note : a lot of this is stuff i’ve heard from folks who’ve seen it live , but most of it is my own musings !! contains spoilers under the cut for reprised , the digital ticket , the proshot , and the uk digital ticket :3
paul unplugs and plugs his mouse back in
he does little air quotes around hp “inkjet”
i don’t think he really likes mr davidson ?? when he enters paul looks slightly visibly annoyed / over it
^^ he like? hesitates to put his hands back on the keyboard and makes a face like “jeez this guy”
he looks over when charlotte says cuddle night
paul HATES ted i love it so much
after the godspell jokes both he and emma would realize how close they’d gotten to each other and sort of scoot/look away from each other
he looks like he’s rehearsing it for a second before he says “i don’t like musicals” boy why you so autism
he looks SO uncomfortable during lah dee dah dah day. like every time someone touches him he makes a face and flinches away
he’s also far more noise sensitive in reprised!! he flinches every time the hive claps
paul repeats bill’s hand motion from “it’s a musical!!” when he’s trying to explain to the ccrp gang what happened
he looks like he’s going to cry during wdywp
when mr davidson is wheeling him around the desk he scrabbles for the phone. to do what dude ? who are you gonna call
DYSLEXIC PAUL !! allegedly his dyslexia is specifically mapbased. also shoutout to that one show where emma said she’d never take advice from a man in a suit and he says “oh. but i like wearing suits. :(“
paul tries to shield bill and emma during show me your hands when the police are chasing them
he takes sam’s gun, kinda looks around for a sec, tries to give it to bill (who refuses it), then gives it to ted who apparently throws it in the trash LMAO
he stims pretty consistently throughout the entire show
not paul but iván’s hidgens wipes his hand from the goo off on sam’s arm and it made me giggle
paul looks DISGUSTED when hidgens grabs his shoulder
he says “did your sister smoke a lot of pot?” so quietly it’s really cute i’m ngl
he squares up to fight with sam (he does it really stupidly i might add) and then immediately gets punched in the face
paul looks incredibly dazed (moreso than emma) when their heads are smashed together, he’s almost limp in charlotte’s arms
something me & a few others noticed: when charlotte and sam puppet emma and paul to do the little arm motions during ju&d, emma has a closed fist but paul actually makes the correct hand gestures that go along with the dance (yk. the pointing and stuff). here’s how the half infected paul show loop theory can still win
he and emma and he and bill have so many more touchy cute together moments in the reprise in general; it makes me super happy
paul and emma and ted ALL chime in with bill’s rendition of the circle of life, rather spiritedly, and when they’re finishing he makes a circle with his arms as if to demonstrate. what’s his issue
he sounds a lot more angry? or maybe it’s stubbornness or something when he says “i will never be in a FUCKING musical”
there’s like a growl in paul’s voice when he says “i’m not gonna let you die”
his voice is so shaky it’s barely even there when he says “bill..?” like he can’t believe bill’s dead in his arms oh my god
he smoothes out bill’s shirt and tie after he’s dead and hesitates to get up from next to him even when the infected teens are approaching
the whiny ass pathetic “what the fuuck :(“ he does when he’s lying on the floor after not your seed
he also covers his ears when the teens are harmonizing. mind you he didn’t think at this point that it spread through hearing infected so he was completely just doing this bc they were loud
he’s very emphatic while he’s explaining “he wanted to be Choked By His Wife. WHIIILE he Jerked Off.”
before paul even sings his first note he looks dazed, swaying to the music. you can see that he can hear it much more pronounced in west end
his body relaxes and you can visibly see his shoulders slump. when nora grabs him and moves him, he sort of? accepts it?? he looks sort of dead/lifeless when he’s swaying- then he recoils straight after
he says “no..” so small and sadly when he starts dancing oh my god i’m gonna be sick
i’m too insane to put into words how i feel about let it out and how jon acts out paul losing autonomy of his body, but the way he moves and the way he’s so shaken after every dance section is so fucking cool and creepy i feel crazy
paul is VERY VERY puppet coded in reprised. most of his dance movements in let it out are extremely puppety (that’s like the only way i can describe it) and it looks like the hive is puppeting him multiple times. he jerks his arms around loads too, like he’s being puppeteered around
when hidgens is singing he backs paul back up against the meteor where he’d be breathing in the most spores
a couple times during let it out he looks at his hands and he looks horrified it is sickening
during his sort of soliloquy (i say soliloquy because everyone else on the stage is dead and he’s technically talking to the audience) he looks like he’s crying, or about to cry, but he can’t properly sob, because he has to be singing. he looks fucking miserable
paul’s more hunched over and stalking her through the ensemble after the ‘plant my seed’ line it’s properly terrifying kinda like he’s hunting her down
before i forget!!! cool thing we heard last night at the sinners Q&A: MBJ decided to wear different sized shoes while playing smoke and stack. for smoke he wore a size too large, the explanation being that when you're wearing shoes that are too big, you're less likely to want to move around because of how uncomfortable and clunky it is. as a result, smoke as a character is very still and purposeful with his movements. and then for stack he wore a half size too small because it makes you constantly shift around on your feet trying to find a stance and a position that feels right and takes the pressure off your feet. that makes stack more fidgety and restless. so MBJ said that wearing the different shoes made it a lot easier to embody the twins because he was just reacting naturally to what his body was telling him, rather than overthinking his movements. just the coolest shit. such a neat acting choice. i love movies, man.
