Dancing with the enemy - 2
The next twenty minutes drag by slowly and you still haven't seen Nymos after the dance you two had and it worries you because that irritating man - and smelling good as hell - might ruin everything.
At that moment, you are on the balcony of the lounge, in the open air, surrounded by trees and, much further ahead, you can catch a glimpse of the vast sea at the mercy of the bright full moon.
"A beautiful woman like you shouldn't be alone"
Anthony is standing behind you. You turn around and his youthful appearance, despite him being just over forty-five, takes you a little by surprise. Both his hands are busy with two flutes of champagne bubbling in the thin glass. It could easily become a deadly weapon if cracked.
"Well, I guess I'm not now" In your best, most sensual tone you smile at him accepting the glass of champagne he holds out to you.
You look sideways at his security guards, who have stayed a considerable distance from the two of you.
"I still don't know your name," he asks without looking away from yours as he sips on expensive champagne.
"A sweet name for a sweet woman," he runs a hand down your bare arm and you bristle in disgust but keep a fake smile on your red-painted lips.
That man is almost twice your age.
The rest of the conversation is pure flirting so that you can win his sympathy and finally, have the confession you've been waiting for since the first moment of the night. And in the next few days, when you have his trust, he would say something about it and, without realizing it, incriminate himself. With some seduction and discretion, you would gain access to his room, where you would look for a weakness and some evidence. You've done this other times, it was all a matter of time.
"I'm flattered that among all these beautiful women, you've come to join me," you smile gently as if enjoying the feel of his hand on your arm.
"Oh, I just recognize when I see something of value,"
His eyes go straight to your generous cleavage. He doesn't even feel shy about keeping his eyes there under your gaze.
"Oh, of course... Anthony," you give your best genuine look. You move a little closer until only he is able to hear you. "Believe me, I really know how to make things worthwhile,"
He seems a little intoxicated on your French perfume, your closeness making him run a hand down your waist.
"Cheers!" you clink your glass to his lightly.
So you pull back a little, just slightly so you can take another sip of your sweet drink.
"I can take you through my liquor collection, and then you can show me if it's really worth it," the green eyes turn a little darker.
"Mr. Evans," Anthony's men approach and by the tense face of one of them tells you there's something wrong.
The man in the suit looks at you and places his hand on the gun at his waist, without moving it. You try not to look nervous and touch Anthony's arm. The look the man gives is the kind of look questioning if he can talk about the matter in front of you. Anthony shakes his head almost imperceptibly.
"It might not be safe for you here. The information they gave us is that an agent or something like that might be infiltrated" the man says it quietly, but you can hear it perfectly.
Your heart starts to beat a little faster. How did they have this information if only your own team knew about this operation? There are only two answers: either someone on your team leaked the information or that fucking Nymos is trying to screw you over. Whatever it is, you'll deal with it later.
Anthony doesn't seem too concerned though.
"I've got over twenty men spread out in this damn room not counting those outside. And you're telling me they can't handle just one agent?" he says sternly, causing his bodyguard to lower his head.
"It's not just an agent sir, it's Jake too." Anthony completely changes his face when he hears that name. His jaw tightens and he looks more tense, even a little nervous.
Jake? Interesting how Anthony completely changed his attitude towards that name, you think.
You smile at the thought, but fear of him ratting you out quickly creeps into your mind.
"Give me a second miss" Anthony kisses your hand and disappears with his men through the hall.
You wonder what Nymos is up to. What if this is just a scramble to get Anthony killed? No. You couldn't let that happen.
So when another man approaches you to dance, you just hand him your glass and leave with your eyes glued to Anthony's man. They pass through a bright corridor, with vases and chic paintings, making their way to one of the white hall doors.
You look around to see if anyone is approaching, but the hallway is empty and it doesn't look like guests are not allowed to walk around.
You catch a glimpse of the door opening and quickly back away. Fortunately the footsteps move away and you wait a few seconds before looking again.
So you approach the door those men came out of and put your ear to the door to try to hear what's going on, but of course the walls are thick and muffled for you to hear anything.
Your hand goes to the doorknob and you sigh in relief when you see that it's not locked. But before you can open it, you feel rigid, strong hands grab your arm.
"What are you doing here? This part is not for ladies," he snaps and you feel the tip of the gun press into your bare back.
"I got lost," you say trying to sound helpless.
"I was with Mr. Anthony Evans, he can tell you that-"
You can't complete your sentence because he easily turns you around and pushes you into the wall.
"Yeah, let's see what he thinks of a bitch spying on things," he growls, disengaging the safety on the gun.
The noise of his radio communicator distracts him for a moment and you take the chance to use your free hand to snatch the knife from your thigh holster, driving the sharp razor into his throat. The man takes his hand to his throat trying to contain the blood there. He points the gun at you, but he slowly falls without having the strength to shoot.
Quickly, you snatch the gun from his hand. At least it would be an advantage in your favor.
Without wasting any more time, you open the door just to find the best scene of your life.
He keeps a smile on his face, which you don't understand, after all, he's trapped in that room, with dozens of men ready to shoot him.
"Well, well, well, looks like I found a lot more than I'd like," you sneer as you approach him.
"So you're the one who asked those men to tie me up? Look, I'm not into being submissive," he licks his lips.
"Not if you were the last man in the world, Nymos," you snarl at him. "But it's good to see you in your place, tied up like a dog,"
You sit on his lap, and press the gun to his neck. The white skin in contrast to the gun's black barrel is something you like. It's so good for you to see him like this, helpless.
"You know I could kill you right now, don't you?"
"I have to admit I would be kind of honored to die at the hands of such a beautiful woman. You know, those men aren't my type," he approaches smiling without taking his blue gaze from yours.
You unlock the safety lock, as if to warn him to stop immediately.
"Okay, princess. I get it,"
"Who hired you?" you seriously ask. "Who has an interest in Anthony's death? It can only be someone Anthony can hand over, so he wants to shut him up,"
"I don't usually hand over my clients, there's a lot of trust involved in that." he says sarcastically.
"You mean that there's definitely a lot of money in this," you roll your eyes. "What's your price, Nymos?"
"I don't cooperate with the police. You're trying to catch a mobster, but he's not that different. His corruption is as dirty as yours,"
He wasn't sarcastic this time. In fact, you think there's a bit of spite and anger in your voice.
"We protect our country," you say.
"And who protects them from you?" he leaves you speechless. "What happened? The kitten lost her tongue?"
You aim the gun at his temples now.
"Shut up, Nymos. Or I'll blow your brains out right now. It would make a nice painting on the wall,"
You then change the cards. It would be more interesting to know who wants Anthony's head. You didn't even need his information now. Nymos was enough.
You get up and take your razor with a few traces of blood and cut the ropes that bind Nymos' feet. He looks at you blankly.
He gets up and you bring the knife to his neck.
"If you try anything, I won't mind slitting your throat and leaving you for dead,"
So without wasting any more time, you push him away while holding the sharp knot of the bindings in his hands. Luckily it's firm enough that he can let go. Then suddenly the door opens, revealing two of Anthony's henchmen standing there. They look at your hand with the gun and Nymos standing and without a second thought, his men fire at you. You and Nymos duck, causing the shot to hit the glass window, shattering it into a thousand pieces.
You throw yourself beside the bed and don't shy away from aiming the gun at the men's heads. Nymos takes the cue to go to the window and pick up a piece of glass from the floor.
One of the men targets Nymos and you shoot him in the head first.
You've managed to eliminate the two men and when you look at Nymos, he's already managed to cut the ropes that bound him.
"You son of a bitch-," you aim the gun at him towards his legs, right where you know it won't be fatal.
It would only be a glancing shot, but when you fire, Nymos dodges, grabbing one of the fallen men's guns and disappearing down the hall. You drop the gun without bullets, get up and waste no time running after him.
You follow him into the ballroom, where he manages to blend in with the crowd.
You see Anthony with other guests and his bodyguards. Then you approach, and his men seem alarmed by your presence.
Then the hall lights suddenly go out and you reach into the holster strapped to your thigh with your knife. Your field of vision is limited and the murmurs in the hall grow louder. You hear the quick footsteps of Anthony's security guards getting closer.
The shrill sound of a bullet slicing through the air fills the room. The lights come up, revealing Anthony bleeding from the chest. And then one more time, and again and again.
Then the screaming and running around starts.
One part of Anthony's men escort him while the other part prepares in attack position, with guns aimed everywhere.
You move your legs as fast as you can looking sideways. People are running and more men are coming after you, there are dozens of them and you are not properly armed for this attack so you join the crowd. So in the middle of the rush, you can see him.
You see the glimmer of a smile on his face before he tries to join the crowd and leave the room.
You cannot let this opportunity pass you by. Anthony's men are gone with him, but you can still get this son of a bitch called Nymos.
"That woman! She was with him," one of the men says loud enough for the others to hear. Just his word is enough to have eyes and guns pointed your way.
Then more shots ring out in front of you and you realize it's not you Nymos is running from, but the dozen armed men behind him and you.
Nymos veers around the back and you follow, running as fast as you can in your heels down the hall. Shots ring out behind you, shattering the vases and you fall as a shot rips through your thigh.
The man approaches and aims the gun directly at his head. Before you can try to pull out your knife to at least wound him in the leg, the man falls with a shot in the forehead.
You look back to see Nymos staring at the wound in your leg. It doesn't look deep, but it sure would make you have trouble walking. Nymos approaches and then you quickly grab the gun from the man lying beside you and point it at him.
"If you want to stay around to be killed, that's fine with me. His men would love to put a bullet in an agent's head," he says gruffly.
"I don't need your help," you growl placing your finger firmly on the trigger.
Then you hear more footsteps approaching.
"Your choice, princess," he says sarcastically.
The truth is, you wouldn't stand a chance being hurt and with just one low-loading gun against all of Anthony's men. So, it's either accept the help of the tall man in front of you, or die.
Reluctantly, you lower your gun and Nymos approaches, hauling you in half carelessly as the steps are much higher. All you see is walls and walls, not knowing where you're going.
"Do you even know where the exit is?"
He quickly pulls you by the arm, and you try to keep up as you can since your wound burns and makes it impossible for you to run at the moment.
"What kind of professional would I be if I didn't study the place?" he scoffs.
Then the hall comes to an end where there is a window from the second floor that leads towards trees and more trees.
Nymos manages to jump because it's not that tall, and then you climb over the window frame and clumsily try to climb down, being caught by his hands.
More men appear around the place and you enter the dark forest, being followed by them.
You reload your gun as you shed your high heels, dropping them along the way.
"I shouldn't care about your life," Nymos says hiding behind a tree and wasting no time he pulls out a gun and fires back at the men. "But I'm starting and it's becoming an inconvenience"
The only thing you can hear is the gunshots and the crunch of Nymos's boots running. You two don't know exactly where to go, you just walked away from the gunfire and the men shooting at you.
"Damn it, when this is over you'll be a dead man Nymos!" You growl.
He doesn't answer you and annoys you even more.
"End of the line for us."
"What the fuck do you mean by that?" You growl.
It's a cliff, the rough sea below gives you the chills and you try not to lose your cool as the gunshots get closer and closer. Nymos looks at you and doesn't need to speak to give away what he's thinking.
You sigh and look pensively at the almost meters high that separates you from the sea. You can die anyway.
"I hope you can swim princess. Because we're going to jump."
"I will not run away with you, we are not Nymos partners!"
"Okay, good luck trying to kill twenty gunmen wanting my head for killing their boss and yours for being an undercover agent. Maybe they even think you're my partner, but it's not that important" he says if approaching the cliff and shaking off the bow tie and black boots looking down.
You hear the shots approaching and you look at him in anguish. There's a considerably terrifying height and the chance that you'll survive isn't very exciting.
You don't have time to think about denying it because as the first shot slices through the air, Nymos wraps his arms around you and launches himself with you.
The seconds in the air are fast and the next impact you feel is the cold water burning against some part of your body, you cannot discern where exactly it is because the water invades your senses and, even being trained for occasions like this, you can't help but open your mouth for air.
Your hands try to grab onto something and you feel like lead weights are in each of your feet, pulling you down and to the bottom of the sea. You open your eyes and you can see nothing but blurry darkness and you feel your eyes sting from the salty sea water.
Nightmares and your worst fear — the sea — are happening right now. Old memories invade your mind and you can't shake them. Just when you think you can't try to get back to the surface anymore, a pair of hands reach for yours.
They pull you up and you gasp for air and cough, in a desperate mess of trying to catch the breath you've been losing.
You cling to Nymos's body, gasping for breath. The waves seem to calm down, but you actually felt safer because you have a pair of hands to hold you in that dark sea.
The henchmen didn't even bother to check if you two were alive, because the height was enough to kill you.
It took a few hours to swim until they reached the shore. You didn't even feel your legs and arms when you touched the wet sand. You lay down right there, catching your breath and the tiredness of having used your limbs to get there.
"I thought you could swim, isn't that the minimum required for an agent?" Nymos tries to say between short breaths. He's just as tired as you are.
"I can swim, it's just that the sea is not one of my favorite places,"
You wring the water out of your hair and fall backward onto the sand. Your legs ache and your arms don't seem to want to move. Hours of swimming took a lot out of you.
"And why did it take you so long to get back to the surface?"
"Why do you care?" you say sharp as a knife.
"I'm just amazed that an agent can't swim," it's just unbelievable that even when he's tired he can be sarcastic and irritating.
You ignore him and pull the knife from the holster on your thigh. So you pull your dress up and groan in pain as the wind hits your wound. It was only a graze, but the seawater made you sting like hell and you probably got an infection.
"I'll help you with that," You're too tired to deny it and just nod.
"No inconvenient touches, Nymos" you say harshly when you feel his eyes get a little lost in the slit of your ruined and wet dress.
"I'm going to need the knife," he says and holds out his hand. You quickly back away, eyeing him suspiciously. "If I wanted you dead, I wouldn't have helped you there, would I?" he says a little offended.
He could have left you behind, but he didn't. The question is: why did he do that?
You hand him the knife and Nymos rips off a piece of his own shirt. You accidentally look at the defined abs. Damn, he looks really strong. And hot as hell.
He tightens the piece of cloth around your thigh and you almost whimper, still feeling the sea salt burn against your wound. Your newest scar - among so many others.
Then he hands the knife back to you and throws himself in the sand. You look around. There are only trees and the vast sea. It looks like you're safe for the moment.
"Trying to leave here during the night is not a good idea, it's possible to get lost easily in these woods," he says with his eyes closed.
"And what do you expect me to do? Spend the night here? With you?"
"Lots of women would love to spend a night here with me," he scoffs.
"They must all be crazy then," you say.
"Oh yeah?" he sits down to face you. It's dark, but you can still see his smile gracing his damn handsome face.
Then before you can even respond, he pounces on you. His tall, strong body easily holds you under his weight without hurting you.
"Are you crazy?" you scream trying to get him away from you.
"You talk too much, princess. Does your mouth do more than that?"
"Yeah, it'll laugh when it sees you dead, you idiot-" he cuts you off with a kiss.
His hot tongue doesn't ask for permission but you gladly receive it. His icy body on top of yours gives you goosebumps and makes you vibrate with the sensation. You even open your legs a little for him to fit in there.
"I know you've wanted to do this all fucking night," he pulls back a little but remains with his body over yours.
You were going to protest, but he again falls on your lips until dawn.
You woke up to cold water touching your feet. Looking sideways through the sun with difficulty, there was nothing but the holster.
Then you get up and see a stick in the sand. The words make you clench your fists. The choppy waters try to erase but the message is still visible.
"𝐼𝑡 𝑤𝑎𝑠 𝑓𝑢𝑛 𝑀𝐶, 𝑏𝑢𝑡 𝑦𝑜𝑢'𝑟𝑒 𝑠𝑡𝑖𝑙𝑙 𝑎𝑛 𝑎𝑔𝑒𝑛𝑡. :)"
And then you remember the night with Nymos, the night with your enemy.
