he doesn’t even look at the other person, gaze focused on the mounds of objects in his arms. he’d picked up more baby books than one man could read and also a few maternity clothes for his fiance. by the angel he loved saying that. after the events of the dinner his family were struggling to get by and jerry wasn’t sure how he could help them all, so he busied himself with preparing for the arrival of his children.

“ if you’re here because one of my siblings has destroyed something and you expect me to pay then my office hours are twelve to four . right now it’s exactly one minute past four o clock which means i’m off the clock . so if you don’t mind , i have a fiance to go home to . “

     as always, at a time of chaos, leo had found himself in his property which was lost to anyone else besides him – but jeremiah. knowing his older brother would be occupied with his fiance, leo didn’t think he’d see him anytime soon, but there jerry was, already pulling him into a safe embrace. had it been anyone else than jerry leo would try to fight it off but never him. “ brother, ” leo let out a breath, voice pained.

he squeezes his little brother tighter. the dinner had been a disaster, an incredible disaster and the after effects were tearing their family at the seams. jeremiah releases him slowly, smiles softly and tries not to show how wrecked he feels. he’d tried so hard to keep this family together, and now he didn’t know if he could fix them, or if there was even anything left to fix.

“ i know , “ is his response, “ but brother i need you to know , none of this is your fault . “

     sitting before her fiance in quiet as a hand rested on the side of her stomach, nora’s heart was still aching with the first pain she felt as a mother, first fear of their safety. she could’ve lost them. thea already did lose a child. as much as she hurt for her future sister in law, her main focus was her own children right now, and her fiance. “ yeah, ” she mumbled, teary gaze directed ahead. she had to keep it together. jerry already had a lot to deal with, she wasn’t to add more. “ we’ll be okay… ” catching sight of his stele, nora raised her gaze towards him, free hand reaching out to hold his. “ can you – can you put on a hearing rune ? maybe you can hear their heartbeats. i - i just… i need it, jer. ”

he cups her cheek tenderly, trying to catch her gaze. he’s been shutting off the bond, trying to prohibit the amount of emotions anna could feel from him, but the bone deep ache he feels at the sight of her teary eyes is too strong for him to try and push down. jeremiah presses a sweet kiss to her hand before he draws the rune, strokes slow and purposeful. his entire being relaxes as he hears the fluttering of three heartbeats fill his ears and he leans forward, forehead resting on their joined hands.

“ they’re okay . our babies are okay ... nora i almost lost you , i almost lost all of you . “

his little brother was always surprisingly hard to find when upset, but jeremiah manages to find him anyway. the elder wallace lets himself into the property right on the edge of wilshire, gaze scanning over the room before finding his brother nestled between his paintings. he sighs softly before reaching out and throwing an arm around leo, pulling his little brother into a hug without a word.

he’s gentle as he draws the iratze on her side, gaze fixed on her stomach and determinedly not on his hands, still stained with blood. his father’s blood, his nephews blood, her blood, so much blood.as he watches flesh slowly knit back together until the wound is fully healed. brown eyes watch nora cautiously from his position crouched in front of her. it was his fault, he never shouldve allowed that dinner in the first place. he should’ve kept his siblings as far away from his hurricanes of parents as possible. 

“ love ? are you ... are you okay ? “

     her attention was on his face until he put something on the space between them, nora tilting her head down to watch the three tests fall just in time. now, of course she knew what they were, the surprise on her face was merely because she wasn’t expecting that. as he started to speak, her gaze was still focused on the tests, reaching to take them into her palm before looking back at jerry. “ jer… you mean – ” she paused to actually think about it. how could she be so blind… her mind was so clouded with her fears of her uncle showing up and the war brewing, she didn’t even pay attention to her own body. she stood up, swaying to the side a bit as she felt dizzy for a second, steadying herself before stammering. “ i - i just – i will take them… ” with another look at her fiance’s face, she started to walk towards the small bathroom attached to their room, turning her head to look at him. “ will you – wait right by the door ? ” she requested, needing him close for that. and with that she went in, there started the wait.

he takes in her expression cautiously, searching for any hesitance or fear in her expression. once upon a time they’d broached the subject of a family, of little nora’s running around, but they hadn’t spoken of them and where they stood since her return and jerry hadn’t wanted to push the issue. the shadowhunter is up the moment she is, a hand reaching out as if to steady her, not quite touching but almost. should he give her space? the eldest wallace gives her a small smile as she walks to the bathroom, half nodding as he moves to stand by the door, listening to the soft click of the latch. he waits a few minutes before gently knocking on the door.

“ love ? are you okay in there ? “

     nora let out a soft chuckle when he gently shook her by her waist, the sleepiness slowly fading away as she was able to keep her eyes open now at least, though convincing herself to sit up was a bit of a struggle on her end. she didn’t know why did he wake her up if not for dinner but now she was surely curious. “ okay, okay … i’m awake. ” she smiled, arms reaching up to hold onto his arm as she properly sat up, leaving a fleeting kiss on his shoulder. “ hey. ”

he sits beside her as she pushes herself up, pressing a soft kiss to her temple in turn. jeremiah tucks some of her hair behind her ear, the plastic bag in his other hand crinkling softly. he places it between them on the bed, tipping it so that the three slim boxes fall out. he’d bought three different tests; of course they couldn't be truly sure until they saw a doctor but this was better than not knowing.

“ nora ... do you remember the night i proposed ? you’ve been different since then love . sleeping more , eating less ; you turned down your favourite meal because you said the smell made you feel sick ... i’m surprised i noticed the signs before you did love , but i think ... i think this might be about to become a family of three , “

     “ hm ? ” opening her eyes slowly, the shadowhunter turned to the side in the bed, gaze going up until her eyes met jeremiah’s. rubbing her eyes, nora had to force herself to keep them open enough to watch jerry stand over the bed; despite that it was her second nap of the day, she still found herself wanting more sleep, even as she smiled at her fiance who had just woken her up. “ woke me up for dinner ? ” she asked, rolling onto her back. “ i don’t want to eat… maybe after i sleep some more… ”

he stifles a laugh as she rolls over, hand slipping over her waist to shake her gently. she’d been sleeping so much lately this was becoming a habit. at first he brushed it off as a side effect of her capture, body catching up on the rest she’d likely been deprived, but now... her stomach was rounder, body tired and nauseous by the smell of previously favourite foods. it wasn’t hard for jeremiah to connect the dots; yet apparently nora hadn’t.

“ it’s not time for dinner yet my love , but you need to wake up now . “

the moment the drinks are set in front of them, max’s expression settles into a confused frown, almost making him forget what they had been talking about. “i ─ have no idea. milkshakes, maybe?” he takes one sniff at the drink and it’s enough to tell him that no, not a milkshake. “is there such thing as alcoholic milkshakes? what the bloody hell is this? is it just me or does it… sparkle?”

jeremiah pulls the small umbrella out of his glass, giving the drink a suspicious look as he turns to watch max. the shadowhunter gives it a tentative sniff before lifting up the glass. he goes to drink from it before pausing and putting it back.

“ - you drink it . if it’s some poisoned toxic glitter sludge i don’t want to die . “

he wakes up, instinctively reaching for nora’s side of the bed. jeremiah breathes a sigh of relief when he finds her there and rolls onto his side, gently brushing some of her hair back from her face. her hand lays between them on the pillow and he takes a moment to admire the ring on her finger, bliss running through him as he moves to press a kiss to her cheek.

“ love , it’s time to wake up , “

the shadowhunters whispers softly, lips brushing her cheek as he speaks before he rests back against his pillow, hand moving to intertwine their fingers and press a kiss to the back of her palm. jeremiah watches her blink sleepily at him, fond smile growing not that he’d ever try to stop it.
