He drank some of it before capping the bottle and setting it down. “Didn’t know you were in the alphabet mafia,” Jean commented leaning on the kitchen counter.

”I moved here to be closer to you. Who knows what kind of trouble you’ll get yourself in, and I received a transfer to prosecute terrorism cases, so it was a no-brainer.” Sitting down against a chair, he took another chug of his drink, listening. “You know I’ve always been sensitive. I know you live by your own creed and I’m happy you’re happy. I do support the LGBT community but I’m not... climbing up the same tree as you do, if that makes sense.”

Zane had not been expecting a knock on his door as he looked up from his book. He was enjoying his day off and wondered who could be knocking. He quickly got up and headed to the door just to see what was going on. Answering the door, Zane put on a smile. “Chocolate? Sure.”

”Great. I think a chocolate bar is two dollars. Don’t quote me.” Too exhausted to remember the full details. Jax only had a few of the chocolatey goodness to sell, then he’d be able to go home and relax. A few more houses, if he could stay alert until then. Home free.

“You have a grueling job that takes you away from your love too? We’re pulled thin as it is and considering that I’m studying and shadowing a detective because that’s what I’m striving to be it’s hard. But, to be able to spend more time with my lover I need that.”

“That’s not even scratching the tip of the iceberg. I’m usually the first one in the office and the last one to leave, around midnight. Ah, law enforcement, too? So if you’re striving to be a detective, I assume you’re already a cop? We’re in the same field at least. Prosecutor. I think my girlfriend is just on the edge of leaving me because of how hard I work.”

“Got another Gatorade in there?” Jean asked wiping his face with the bottom of his shirt ad stepping into the kitchen with his brother. “Got a question for ya,” Jean commented.

”Yep.” Grabbing another from the fridge, he tossed his brother the drink. Closing the fridge, he shifts himself to face the other. “What is it?” Twisting the cap off the bottle, he took a long drink of the Gatorade.

Another house. Five hours later. Jax should’ve been enjoying his vacation, but a kid he took under his wing insisted on him helping him sell chocolate bars for some school field trip. Fixing his hair just as the door opened, he pulled a chocolate bar from the box. “Good afternoon. May I interest you in a Hershey’s Chocolate?” A cheeky smile given, he licked his lips in an attempt to oversell the product. “It’s Mm Mm good.”

Jax made another adjustment to the couch for the tenth time, and still didn’t like how it was positioned. Not that it mattered, his girlfriend would just rearrange it later. “You want a water or something, Jean?” Making his way into the kitchen, he opened the door to the fridge to pull out a Gatorade for himself. “I’ve got water, vitamin water, flavored water. Oh, and soda.”
