Somehow during tonight’s group rewatch we started writing a haiku for the Phrack and have decided to call them Phracku. Here is my contribution. I expect afterdinnerminx​ and jackphryne4eva​ and jeneenp​ to share theirs as well. If anyone thinks of a better name for them, feel free to shout! 

His fingers found her skin. Soft. Supple. Silk over Creamy flesh. He sighed

Into her neck. Lips and teeth, mouths full of need and desire won out.

She gasped his name. Jack. The one man’s name that held her after all this time. 

He stared into her eyes. Phryne. Witch. Temptress. He lost himself in her.

Nathan Page  - Cyclist

kalerider and I did our best to find photographs of Nathan at these championships. I wrote to The Australian Sports Commission who said that their image archive did date back to the early 1980s but the Cycling archives during 1988 and 89 were lacking and so they had no images of Nathan.

Nor did Cycling News - too early for them

He rode alongside Lance Armstrong in Europe and attended the Australian Institute of Sport with Stuart O'Grady, but Page says he gave up his dreams at 19 because he was one of only a few cyclists on the European tour determined to stay clean. “It was an era that was plagued by drugs and it was very hard to see your way through to a long career… but because I stayed clean, you could beat them some of the time, but not all of the time” says Page, now 40. ’‘I think Australia was really pretty good, particularly the Institute of Sport. You had a buffer … but once you moved to Europe it was a different thing altogether. The road circuit was a pretty dirty world and it’s only just coming out of it now.”

Page, who broke a junior world record on the cycling track, says: “In the end I just remember being in Moscow, just being in tears, just thinking, ‘I know I’m that fast, the amount of work that’s gone in, I’m so close, but these guys are on massive amounts of steroids and EPO and you simply can’t compete.“

“FYI, the guy in the all black kit at the start of the video is Nathan Page who has been “cameoing” for us. He was “Ray Chuck” in the second series of Underbelly and has just finished filming the latest series “Squizzy”. Can ride a bike and just manages to avoid all the carnage”

This is a very short glimpse of the rear view of Nathan on a bike but watch how he turns back after the crash to check that everyone is OK.

Oh man. This scene. Phryne’s expression as she strokes his lapel is so intense…like she’s remembering how Concetta stroked that lapel the previous night, like she’s thinking about her own feelings..and Jack seems so surprised and moved.

Aaaah, this moment. I love it because even though things are so strained between them at this point, they both need to take a moment out from it all to say, effectively, “I care about you. I want you to he safe.” But there’s an extra layer of meaning here for Jack too - we’ve seen that Jack worries a great deal about Phryne coming to harm (see: Blood at the Wheel), but here he sees finally that Phryne worries just as much about him - what they do is dangerous - but she doesn’t try to stop him doing what he needs to do. And likewise, Jack can’t stop Phryne from being who she is either. It’s such a small moment, and yet so huge.

…and Phryne knows that Jack worries about her but here she doesn’t shout him down she actually accepts and respects his concern and tells him she’ll be careful. Lovely moment between them both.

I thought the “you be careful too” that Phryne says to Jack was more about his heart, and him being hurt by Concetta.  She knows he lives by his emotions and feelings (so.many.feelings) and his “wounds” so to speak, are from emotional trauma.  She is more guarded with hers, so in her case the physical danger is what puts her in harms way, whereas for Jack it is being hurt emotionally.  But maybe I’m just high on the phrack and reading too much into it?

I put something similar in my tags. She thinks she’s losing him and she’s asking him to be careful because his heart is at risk. I think its a sign to him, that she cares for him and I think that makes him hope that they might have a future after all. His little nod I think, shows he understands what she means perfectly.
