Does Michael Vick deserve to be honored? Seems like that’s the topic everyone has been talking about lately. Some do think he deserves to be honored and some, of course, do not. I do not know much about Vick other than he is labeled an amazing football player who has won countless awards. He is a husband. He is a dad, a son, a brother, and of course, we all know about the horrific operation that took place in his Virginia home back in 2007. I do not know much about his case other than the basics and other than countless animals were either hurt or murdered, but that is not what I care to write about. What took place in his home was wrong, yes. I agree 100% but what I also see is what a lot of us do to each other. I think the matter of someone choosing to honor Michael Vick despite his past only reveals the hate that resides in many of our hearts. This hate did not appear when someone said, “I think we should honor Michael Vick this year.” The hate was already there. Vick’s honorary announcement only triggered it and brought it into the light. You can try to justify it by saying what he did was horrible and no one like that deserves to be honored, or you can even try to say it is one thing to forgive someone but to honor them is another thing and it should not be done, and these are some of the things people have said to justify starting a petition to take away his moment, but that does not justify the hate in your heart.
