He imagined an undivided Congo would possess a stronger and better future for its citizens and all of Africa. Belgians and The Americans wanted money, and land and allowed millions to die in the process.
