I’ve started including subtle, melancholy introspections in my ebay listings, in the hope anonymous charitable buyers will take pity and pay over the odds for my second-hand paperbacks.
Strange now to think of you, gone without corsets & eyes, while I walk on the sunny pavement of Greenwich Village.

Pointless.
My friend’s older brother is a Labour MP in our constituency. The other day on Pointless, the question for the Pointless trophy was “Current MPs whose surname begins with B,C or D” Turns out he was one of the Pointless answers. I’m not really sure how I’d feel about that. At first I thought it was quite an achievement, but in reality imagine being a Pointless answer, it’s a national televised reminder that you’re a nobody. Like, you’re in the public consciousness enough to be an answer, but evidentially no one gives a fuck about you. I'm going to add it to my bucket list.

Oh what an ordinary day Take out the garbage, masturbate
On the Wednesday night at Glastonbury I was sat in a camping chair on my own eating a cereal bar and a girl walked past and shouted "Hey, I heard you were a wild one, Ohhhhooo". Didn't know what to reply so I just toasted the cereal bar in her direction. Given the circumstances, I think it might have been the funniest jibe I've ever been on the end of.
I've been listening to The National on repeat for about 6 months and I don't think I'm going to recover.
Le Baiser (The Kiss) 1930, Man Ray
Bought a copy of Oblomov by Ivan Goncharov for 99p on ebay because it's been occupying my Goodreads recommendations for about 6 months. This was three weeks ago and the parcel just turned up today, it's been cello-taped back shut and someone's written "Delivered to wrong address" with a marker pen on the back. Someone's definitely opened it to see if it's worth keeping, found that it's a second hand paperback by an obscure Russian author and just thought, nah may as well let him have that. Thankful and insulted to equal degrees, yet powerless to do anything.
I am leading a quiet life
outside of Mike’s Place every day
watching the world walk by
in its curious shoes
Like praying mantis against the sky, metal arms outstretched
