So I originally thought of this with Ancano in mind (because boi loves to act snobby until he realizes he could easily lose his darling), but this could really apply to any immortal(ish) yandere with a mortal darling. "So... what's your plan after this?" "What do you mean, dear mage?" "Well... don't your kind live for thousands of years? I'm human, Ancano. One day you'll wake up and I won't be next to you anymore." (Couldn't think of anything after this. Hopefully it's at least decent 😅)
“Ancano, I have a question for you” you say calmly, flipping through a spell tome casually. The flipping of his own book stills, and he turns to face you half way, fingers clenched on one corner to keep his place.
“Well? Go on then. Ask. You know I hate wasting time “ he snips, but it didn’t hold much venom. Well not the amount he would use on someone else anyway.
“What will you do when all of this is over?” You asked with more caution, turning your body to fully face the elf “You know, when my time comes”. Ancano scrunches his nose in a look of anger and disgust, slamming his book shut as he stomps closer to you.
“What on earth are you on about? Who put those thoughts in your head?” He hissed, knowing he was acting erratic and damn near childish. He hated the thought of losing you, of waking up one day and seeing that he outlived the only person he ever loved.
It pains him. And when he’s hurt he turns to anger rather than tears.
“Ancano, you know I have a much lesser lifespan. These spells and enchantments only delay the inevitable”. You keep your voice low, as calmly as you could while taking his hand, noticing it’s trembling. “I just want you to have a plan so you won’t be left alone in agony when that day comes”.
Ancano yanks you closer, glaring at you while his fingers clasped around your hand “No, no those spells are just made by weaker mages. They aren’t me, they don’t hold the power I do!” He grits out, fighting back the tremble in his lips as you just give him a sad, knowing look.
You both know that he doesn’t have the ability to keep you alive any longer than the other potions and spells. He presses his forehead against yours, slamming his eyes shut as he holds your hand, lips gently kissing your knuckles as his voice wavers. “I don’t want to wake up without you...I wouldn’t be able to go on”.
The thought of losing you, calling your name and no one answering, having only his footsteps echo in the home you two have come to love, it was tearing him apart and he couldn’t stop his true emotion from showing. He slams his eyes shut again, tears beginning to slip down in a stream down the curve of his cheeks, dripping to his neck as he shudders out breaths and tries to form words.
You’ve never seen Ancano show such vulnerability. He’s more stoic and quiet, but this? This is truly something that twists his heart. Gingerly, you wipe up the small trail of tears running down his cheeks, kissing him softly as your hands cup his face. “Dearest...deep breaths now. I didn’t think you’d be so upset, I’m sorry “. He nuzzles into your hand, smearing some of the tears as he does so.
“To think I’d be brought to tears by you” he half jokes, trying to get back into his usual snarky self. “I...I don’t know what I would do without you. I think I’d be lost for the rest of my life. So, I want you to live as long as I do”.
“Ancano-“ you begin with a slight scolding tone “-My kind can’t live as long as you”. He shushes you with a soft kiss, murmuring against your lips while looking into your eyes “Not if I have anything to do with it”.
