here are my shelves + organisation system!!

red = fantasy/sci-fi (series on shelf 1, standalones/ones where I only own one from the series on shelf 2)

orange = plays

yellow = poetry

green = short story collections

cyan = general/literary fiction

blue = mystery/thriller

pink = romance

purple = non-fiction (subdivided into literary criticism/books about the arts — informative nf e.g. social/historical/science — personal nf e.g. memoirs, biographies, essays — misc nf)

these shelves are more straightforward: 1 = young adult, 2 = classics, 3 = historical fiction :)

#for the most part they're organised by author within each genre section #but as demonstrated it's also about fitting them in wherever possible so sometimes size takes precedent over alphabet #i feel like this should be a tag game. please start sharing your shelves (and how they're organised) and tagging me in it #this is like what's in my bag content to me #talking

have no idea if the way this is worded makes sense lol but examples: changing colour to color, changing speech within ‘’ to “”, changing the word rubbish to trash/garbage, etc. (or the reverse)

#oh damn i'm clearly in the minority here #the american spellings just look wrong to me and it never feels significant to the story that it should be kept american #i did once read a japanese book clearly translated into american english and it threw me when they used farenheit #because that's obviously not what a japanese in japan is using #so not changes to that extent #but color just looks too ugly for me i don't like it
