Obviously, being the male lead in a studio film, whether or not it’s a franchise, is a terrifying prospect. It comes with responsibility, it comes with some negativity, it comes with opening your life up to people. That’s part of it, but that’s what I’ve been striving to do because that’s what I want to do. I want to push myself; eight years ago, all I wanted to be was in the chorus line of a musical on stage in the West End – and I still feel like that, but the fact that I’m doing this now is bizarre to me. People can hate on you for doing what it is that makes you happy, but ultimately it has to belong to you. It shouldn’t matter what anyone else thinks. Life is not easy. The road to happiness is not a path well trotted. You have to find your own path to enlightenment.
