Instagram Series: Public Lands
“There have been recent attempts to partition portions of our national public lands off to states for the probable and eventual economic ventures of resource extraction. It is one of many attempts and more are to come.
This series of archival images from both national and state managed public lands is not to assert that any of these places are in danger or to comment on state management intentions.
It is an attempt to stand in solidarity with those who believe in preserving and honoring our lands and wildlife, who believe the American people should have access to these lands. The ecosystem will not return quickly if we are to degrade them for use in our short-sighted economic goals.
Learn more by reading a variety of outlets from advocacy groups and media outlets. Learn more by spending time at your favorite or closest public land.”

The Sunken Road (a.k.a ‘Bloody Lane’) Antietam Battlefield, Sharpsburg, Maryland April 10th, 2016
---
The Sunken Road was a dirt farm lane which was used primarily by farmers to bypass Sharpsburg. On September 17, 1862, from 9:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. the site witnessed the deaths of 5,600 soldiers (Union 3,000, Confederate 2,600) along the 800-yard road. It is the bloodiest single-day battle in American history, with a combined tally of 22,717 dead, wounded, or missing.
