Jesus Christ this guy has got to go. I know that he’s been rapping about rape and violence against women for years. I know Iggy Azalea has issues with cultural appropriation. But this shit has got to stop! 

Shortly after he released a track saying he’d like to “punch Lana Del Rey right in the face twice” — Del Rey has yet to respond — Iggy Azalea became the rapper’s latest target on his song “Vegas,” on which he raps “If I let you run alongside the Humvee. Unless you’re Nicki [Minaj], grab you by the wrist, let’s ski. So what’s it gon’ be? Put that s**t away Iggy. You don’t wanna blow that rape whistle on me. Scream! I love it. ‘Fore I get lost with the gettin’ off.”

Roman Ondak began with just a bare white canvas of walls. He was the first one to measure himself against the wall. The exhibit was then open to others who were also encouraged to add a piece of themselves to the artwork. He entitled it Measuring the Universe and soon the walls were covered in names of people with different heights and stories. An estimated 90,000 people have written their names to help contribute to the piece of growing and living art.

“I think it really does begin to make you think about ideas of space in the universal and the infinite in a really interesting way but it is also very, very personal and this sense of this kind of white void when the exhibition opened being slowly built by all of these points, these names and it is almost like a kind of constellation of stars.”

The expectation that women indulge random men’s desire for socialization and affirmation may be slightly less gross than the expectation that women indulge random men’s desire to spew sexual profanity at them, but it stems from the same basic premise—namely, that women must be willing to fulfill men’s desires at all times, whether it’s in the bedroom, in the workplace, in the subway, or on the street. Over and over again we are told that men just want to “brighten” our day or make us “feel good.” But this was never about women’s feelings. If it were, then the moment mass numbers of women started speaking out about street harassment, these men would collectively go, “Oh, oops, I guess that didn’t make you feel so good.” Instead, they insist over and over again that we actually do like it or that we’re actually too sensitive or that we would like it if only the guys were hotter or that feminism has ruined us. It was never about how it makes women feel. It was always about how it makes men feel.

Do you have any advice for those who would like to pursue a career in the publishing industry?

Best piece of advice: Go where the jobs are. In the US, that’s New York, for the most part, although there are certainly smaller publishers and university presses scattered throughout the country.

Second best piece of advice: Know what’s going on in the business. Subscribe to newsletters (Publishers Lunch is a great place to start), visit trade publication websites, follow publishers on social (especially that). Know what they’re publishing. The best way to make people sit up and take notice in an interview is to actually have read and be able to speak about several titles on their current list, not just the huge blockbuster book everybody has read. 

Third best piece of advice: Get some experience. This could mean anything from an internship at a huge New York publisher to an after school job at an independent bookstore. For example, my pre-Penguin experience included being both Fiction Editor and Associate Editor at my university lit mag, an internship at a small Chicago publishing house, an internship at a literary agency, a job as an Editorial Assistant at a textbook publisher, and a job at a book marketing firm doing digital publicity and social media management. That’s a lot of different stuff! I really regret never having worked as a bookseller, though.
