A new 21.5 million dollar port is scheduled to open in Detroit next month, but is Great Lakes cruising a winning investment for the city?
Can't wait for the Downtown Hoedown!

NBC Nightly News ran a story about Detroit's 50,000 stray dogs. It's a sad sight to see these animals on their own, but thankfully some local residents are trying to help them out. http://t.co/xbIkUQz
Several buildings around Detroit's Grand Circus Park including the Broderick Tower and the Whitney Building are being redeveloped for commercial and residential use. Great news for two landmarks that have stood empty for years.Â
The Thunderdrome 2!
I am excited for the second ever Thunderdrome at Dorais Park in Detroit this weekend. If you are looking for a good time on Saturday, get out to the Velodrome!

The bittersweet decay of Detroit. This city used to be so beautiful and unique. It still is, in its own right, but itâs really sad to see all of the historic beauty go to waste.
This is a new post from my blog covering an event that took place last fall. I missed it in the news when it happend, but I thought it was still worth talking about. A sadly forgotten gem of Detroit that is happily finding new life these days. A great story!

One Swing at a Time
A new post on my blog about a great initiative being taken up to replace hundreds of missing swings from Detroit parks.  313: One Swing at a Time http://t.co/aXHfcym
Ann Arbor time lapse. AMAZING.
Why is an offer for a revolutionary rail system being ignored by Detroit city officials?

Foranâs Grand Trunk Pub, Detroit
âWe are moving forward by honoring the history of this building as The Grand Trunk Rail Roadâs ticket station. Grand Trunk Pub is one of Southeast Michiganâs finest drinking establishments. Grand Trunk is located in the heart of downtown Detroit, one block from Campus Martius and Hart Plaza. Come have a pint in what was once the Grand Trunk Railway Station. The original early 1900âs architecture and the beauty of the Grand Trunkâs 25 foot vaulted ceilings, brass chandeliers, exposed brick walls and hard wood floors.
Grand Trunk Pub has a varied menu of food and drinks to enjoy, including some of the great local products. Motor City Brewing Works beer, Avalon Bakery bread, meats and produce purchased at Eastern Market, and Faygo pop, are all on the menu. Grand Trunk Pub is the place to enjoy great food and spirits in a welcoming atmosphere.â (quote via website picture via me)
Detroit:The Future of Mass Transit?
A revolutionary new high speed rail project could find a home in Detroit if one company has their way. Check out my blog post on it:Â http://313detroitblog.blogspot.com/2011/04/detroit-future-of-mass-transit.html
Today is the grand opening of Hostel Detroit in North Corktown. Check it out if you get the chance! Here's my blog post on it:Â 313: Hostel Detroit http://t.co/XpWZ4zN
