Hi, I'm Jay (any pronouns). This blog is for my art only. Everything here will most likely be either my own posts, reblogs of my art from my main blog or crossposted. Any reblogged art that is not mine will be appropiately tagged.
I also have an instagram that I only post art on, but I have not done so recently (jayisabells)
Hope you enjoy!
(to be honest there are some things I did not reblog from my main blog because I don't like them now, improving now though (: )
rough redesign of Varesa (lets pretend I didn't forget her ears and tail)
notes below
My primary goal for Varesa's redesign was to take more inspiration from Latin America in her clothing, but still keep it similar to the original (and thus concept). I am attempting to redesign some of the Natlan characters, but find the most difficulty in changing to the traditional clothes I use as inspo, to fit the game and match the original character design. Also trying to think what would be relatively reasonable to 3D model. I feel I was more successful here.
From what I understand, originally Varesa was supposed to be inspired by luchadoras. I didn't get much of it from her design, other than some certain cuts in her clothes. I decided to inspiration from the Bolivian Fighting Cholitas. They are a group of indigenous women in Bolivia who fight in traditional wear.
Varesa's skirt here is supposed to have many layers, allowing it to keep the flared design and provides more coverage. The skirt color is changed to match textiles in Latin America in general. The textile pattern would probably be the part that most does not fit in the game because the inspo I am taking from would be difficult (in my minimal experience 3d modeling) to color/model. It would look too flat as an overlayed pattern, but adding texture such as pleats might emphasize the flatness more, or adding a lot of texture would stand out too much.
I changed her sweater thing to a shawl. I didn't add it on the redesign her because I was trying to make this quick, but there are tassels in the sketches for her design. The tassels would be like the tassels on Kaveh's design, large. I originally wanted them to be fine and thin, but that is also unreasonable to 3d model. I don't know if I want to add any patterns to the shawl, but I do have ideas in how it is utilized in character animations. This art has her in an active position, which means the shawl is more open, resting on her shoulders. In an idle animation, I imagine she will have it more closed, draping over the front of her outfit. During her elemental burst, I imagine it would start with her shawl closed, saying some catchphrase, before throwing it behind her (disappearing), then the rest of the animation.
I completely removed the sweater, but I added the texture back in to her chest area and leg warmers. The bodice and sleeves have original pattern that was on her chest. I made it larger in a different color to be more reminiscent of luchadoras.
More notes: Character Traits
The main one I have of her is that she is like one of those gym bros who are crazy about their protein intake to get buff. She loves food, but that food is literally full of pure protein. She's metaphorically adding protein powder to the tortillas.
Like many fighters do, she has her character. Which is a clumsy, sweetheart, which is counteracted by her adventures as the "Masked Hero" at night.
This is a collection of links to various posts concerning fundraisers I've vetted and instructions on how to submit fundraisers to me. These are primarily ones for Ghazzan families although some fundraisers for Sudanese families are also listed (I'm more familiar with my own country's politics and dialect and am more capable of vetting fundraisers for Palestinians as a result).
I know that people do not like clicking on links, but please actually look through the posts / Google Sheet and choose a fundraiser to donate to. Please.

About the targeted harassment campaign against Palestinians on tumblr, from August 2nd to August 3rd 2024. Now extended to August 7th because of writing-prompt-s' and badjokesbyjeff's accusations and slander.
Hey guys, I've added the google doc where me and Nairuz have been compiling the vetted fundraisers all on one list that can be easily updated and seen by everyone. I think it's faster than the system I had going before.
Go check it out, I've added 13 links in the past hour.
You can donate to the Palestine Children's Relief Fund for as little as $1.00.
There is a fee you can choose to apply to cover processing.
Which if you choose to do leaves you with a total of ~$1.35 (USD) depending on the type of card you have.
PCRF has a score of 97% on Charity Navigator.
Adults and children alike are currently dying in Palestine due to starvation. (World Health Organization Link)
The Gaza Strip is one of two places in the entire world that is categorized as Phase 5 (the highest phase) on the Integrated Food Security Phase Classification scale.
So even if you think it isn't enough, remember that donating even as little as $1.35 helps! It's $1.35 they wouldn't have had otherwise. So donate if you can. 🇵🇸
