ââ and then these two guys just started wailing on each other, it was insane,â Veronicaâs eyes were wide, arms splayed out beside herself as if that would somehow communicate how crazy the situation had really been. âAfter one of the other officers finally pulled them off each other, we found out the whole fight started over, get thisââ she paused, mostly for dramatic effect, âFucking superheroes. These two drunk idiots actually managed to get into a physical altercation over who would win in a fight; Iron Man or Batman.â Veronica immediately began to shake her head once more, still completely baffled by the situation. âWho gets into a fight over something that dumb?â
James gave an absent shrug, only partly listening as the blonde relayed the story. It was odd how he seemed to be targeted for these random conversations, yet here he was, again. âHumans are fickle and weird. They do stupid shit. You didnât know? What rock have you been living under,â he joked. âAt least those two fuckwits had the alcohol to blame, though.â
sonyamahajan:
âOne bottle of wine wouldnât give it all away, now would it?â Sonya asked with a friendly smile, her gaze lingering a little longer on his own than she would have liked. The brunette was a bit shy when it came to flirtations and wasnât ready to be exposed in that way to the male yet. At the answer of his wineryâs location and vineyards, the pianist looked off for a moment not focusing on anything in particular as she attempted to place the river valley. She ended up shaking her head, âNo, Iâve never been but it sounds beautiful, or at least Iâm imagining it to be.â Sonyaâs smile grew at the invitation, âReally? You mean that? This may sound weird but I donât think Iâve actually ridden a bike before. Iâd love to tour the vineyard and taste some wine though. What do you produce there?â
âAs your guest?â The brunette tried to clarify. âThat sounds a bit like a date. Is it a date?â She smiled and shyly had to pull her eyes away, her blush was for sure giving her away in the moment and there was only so much the pianist could take. Moving to the cabinet, Sonya pulled a couple of mugs from it and went to the stove to pour hot water into each and then place a tea bag into each. âI think youâll really like the taste of this. Itâs imported,â she told James as she let the tea steep. âWell, James, what do you suggest we make as a joint venture then? I quite like the idea of that. It sounds⊠fun,â she smiled, her dimples revealing themselves.Â
âYou have a point there. I guess I really donât have a valid reason for being the cheap bastard that I am. Hopefully that doesnât sway your opinion of me just yet,â he teased. James was actually quite a generous person, he was just selective about the way he chose to demonstrate his philanthropy and giving free wine to another grown ass man wasnât it. âIâm kind of proud of it yea, itâs quite nice. And what do you mean youâve never ridden a bike?â He wasnât intending to cast any judgment in his response, he was simply surprised.
âThen I guess this will be a learn as we go type tour then,â he said, noting the seemingly bashful moment which was oddly sort of a turn on. âWe cultivate several varieties but mainly a rose vine. Do you have a favorite?âJames paused with a smile as he rubbed at his bearded chin, just watching her, appraising the way she moved, the subtle body languages and cues she was giving off. She seemed to carry a sort of sweet grace about her, shy with a hint of mystery and intrigue behind her gaze. âThat depends on if youâre planning on actually saying yes?â he teased then let out of soft chuckle. After a beat he nodded. âYes, iâm asking for a date. Does that seem too forward of me?â he asked, her dimpled smile holding him a bit captive. âImported tea, huh? Teach me about that..what do we have here?â he asked, reaching for the box of tea bags, perusing the label, his gaze pulled back to her tall and slender frame as she went to reach for their mugs. âA joint venture it is then. Iâm game if you are.â
logansquinn:
Fair point, he thought, though decidedly ignored the follow-up insult uttered towards the end. He was often good at that, depending on the severity of the blow he would take to his ego. In this case, it barely scratched the surface. âI dunno, Iâm kinda curious to see where this goes, but also kinda terrified. Like, this one time, I was dating an M.E., and I was pretty sure that what I considered âtemperature playâ when she would rub ice all over me was actually just her trying to pretend I was a dead body. Thatâs kinda fucked, right?â
âYouâre not sounding very enthusiastic, there. Whatâs your plan B if this one doesnât work out. There must be other options? What are you using, one of those swipe left app things?âJames had never put much effort into meeting women, not that he had the best luck with women, but at least the ones heâd engaged with had all been somewhat sane. âTemperature play...yeah, Iâd say thatâs a little odd. And scary, yeah. Tell me again, where do you find these winners?â Lifting an incredulous eyebrow, James shook his head.
alissakavanaugh:
âIâtruly canât tell if that is a compliment or an insult and iâm honesty still fucked off about her to care.â Alissa replied, glancing back in time to see Susan vanish around the corner. Her attention now centered once more on the guy in front of her, his face was unfamiliar. âYeah, no. It wonât. She and the others who I see often usually donât hold such an impact. Just caught me off guard that she spotted me and squawked like sheâd met a damn bond villain. Itâd have been more flattering if scaring her off was the goal.â
His shoulders rolled into a shrug, his expression most likely giving off the sentiment she had so eloquently expressed verbally, about having zero fucks to give about this scenario that seemed to refuse to end. âNot an insult, just an observation, maâam.â His gaze distractedly wandered toward the third party as they vanished, seemingly not giving a shit either about whatever she seemed to beg going on about either. âYea, I donât know, I guess? Maybe? Sometimes you gotta let people live, let shit go. In fact that applies pretty much all the time,â he commented, shoving his hand in his pocket, rooting around for his keys, waiting for the light to change. Â
sonyamahajan:
âAnd what way is your lifestyle set up?â Sonya asked curiously, understanding he was making a playful joke and still wanted to know what was behind it. She had caught his gaze lifting and smiled immediately, a pink dusting her cheeks as a result of his wandering eyes. âYou look fine to me,â she returned, taking in his attire when she turned fully to see him once in the kitchen. âWhere is your vineyard?â The pianist looked down at his jeans then his hands â she always looked at peopleâs hands â and wondered what it was like to work in the way he did. What the kind of labor was like? âYou should bring over a bottle some time so I can try it,â the brunette suggested. âI can cook dinner for you as some sort of payback or exchange,â she offered.
Cheeks indented to give away her dimpled smile at his joke, to which Sonya soon laughed over. âIâve never had anyone want to claim me on their taxes before, or offer a hand in marriage before an introduction of names,â she attempted to tease back, though given her past her humor wasnât up to par with the majority. The pianist was worldly yet sheltered, her youth had been spent in a form of bondage. She took his hand, felt the size and strength, and smiled, âSonya Mahajan. Itâs nice to meet you as well, James. Third timeâs a charm with the mail, hm? How do you like your tea? If not tea I have other beverages, I suppose I canât offer you wineâŠâ
âJust meaning with some hard work and sacrifices I manage to live fairly comfortably and I like it that way. Iâm not in a huge hurry to give away the farm,â he explained. He nodded and grinned at what he would take as a compliment, immediately intrigued by the womanâs inquisitive nature. James had an unabashed, appreciative eye beautiful women and judging from the several shades of red her features had turned, he assumed heâd been caught red handed in the act. He wondered if sheâd take offense and throw him out his ass if he were to further relay his thoughts on her appearance. The universe was probably working in his favor, stopping him from making an ass of himself when she instead posed a question of her own. âItâs out near Delaware river valley. Are you familiar? If not you should come out sometime, take a bike tour, taste some wine, experience the whole deal,â he paused and chuckled.Â
Shaking his head, he added, âDamn, Iâm really awful at this. I suppose I could do a better job of being specific about my intent here. Iâm actually asking you to come as my guest. I would love to show you around, personally.â Holding her brown eyed gaze for a lingering moment, he gave some thought to offer dinner in exchange for brining her wine. âDinner sounds like a plan but only if you allow me to prepare something with you. A joint venture of sorts,â he suggested.âSonya, charmed indeed,â he said. âTeaâs fine, or water. Whatever is convenient, donât want you to go out of your way.Â
âHave you ever had someone turn around and cross an entire street to avoid running in to you? Because what the fuck.â Alissa began, gesturing in mild disbelief as a woman walked down the road in the opposite direction. âI mean its understandable, I served that lady eight drinks last night and then listened to her ramble about her sex life and issues. But to run like iâm the big bad wolf?â Sheâd practically squawked at the sight of her, even she couldnât help but laugh at the absurdity. âLike chill the fuck out Susan, iâm not gonna tell anyone you buy blow behind Whole Foods and get your rocks off to the cast of Vanderpump Rules instead of your own god damn husband.â
James stared blankly at the brunette thinking it was just destined to be one of those days. One random occurrence after the next, some more migraine inducing than others. He couldn't help but give pause to the fact that had he stopped for gas before grabbing his coffee the way he had intended, he would have missed this shit show of an encounter entirely, yet here he was, standing outside Starbucks in the midst of someone else's drama. "I'm surprised she didn't stay for more conversation cause you're animated as hell, goddamn," he stated, not meaning to say as much out loud. "But to answer your question, people generally don't run from me." Or just don't have an opportunity to run. "You gonna let it ruin your day what?"
Theo took another drink from the bottle of beer he had ordered as someone put Britney Spearâs âToxicâ on the jukebox for what seemed like the millionth time. âAre you fuckinâ kidding me, again?â he muttered more to himself then to the person beside him. His head was beginning to pound and he could feel the frustration build up in him, starting at him in the bottom of his chest. He wouldnât loose his grip in public though, heâd made a promise to himself and to his mother. They wanted a new start here and started a fight or smashing the jukebox wouldnât be the greatest first impression. âIf I give you some money can you go over there and change the damn song? If I do I might put my fist through something.âÂ
It had been a long and unfortunate day for business and James really should have dragged his tired, highly irritable ass home, but the urge to get shit faced was way too strong. âHow bout I pay you double to go ask somebody else,â he grumbled, regretting settling in the first seat he saw. The music wasnât the draw to these dive ass bars, and neither was the company it seemed. With a persistent crease down the center of his forehead, he motioned for the bartender and ordered himself a double shot of Jameson, then turned his attention back toward the other male occupying the space next to him. âDoubt itâs worth the hassle, but go for it. Do what ya gotta do, I suppose,â he said, gruffly, curling his fingers around the tumbler of amber liquid before tossing it back and ordering another.Â
sonyamahajan:
âHave you been gifting him bottles of your wine?â Sonya asked, turning her head catch a glimpse of her neighborâs reaction and pulling her attention away from her notes in hand. She knew that much about the mysterious man sheâd only had a few exchanges with, that he had a vineyard. âI just put some water on for tea, you should come in and join me,â the pianist suggested and stepped back to invite him into her home. âWe can come up with the plan of what to do with the mailman and honestly, weâve been neighbors all this time, we should know each other better by now. Donât you think?â Turning away, she began leading the way towards the her kitchen and called gently over her shoulder. âPlease close the door behind you. Wouldnât want the cat to get out.â
"You would think, except with the way my lifestyle is set up, I don't give away free sh-, wine to other men," he joked, moving inside when invited, closing the door, though he didn't see the cat out in the open. Damned thing must have sensed his skittish aversion. A slight grin pulling at his lips, he caught himself watching the sway of her hips as she moved inside her home. Tall and slender, she moved with grace and he could just tell she was all class. He pulled his glance to meet her own. He wasn't much of a tea drinker but he wasn't about to say no to finally being invited inside. "You'll have to forgive my appearance, just getting off work. Inventory day and all," he stated, modestly given he was dressed tastefully, casual, but tasteful.
Looking around her abode, he took the first seat he saw once they entered the kitchen, draping his jacket around the back of the chair. "I don't know what to say about the mailman but if he keeps bringing me your bills and such I might have to claim you on my taxes. We should just elope," he teased. "Definitely long over due. I'm James by the way..pleasure to meet you formally," he said and extended a hand.
"So, I'm starting to wonder if the mailman is hitting the grapes a little too hard," he joked, shifted the misplaced pile of mail from one hand to the other. "What is it, like the third time this has happened?" He questioned rhetorically as he waited to see if he'd be invited in this time, technically holding her mail hostage. His attempt at getting past her front door, metaphorically speaking as much as anything else, was juvenile at best. Yet ever since the first visit to return her mail, he found his neighbor way too intriguing to not try, despite not knowing a single thing about her. @sonyamahajan
âTell me itâs not just me.â He shifted in his seat, turning to the other. âIf anyone asked for pictures of your feet, right in the middle of sexting, you would be weirded out, too, right?â he said, the phone in his hand clear evidence of what he was referring to.
James lifted an eyebrow in consideration of his response as he perused the text. Had he somehow fell into a time warp and landed in a junior high locker room? He couldn't help but chuckle. "I can honestly say there are things that creep me out more than my own feet? But hell, there's always the option to block and keep it moving. Do opportunities to sext not often come to you or what?"
Hi everyone! Iâm JP and this is James, your resident retired federal agent and viticulturist (lmao he owns a vineyard and is serious about his damn grapes.) Anywho, Iâm always down to plot and connect so feel free to reach out :)
