[text] Hey, babe! There's going to be a protest by the LGBTQ+ Club on Saturday about Mr Trump. I'm thinking of having the Creative Writing Club attend to show our support for the protest. Thoughts?
[ text ] Oh, yeah. Definitely. I think that’s a great idea.
SUMMARY: The events that unfolded at Eleanor’s Halloween party.
TRIGGERS: mentions of PHYSICAL ABUSE
Eleanor had already invited a few people already, before the party had "officially" begun; it wasn't like an empty house was something that people enjoyed, right? The music was blaring from speakers that varied between the floors of the house, while the kitchen - piled with a variety of different drinks, cocktails and food was stocked up completely. Pre-drinks had been almost a definite, for Eleanor, because having a sober host was not something she wanted for tonight. The tingling bubbles of excitement had begun to take over, despite a small element of fear of it all going wrong - would people even turn up, anyway? It had been a kind of last minute decision, after all. Still, she plastered a grin upon her cherry red lips as she welcomed the people walking through the front door, giving out hugs and squeals of "long time no see!" to anyone and everyone.
Andrew put the finishing touches on his makeup, knowing a thing or two about it from being a photographer and the occasional glam look he'd rock at the Seattle pride parades. He'd managed to make himself look like he'd literally fallen from heaven. He had a gash across his face, twigs and leaves in his hair, 'dirt' smudges on his arms, face, and chest. He looked awesome. And the best part? No clothes. He was barefoot and bare chested. The only cloth he was actually wearing was a black pair of boxer briefs and black wings. He made his way to the address Ellie had sent them all in the morning and grinned as he saw it already booming by the time he arrived. He walked up to the door and followed the crowd inside and made a beeline for his best friend. "Hey, you." He hugged her tightly and spun her around just for kicks.
Eleanor squealed as she felt a pair of arms wrapping around her from behind, spinning around to face him with a grin and hugging him back. "Andrew!" She beamed as her eyes roamed over his costume, an eyebrow raising in somewhat approval. "Oh my god. Your costume. It is absolutely incredible!" There were already girls who Eleanor had been previously talking to who looked to be eyeing Andrew up - from the looks of their giggles, Andrew was going to be having a lot of attention tonight. "Do you have a drink yet-" Eleanor asked curiously, glancing down at his hands before frowning, "C'mon. I'll go and get you one, babe."
Andrew winked at Eleanor as she looked him over and apparently liked what she saw. "I warned everyone weeks ago. A drunken bout of inspiration actually turned out pretty well, I'd say." He heard the girls giggling beside Eleanor and glanced at them, grinning that signature Smythe smile that could make just about anyone weak in the knees. He was soaking up the attention in other words, of course. He looked back at Ellie when she mentioned a drink and winced in a way that was barely visible, nodding with a smaller smile. "I'll have one," He conceded before following her.
Lanie swung the bathroom door open. She was one of the luckier people to be allowed in early but they should have not have offered her alcohol because she was already on her second drink and a little more than tipsy and Lanie was probably the best Harley Quinn ever. Not only did she hire someone to do her make up for her but she made her costume herself -- how 'bout that for a rich and conceited girl? She giggled, noticing two familiar figures not far. She sauntered over, hugging Eleanor from behind. "I leave to piss for a few seconds and you're already left me I hate you," she whined. Her attention turned to Andrew and she waved enthusiastically. "What up Andrew my boy? Your costume is amazing man I'm slowly becoming straight," she teased.
Andrew looked at Lanie when he heard her voice and chuckled softly at her teasing comment. "Hey, Laniebear. Honestly, my heart hurts a little every time I look at you and remember you're only into the cooter. So, that compliment is much appreciated." He looked at her elaborate and frankly awesome Harley Quinn costume and grinned. "And that costume doesn't help."
Eleanor rolled her eyes playfully a ton Andrew's wink, deciding immediately that she was definitely making sure that her best friend was carrying protection with him at all times tonight - God knows, he might need it with all the attention. "Please. You're basically naked and it's completely distracting, Smythe." She laughed, watching as another group of girls dissolved into giggles, not being able to resist another eye roll teasingly. "Looks like you have a fan club." She teased, grinning, before turning on her heel to lead Andrew to the kitchen. Just as she was she was able to leave, Lanie returned from the bathroom, and Eleanor greeted her with a beam, "You know I love you, Lanes. Come and join me in corruption Andrew in our kitchen of way too many drinks."
Julian didn't want to be lame and show up super early, but since his costume was basically just a spandex suit with weapons and his anxiety was completely untethered, he wasn't about to sit and go stir crazy in his room. So he pulled on the suit, strapped on the belts that looked like something out of an S&M porn, and slid the fake, plastic katanas into their sheathes. The house was bigger than any that he'd ever been in, but that stupid awe on his face was easily hidden by the mask. The fear of being the first nerd to show up was absolutely unfounded when Jules noticed the crowds that had already started to form. "Damn, Ells," he laughed, finding a drink and weaving through people to check out more of the place.
Lanie let out a giggle, pretending to blush. "I am a married woman do not think you can win me over with your flattery," she retorted in a Southern accent. She licked her lips at the thought of more alcohol and clapped her hands together. "I've already had two but you know I'll go onto three because it's a party and my job to get drunk." She swayed back and forth as she then said in a sing-song voice, "the party don't start until Lanie gets drunk!"
Andrew chuckled and shrugged, grinning smugly. "You can act like you're annoyed all you want, Ellie, but I saw the way you looked at me when you saw me, you love it too." He blew a kiss at her, eliciting yet another fit of giggles from his 'fan club'. He raised an eyebrow and chuckled again as he waved at them. "Do you even know those girls well? I've never seen them before." He looked at Lanie who was clearly already pretty tipsy. "I'm gonna do my best to not get trashed tonight... We'll see how that goes." He locked eyes with his best friend, knowing she'd understand why.
Eleanor sent a fake glare in Andrew's direction, despite the small grin that she was fighting the urge to show. "It's just such a shame I'm stuck in the friendzone, 'ya know? What a waste." She chuckled, sarcasm and playfulness lacing her tone as she pretended to catch the blown kiss and send one back; receiving more than a few glares from his "fan club". Damn, Daniel; girls were crazy. Giving them another glance, Eleanor gave a small shrug, "I kind of recognise them? Somewhat, anyway." It wasn't really a big deal, since there weren't too many neighbors and it wasn't a Eleanor's problem if anything got smashed. It was only when she heard Andrew's words did she blink, a sense of reality stepping in before she nodded swiftly, "Why'd you wanna get smashed, anyway? It just mean you get hungover, embarass yourself and make a ton of mistakes. I'll pass." She kept her voice light-hearted, while her eyes remained firmly on Andrew; there was no way he was going through this alone.
Lanie knew that three was a crowd and so when she felt ignored, she made sure to become the center of attention again -- or at least tried to. She looked in the direction of one of the girls in the so called fan club. "Do you think any of those girls are a lil bit queer because they're cute," she commented. Oblivious to what exchange was happening between the two she laughed in response to a comment about hangovers. "Oh fuck that I need to get drunk so I don't remember anything. All I need to do is forget..." her voice trailed off as she suddenly jerked her head to the side as she thought she saw a familiar face and she froze up. "God no..."
Andrew smiled small at Eleanor, appreciatively, and then looked at Lanie and then at the girls again laughing softly. "I'm sure at least one of them would swing your way, Laniebear. They seem a little air-brained though. You could do better if you're looking for more than a quick lay. But if not, any one of them would be perfect." He laughed again and looked around the room, trying to see if he saw a Deadpool strolling around. He looked back at Lanie when he heard the dread in her voice, trying to catch her line of sight. "You okay?"
Lanie let out a soft laugh. "I'm only looking for a one night stand. I'm like itching for sex, you know what I'm saying?" she chuckled, crossing her arms. Lanie snapped her head back and nodded. She could have sworn she saw her but she realized it must have been her imagination. Why would a dead girl be at a party? "I think the alcohol is taking a toll on me. I think I'm seeing things."
Andrew laughed again as he listened to Lanie. "Of course I know what you're sayin', I fuck like it's my job. It's not by the way. Just wanna make that clear." He frowned a bit. "Let's get you something to eat and some water then."
Julian got lost in the kitchen, finding a butt load of snack food out and taking the liberty of pigging out before he drank too much. He walked away with a handful of chips, hoping he might catch sight of anyone he might actually recognize. A lot of the people he'd seen so far weren't recognizable or he really was just super antisocial and didn't talk to enough of his classmates. Mask curled up over his nose, his smile was visible when he noticed his nearly naked friend across the room. "Wow," he raised his eyebrows, which probably had very little effect since they were covered by his mask. "I mean, no one can say you didn't go for it."
Andrew heard Julian's familiar voice from across the room, somehow over the blaring music. Probably because he was actively searching for it. He turned his head and grinned at the other man, practically giggling like a school girl as he made the short trek over to Julian. "Do you like it? I mean, I genuinely did try to look cool. I didn't choose this costume just to be nearly naked."
Julian pulled the mask full off as Andrew approached, messing up his hair in the process and tucked the mask into his belt. "You have on more than a lot of the girls here. It's that special time of year, I guess," he smirked. "You look really good, Drew."
Andrew shook his head and laughed, shrugging. "Thanks for trying to make me feel better, but I think I have the thottiest costume here still. And that's fine. I'm an artist, I go for shock value and storytelling. And that's what my costume does." He nodded assertively before nearly melting at Julian's compliment, not having expected it whatsoever. "I um.. thank you. I--thanks." He blushed and stumbled over his words and shook his head at himself. That one comment alone from Jules meant more to him than all the fangirls that had been giggling and hooting at him since he arrived.
Julian shrugged. "Wasn't trying to make you feel any certain way. I mean, yeah, you're like," he looked him up and down. "Really not wearing very much but I wouldn't be surprised if there was someone that found some way to come naked without anybody even realizin'. Like that body painting shit," he laughed, smile remaining when he noticed that Andrew was turning pink. "You're welcome. I mean, you obviously worked hard on it and it's really brave to walk around in your underwear."
Andrew looked at Julian and smirked a bit as the other man openly gave him a once over. As he listened to Julian finish his statement, he tilted his head to the side, still smiling slightly as he tried to figure out if this was Julian's attempt at flirting with him. He quickly killed that thought though, because duh, not even a full week ago, the man had just told Andrew he didn't see him that way. Instead, he just shrugged, feigning nonchalance. "I suppose that's true. Don't worry, I know you weren't trying to make me feel like a slut." He cursed himself as the smile on Julian's face clearly indicated that he'd noticed he was blushing. He chuckled softly at Julian's next string of compliments. "Thanks."
Julian finished off the chips he was still holding and shook his head. "Nah, I was aiming more for the 'you look really rad and great and not gross at all' kinda thing and didn't really even consider the slut part at all, but you get it, so," he shrugged, gesturing down to his own costume. "I couldn't do that. I literally covered my whole damn body."
Andrew chuckled a bit again, grinning at Julian. He was acting a bit shy and rambly for some reason and Andrew found it adorable. But what about Julian didn't he find adorable? Still, there was something different about tonight. He wasn't sure what exactly, but it seemed like a shift... definitely a step up from their last few interactions at least, which was obviously a great thing. "I'm kind of an exhibitionist, really. So I didn't really think twice about showing off."
Julian had a hard time keeping his head on straight when he went off his medicine for a few days, but he wouldn't be able to drink at all otherwise. Too risky. And Halloween was meant for drinking and dressing super rad. It made the nerves and the shakey knees worth it. "Makes sense. A true artist doesn't hold back when they know they have great work to show. Need another drink?" he asked, tapping his drink and smiling.
Andrew blushed lightly again at Julian's words. Now, he wasn't just being hopeful, was he? What else could that line have been besides flirtation? "Thank you," He muttered softly again and ducked his head down for a moment, uncharacteristically shy. He looked back up and shook his head at Julian's offer to get him another drink. "Nah, I'm good. I actually haven't even had my first..." Anyone who knows Andrew even a little bit would be shocked by that. But he wasn't really ready to tell Julian why he wasn't drinking and it certainly wasn't the right time or place, even if he was. "I'll take a soda or something though..."
Julian nodded kind of sheepishly, nervous because this was completely unfamiliar territory but seeing Drew blush was also kind of exciting and it didn't feel as strange as he'd convinced himself that it would. "Of course," he smiled like a dope. "Taking it easy tonight? Different... but good?" Julian wasn't fully aware of the situations that Andrew had going on with alcohol but he'd known him for far too long to see him turning down a drink and not question that something was turning around. "Okay, cool. I'll be right back." He smiled again and moved toward the last place he'd seen anything non-alcoholic.
Eleanor had been dotting around the party from one person to the other, ensuring that people had drinks, were having a good time and no arguments were going to kick off at any moment. It was only after around an hour of the party being in swing did she decide to go and find some of her friends - no, not the boring friends that she had just been tending to - but her actual friends. With another sip from her cup, Eleanor made her way downstairs, her eyes glancing around in somewhat curiosity. Where were her friends? She glanced down at her phone with a small frown, pushing through a crowd of people as she made her way inside of the kitchen. Well, there wasn't anything wrong with another drink, right?
Andrew smiled as he looked at Julian. This was a cute moment they were sharing, whatever it was. They were both shy and nervous and it was endearing even as a participant. He chuckled softly at the dopey smile Julian flashed at him, flashing one back that was probably just as dopey as he nodded at Julian's question. "Yeah.. Just trying to turn over a new leaf, I guess." He watched him walk away and smiled to himself adorably. He had no idea what was happening but whatever it was, he loved it. He glanced around as he waited for him to return, and noticed Ellie walking around looking lost and pouty. He quickly moved over to her and grabbed her hand before she could grab another drink. "Hey, sweetie. Why do you look so sad?"
Eleanor glanced over, a wave of relief washing over her as she spotted Andrew before her eyes darted over to Julian, an eyebrow quirking in suspicion. Since when had these two been particularly close, especially with the weird, loved up expression that Julian seemed to have. It was odd. "Someone just threw up everywhere and I'm fairly certain at least two couples have broken up." She groaned with a quick eye roll, pouting when she glanced down at the drinks. Still, if Andrew wasn't drinking too much, neither should she, really. "But I'm not sad, don't worry - have you seen 'Melia anywhere? I haven't seen her since she got back from Boston." And since Amelia started sending weird messages to Her about lying and whatnot, Ellie remarked inwardly with a sense of bitterness. She had no clue why everyone seemed to be offloading their secrets lately; Lanie, Andrew and now supposedly Amelia? What was going on?
Andrew winced as Eleanor railed off the collateral damage that came with throwing a wild party full of hot, rich people. He knew that feel all too well. "Oh, okay. Sorry Ells. But the bright side is, you don't have to clean that shit up, whoever the cleaning staff is has to. And as for the couples breaking up, that's their shit to deal with." He glanced down at Ellie's hand and how he'd unintentionally kept her from getting a drink and smiled apologetically. "Oh, you don't have to... If you wanna drink, you can... You don't have to be sober just because I am." He gently let go of her hand and put both of his hands behind his back awkwardly. He shook his head. "No," He answered with a pout. "Which makes me sad because I was really hoping to see her here."
Eleanor gave a small shrug, trying not to appear too both by the so called chaos her party had unfolded. It wasn't her problem, right? Definitely not. "Don't be sorry," She scoffed, "It's completely alright. Cleaning staff can work their magic and I'll throw a ton of dollars in their direction whenever I can. Thank god for rich parents, you know?" It felt weird; holding hands with Andrew. Almost a little incest-y, in some respects. "I don't wanna drink, it's completely chill," She smiled across at him, chuckling slightly at how awkward Andrew was about holding his hands. He was so cute. "Like, what is up with her lately, anyway? It seems she's either spending her time in Boston, getting it on with JD or doing whatever else. It's sad." Her voice was laced with irritation. What kind of best friend completely blew her off without any explanation?
Amelia felt anxious suddenly when JD told her that she was going to grab them a few drinks. Non-alcoholic for her -- she couldn't stand anything else. It hurt to breathe and she was in far too much pain to be in public, but she promised Eleanor that she'd be there. Trying not to suck in too deep of a breath in fear that it might hurt, Amelia just stood there with her arms over her chest. The party had a good turn out, of course. Amelia loved parties. She was upset she couldn't partake as much as she wanted to. Instead, she just looked on, hoping her make up covered her bruises. It would be just fine. She'd be okay. It was going to be okay. Or at least she had hoped so.
Eleanor froze, her eyes widening in absolute shock at the text that she had just received. This was a joke, right? Some sick, messed up joke. Amelia couldn't have been in an abusive relationship. Or... any of it. It couldn't have been real. She took a few steps back, shock written across her features, "Oh my god..." she muttered quietly, tears welling in her eyes, "This can't be happening..." Seconds later and Eleanor was staggering outside of the kitchen, her eyes darting around the crowds of people, suddenly feeling claustaphobic. Someone screamed "HAPPY BIRTHDAY" in her face but Eleanor gave them a blank look, staggering past them, stunned, before her eyes landed on Amelia. Oh my god, she was still here. "Amelia." She said blankly, blinking, her eyes watering as she took in her best friend. "This is a joke, right?" She choked out.
Amelia took in Eleanor's appearance, and immediately regretted that she told her the way that she did. Amelia looked small, backing away from her somewhat - the loud noises hurting her head - and she shook her head. "It's not a joke..." Amelia trailed off, biting her lower lip. "I - I'm sorry. I didn't mean to snap at you. I'm just really tired and I hurt. A lot." Amelia sighed shakily, taking in a deep breath. She forgot how badly that would hurt. She winced and clenched her jaw. "I'm sorry.. that was really rude of me. But yeah.. it's not a joke. I don't feel like going into the details right now, but.. yeah."
Amelia: TW PHYSICAL ABUSE kind of mentions jsyk
Eleanor felt absolutely awful, guilt overwhelming her all at once. It didn't take much to realize just how hurt Amelia was. "Oh my god, A..." she trailed off, her eyes wide, "We need to get you to hospital. You're hurt." She said simply, her "no nonsense" tone in place once again; she didn't give a damn that it was her party. Amelia was hurt. God knows how much she must have been hurting. "I'm so, so sorry." Eleanor whispered, her voice shaky and unstable as she took a step forward, taking out her mobile and rapidly texting one of her cousins. Thankfully, they lived nearby. They could help.
Amelia pushed Eleanor's phone down just slightly, shaking her head. "No, I'm fine. Really. A couple of bruised ribs and a crazy messed up face. But otherwise, I'm fine. Nothing like that, please. It'll just make me feel worse. I don't have the energy." Amelia shrugged, looking around for JD. He was her anchor right now, and she wasn't sure exactly why she latched onto him so much. She wanted comfort from Eleanor too, just not like this. "Honestly? I just need a drink and then to get back in bed."
Andrew listened to Eleanor talk about Amelia and immediately realized what the problem was -- Amelia had attempted to tell Eleanor what was going on with her, and then took it back. Already knowing what was going on made his reaction to the situation significantly more complicated, so he was almost relieved when Eleanor walked away. The sound of Amelia's voice immediately regarnered his attention though and he made a beeline for the girls. He arrived at the cusp of Amelia's plea to Eleanor to not take her to the hospital. "You haven't seen a doctor yet?" He blurted out, his voice thankfully not high above a whisper, but he still said that without much thought. What if Eleanor got upset about being one of the last to know about Amelia's secret? Alas, he couldn't take it back. But he could try to make a run for it. "Um. Have y'all seen Julian? He went to get me a drink and didn't come back."
Eleanor found herself darting between Andrew and Amelia, realising instantly that Andrew already knew. Well. Deciding not to focus on that - it wasn't important right now - Eleanor gave a small frown, confusion rippling over her. "You don't look okay, Amelia. Are you sure you're okay?" She asked, her eyes glittering with worry, chewing down on her lower lip - an instant giveaway that she was upset. A million different thoughts were racing through her head, the shots she had taken previously beginning to take affect; her brain felt fuzzy, unable to comprehend what was going on. "Julian? Uh - I don't know..." she trailed off, mumbling incoreherent thoughts to herself, turning away from both Andrew and Amelia. She could feel tears prickling in the back of her eyes, threatening to fall as she stumbled forward a little.
Andrew knew immediately when he looked at Eleanor and saw the look on her face that she had figured out that he already knew about Amelia's situation. He felt bad instantly and especially when she began to tear up and look away from them. He knew then that he wouldn't be running off to find Julian on his own, he would stay and comfort his best friend. He gently rubbed the small of her back in a way that he knew helped her relax and then moved so he was facing her again and embraced her in a hug, stroking her hair. "Shhh, it's okay. Don't cry, please."
Eleanor turned, feeling instantly guilty when she Saw Andrew behind her. What had she done to deserve such an incredible best friend? She deserved so much worse than this. God, she didn't thank Andrew enough. The thoughts buzzed around her brain like an electric current all at once, making her feel dizzy, light-headed, almost. "I'm an awful person." She whispered as tears fell from her eyes, turning away momentarily so he wouldn't catch them. "Amelia's just admitted something like that, and how do I react? By breaking down and being offended I wasn't Told." People were staring; that much was evident. She needed to stop. "You're so incredible..." she muttered quietly, her arm looping around his neck as she stumbled, not quite able to stand up. "I don't thank you enough."
Amelia was a little overwhelmed when everything happened so quickly. Andrew was comforting Eleanor, and she wasn't quite sure what was happening, but all she knew is that she didn't have the energy for it. "Um," Amelia mumbled, feeling somewhat dizzy. "I'm.. gonna head out. Looks like you've got it covered, Andrew." She sighed and shook her head. Most of the time, this is why Amelia didn't tell people things. Amelia started walking away in order to find JD, wanting to leave the party already.
Andrew pulled back from Eleanor with a soft sigh, feeling guilty for comforting her when obviously Amelia was the person who needed the most attention at this time. It was difficult for him to be in the midst of a crisis with two of his favorite people. He didn't know which one to turn to. But Eleanor was crying and so his natural instinct, as a decent man, was to comfort a girl who was in tears. "I'll be back, Ells," He muttered softly before taking Eleanor's face gently in his hands and kissing her nose and then hurrying off to catch up to Amelia. "Mimi, wait! Don't leave yet, please? I know you're in pain and you're exhausted, but I miss you so much that it's starting to make my stomach ache. Can you stay and I don't know, just sit with me or something, until you absolutely can't stand being here anymore? Please?"
Amelia was taken aback when she heard Andrew call after her. It'd been awhile since she spent any real time with him, and she couldn't help but smile softly at the fact that he wanted to spend time with her that badly. "Well," Amelia started, looking over towards a loveseat - the only thing available at the moment. She sat down, motioning him to sit with her. "Hi," she said awkwardly.
Andrew chuckled softly at Amelia's misplaced awkwardness. They knew each other pretty well, there was no need for her to be so awkward around him. He followed her over to the loveseat and sat beside her. "Hi," he echoed, smiling sweetly at her before taking his wings off. Ruined his aesthetic, but the straps were starting to leave uncomfortable imprints on his skin and everyone there had probably seen him at least once, so no one would question what he was going as without his wings on.
Amelia immediately laid her head on Andrew's shoulder, letting out a deep sigh. It wasn't that she felt awkward around him, really. It was the fact that she felt awkward and small in general. She just felt different, and there was really no explaining it. "I missed you," Amelia told him, closing her eyes. Thankfully, the people around them were so into themselves that they weren't looking her way. In case she wanted to cry. Which, with her, who knows?
Andrew smiled as Amelia laid her head on his shoulder and seemed to relax a bit. As endearing as the awkwardness was, he felt better knowing she felt comfort in his presence. He kissed the top of her head. "I missed you too." After talking to Amelia for a while, Andrew said his goodbyes and let her know that he was going to look for Julian, because he was getting deeply concerned for his friend at this point. Once she'd wandered off to find JD, he made his way to the kitchen, that being the first place he'd look because that's the last place he expected Julian had gone into.
Julian returned quickly to the place where he'd been talking to Andrew, soda in hand, to an empty space and frowned before spotting him not far away with the girls. Not wanting to interrupt, even though he was kind of friends with them too, he bit his bottom lip between his teeth and turned around to find something else to do for a while. It was a party after all. He circled around and found his way back to the kitchen, perching up on a barstool to play quarters with some of the football players.
Eleanor had somewhat sobered a little, reality kicking back in and the role of "hostess" returning naturally after around an hour, so obviously she was partaking in a three way kiss between two rugby players whose names she had forgotten - yikes, right? It wasn't like it was a big deal. A few minutes later, and they hadn't invited her upstairs to one of the guest rooms to "get to know each other a little", to which Ellie responded with an eye roll and scoffed "as if", before spotting Julian. "Hey, hey, hey!" She greeted, walking over to him with a cheeky grin, "How're you finding the party, babe?"
Andrew wandered into the kitchen and saw Julian chatting with a newly sober Eleanor. He grinned at the sight of them and walked up to them. "Hey, guys." He glanced over at Julian and pouted a little, about to complain that he hadn't even gotten his soda when he saw he had an Orange Crush in his hand and smiled brightly. "Aww, my favorite. You remembered." He chuckled softly and took the soda from him. "Thank you. Why'd you disappear for so long though?" He asked, jutting out his lower lip like a small child who wanted something from his parents.
Julian turned on his stool and grinned when he saw Eleanor. "Hey, beautiful," he said, discarding the quarter he'd been about to flip. "The party is fuckin' rad. Not a ton of people I actually know but still fantastic. How's it goin'? You've gotta be loving this." His smile broadened as the familiar, tangled mess of hair approached. "Definitely didn't forget about you. You looked busy," he shrugged. "Didn't wanna interrupt. Then I got caught up."
Andrew grinned as the sound of his voice brought an immediate smile to Julian's face. Not to mention, the way he assured him that he hadn't forgotten about him made butterflies flare up in his stomach for some reason. He touched Julian's arm in the ever so slightly, but definitely flirty way that a girl might and turned his body language completely towards the other man. "Aw, you're sweet. It's okay." He gently squeezed Julian's bicep, again subtly, before pulling his hand away from his arm and opening his soda.
Julian raised his eyebrows, glancing down at the hand on his arm and back up to Andrew's face. He'd always noticed the small stuff Andrew did throughout the years when he was flirting with him, but this was much more blatant. "Of course, you're welcome." The contact left him smirking and he turned in his seat to face him fully. "Are you having a good time?" he asked, tilting his head as he rest back on his elbows. "The games are kinda fun."
Andrew just gave a little shrug and barely there smirk when Julian raised his eyebrow at him. While Julian often made Andrew feel shy and nervous, Andrew was always his most confident at parties or social situations. It was a part of his job to be confident in those kinds of situations after all. Plus, he was just going off the vibe Julian seemed to be sending his way and the other man didn't seem to mind it. He didn't know what inspired Julian's sudden flirtatious attitude towards him, but Andrew was certainly going to milk it for what it was worth. They could talk about why it happened later. Right now, he just wanted to live in the moment. He let his eyes travel up and down the length of Julian's body when he sat back and nodded. "Mhmm, but I haven't played any games. Mainly just been mingling."
Julian didn't really go to a lot of parties. They were usually loud or too crowded and overall just way too tiring for his taste. But this was one that he'd really wanted to show up for, so he was taking in everything for what it was worth. The game wasn't the most fun thing he'd ever done, but it was more amusing than standing around staring at people. He wasn't the best at small talk anyway, so watching other people getting ridiculously drunk and rowdy over a game was pretty damn amusing. "D'you wanna play? Or would you rather go do something else?" he asked, smiling.
Andrew shook his head and chuckled. "I'm not really big on party games. Depending on what something else is, I'm going to go with that option... I'll say this though, I definitely want to find somewhere quieter and less crowded." He knew that sounded like a line, but he legitimately meant it, so he elaborated. "Hours of loud music and people everywhere starts to give you a headache after a while, you know? So, if you don't mind..." He suddenly started to feel a bit shy again and wasn't totally sure why.
Julian shrugged. "Yeah, I've only ever really played with a couple of people. Nothing quite as," he gestured with his hands to show the size. "large. I guess. Something else... sounds good, though. Kind of sounds like you're gonna ask me to go upstairs." He laughed, hopping up from his stool and wrapping a hand around Andrew's arm, pulling him gently out of the kitchen. "I might've already scoped out the place. People kinda start thinning out on the other side of the house."
Andrew nodded as he listened to Julian talk about the party games, smiling sweetly at him because sometimes he just liked hearing the sound of his voice. He laughed nervously, ducking his head shyly as his cheeks flushed a bit when Julian insinuated he wanted to take him upstairs. Though it wasn't entirely false, he still couldn't say with certainty that that was his intention. He was toeing the edge of the line, but he was pretty sure asking him to go upstairs would've been jumping clean over it. "Nah, I legitimately wanna get away from the noise and the crowd for a while. Promise." He got up and blushed more as Julian hooked his hand around his arm, finally meeting his eyes again and that soft smile returning. He nodded as Julian admitted he already explored the large home and knew of somewhere quiet to go. "Perfect."
Julian nodded, biting his lips together as they wove through people. "I kind of wanted to talk to you about something, anyway," he glanced back at Andrew before pulling a door open in front of them and entering. There were a few people scattered throughout, but it was much less crowded than where they'd been. It would have worked well if he was just looking for something quiet but he needed them to be alone. "Um.." he hummed, eyes darting around the room until they landed on another door set off behind a group of girls. Jules pulled him around them, rolling his eyes at their giggles and pulled Andrew into the next room. It was empty but for a pool table and a small bar. "Perfect," he breathed, shutting the door behind Andrew and dropping his hand from it's grip.
Andrew followed him through the wave of people and smiled at the few people he and Eleanor knew mutually, gently swatting away a couple of drunk girls who tried to grab at him as he walked through. He heard Julian say he wanted to talk and bit his lip gently, nodding as his stomach tied in knots. What about? He wondered to himself. He watched as Julian disregarded the room with only a few people in it and searched for somewhere where they could be alone and blushed again, cursing himself for it. Jesus Andrew, pull yourself together. You're you, he told himself silently. He chuckled as Julian pulled him around the giggling girls and looked at Julian as the door closed behind them, keeping a safe, but admittedly short distance between them. He licked his lips absentmindedly, a nervous habit. "So..."
Julian had been thinking about the conversation he wanted to have since the short one he'd had with Christian. He still wasn't entirely confident and he surely wasn't ready to talk to anyone else about it but he needed to start being totally honest with himself and that started with talking to Andrew about exactly what he was thinking and feeling and everything that the voicemail had sparked in him. "It's about that voicemail," he licked his lips, nervous. "I feel like we've been tiptoeing around it. And I'm not saying it's your fault because it's mine too but there's a reason and you can't just run away because you're nervous or uncomfortable. I need you to listen." He stepped closer, closing some of the already short distance between them until their chests were nearly touching.
Andrew looked at Julian and could easily tell that something was really heavy on his mind. He waited patiently for him to begin speaking, looking at him with sincere compassion in his eyes. He wanted Jules to know he could feel comfortable telling Andrew anything. His breath caught in his throat when Julian mentioned it was about the voicemail and he tensed a bit but the compassion in his green eyes remained. As Julian closed more of the distance between them, it left Andrew almost cornered against the door and yet he didn't feel the slightest discomfort, aside from dreading whatever Julian had to say about the voicemail. He nodded. "Okay. I won't run. I'm listening, I promise." He felt an immediate desire to wrap his arms around Julian's neck as their chests nearly touched but he refrained even though his hands felt like they were itching to touch the other man.
Julian looked down, not just letting his eyes wonder over the curve of Andrew's hips but actually trying to collect his nerves as a lot of what he'd had to drink earlier had worn off and he wasn't on his prescription tonight. It made his hands shake and sweat build on his brow. Julian's mind was racing with the fear and stress that he usually avoided and it made it harder for him to speak. "I, um -," he started, swallowing his words and balling his hands into fists before lifting them to rest on Drew's bare hips. His skin was softer than Jules thought it would be and he looked back up with staggered breath before pushing himself up on his toes and pressing his lips against Andrew's.
Andrew looked at Julian, keeping his compassionate eyes fixated on the other man's and noticed his sudden shift in demeanor and he looked a lot more nervous than he'd been literally minutes earlier. He looked a bit concerned now until he saw the way Julian's eyes dropped to his hips and it made him get a swooping feeling in his stomach like he'd gone on a dip on a rollercoaster. His breathing was suddenly a bit more shallow and he shivered pleasantly as Julian's hands landed on his bare hips, causing him to let out a little whimper. Once Julian started to lean in and press his lips to his, suddenly time slowed down a bit and then once their lips were connected, time resumed its normal speed and he immediately returned the kiss, softly and slowly, his hands coming up to rest on Julian's cheeks as they kissed, his heart beating fast.
Julian was surprised at how quickly his nerves and the rigidity in his muscles started melting. He was still nervous and still confused but lips as soft as Andrew's were really good at dulling and distracting from any of that. The breath that had been balled up in his throat left him and he kissed Drew with more earnest. Kissing a man was totally unfamiliar territory and definitely felt different. There was something a little more rough, even in the softness but he enjoyed it. He'd always imagined what it would feel like and maybe it was just because it was Andrew, but his expectations had been exceeded. The grip that he held on his hips tightened, thumbs massaging against the bone of his hips as he pushed forward and they were pressing against the door.
Andrew felt Julian relax under his touch and smiled a bit into the kiss before deepening it ever so slightly. Kissing Julian felt amazing to say the very least. Of course, Andrew had imagined this moment a million times before but he never thought it would come to fruition and he especially didn't think Julian would be the one to initiate it, but that made it all the better. Still, as they kissed, there was a small inkling of doubt in the back of his mind that made it a bit difficult to just surrender himself to the moment like he so desperately wanted to. So, he pulled back in the slightest way possible to where his lips were still touching Julian's but he could still speak at the same time. "Jules.. y-you know you don't have to kiss me just to appease me.. right?" Yet, Julian's thumbs massaging against his hip bones caused him to arch his body against Julian's on instinct and his hands remained on either side of Julian's face.
Julian breathed deep when Andrew pulled back, not entirely worried that he was going to be rejected because of the response he was getting in the kiss but not quite ready to stop just yet. The question, or what was more of a statement, shouldn't have caught him off guard but it kind of did. He swallowed and shook his head, so slightly that his lips hardly moved from Andrew's. "Maybe I'm appeasing me, too," he breathed, slipping a hand around to the small of his back and holding Drew firmly against him. He pressed another kiss to Andrew's lips, soft and short, followed by another and another before he kissed him longer and much more fervently.
Andrew kept his eyes locked on Julian's and knew that his question took him aback a bit, but the answer to it was too important for Andrew to be anxious about it. So, he remained calm while he waited on Julian's response, gently brushing his thumb across the other man's cheek. He caught the barely visible shake of Julian's head and brought his hands down to his shoulders before letting out a small sigh of relief, only to be kissed again by Julian and the other man's lips suddenly tasted even sweeter. One of his hands slipped into Julian's hair, his fingers gently carding through his short, brown locks. Andrew returned every short, soft kiss and tried not to melt away in Julian's arms as the kiss became much more passionate.
Julian had wondered what it would be like to not only kiss a man, but to kiss Andrew for years, so his answer wasn't just about appeasing his curiosity but more so appeasing his desire to look for something further with Andrew. He'd always been too afraid to see him besides anything than his friend and his best friend's brother but he really wanted to know what it would be like to be with him. And he was pleasantly, enormously surprised by how great it felt to kiss him and have his hands on Julian's chest and in his hair. He'd always had a very strong thing going on with his hair - he loved having it played with and pulled. Almost more than sex itself. So, with the fingers tangled in it he shivered and tilted his head back more than it had been to reach Andrew's lips, his own lips parting. His grip on Andrew's hip tightened so his fingernails dug in and he pressed himself closer against him.
Andrew couldn't say for certain, but something about the way Julian kissed him and reacted to kissing him and that one statement about wanting to appease himself as well made Andrew feel validated. For so long, he felt like he'd been imagining the lingering looks he'd sometimes catch Julian giving him, or the long hugs, or the borderline flirty banter. But this situation told him that it was all real. He hadn't just made it up. It wasn't just wishful thinking. And he honestly couldn't be happier about being wrong. Julian's reaction to his hand in his hair was just about the sexiest thing Andrew had ever witnessed. It was even more difficult now to not tiptoe outside the line and take this a little further than just kissing. But Julian was new at this, so Andrew knew he needed to take it slow. Still, he couldn't stop himself from kissing at Julian's neck as he tilted his head back, nipping and sucking ever so lightly, careful not to leave any marks despite his possessiveness already starting to kick in.

ANDREW SMYTHE
“Of course I came, baby. You asked me to,” was what immediately came from Andrew’s mouth, without a second thought. However, after seeing how disheveled, sluggish, and dazed Julian looked, worry really started to set in, even more than when he was on his way there. He managed a small smile back at his boyfriend though, because even like this, Julian was still a wonderful sight to see. Especially in a time like this. He may have had to be strong for his anxious boyfriend in the moment, but he felt just as distraught and heartbroken by this news. He just tried not to show it, like always. Andrew put other people first at all times – it was just how he thrived. Healthy? No, certainly not. But it made Andrew feel okay, at least for the time being.
He placed one hand on Julian’s hip, partially to steady him since he looked like he could topple over any second, and partially because he just needed to touch him. He reached up with his other hand and gently brushed his thumb across Julian’s cheek, slowly leaning in to give him a feather-light kiss. His eyes closed as he kissed him very softly and sweetly, not wanting to accidentally do anything to make Julian more upset and then pulled away. There were tons of thoughts swimming around Andrew’s mind but in that moment, the most prominent one was, “Gosh, I love this man.” He gently moved Julian aside so he could quietly close the door behind himself and gingerly ease Julian over to the bed. “It’s going to be alright,” He muttered softly, yet as confidently as he could muster. “We’re going to be okay, I promise. I would never let anything bad happen to you, Jules.”
JULIAN HUMMEL
As soon as Andrew was inside and Julian felt his hands on his skin, he melted against him, wrapping his arms around his waist lazily and burying his head against his shoulder. “Thank you for coming,” he said in a loose, singular toned voice. Having him there made Julian feel as safe as he possibly could under the circumstances that they were going to have to deal with. It didn’t take convincing to follow Andrew to his bed - not only because he was light and easy to move around or that he really did love everything about his mattress and curling up on it. But he was light on his feet, letting Andrew guide him completely. It didn’t mean that he wasn’t strong enough to hold on and bring his boyfriend down with him though.
“Are you okay?” he asked, tugging his blankets up around them and draping his arm back around Andrew’s waist. He knew that Andrew was the superhero, having to be there for everyone all the time and not looking out for himself enough. But Julian wanted to be there for him - be the person that he could rely on when he needed to let go of whatever was on his mind. He closed his eyes tight before opening them again and letting his vision focus on Andrew’s face. “Talk to me,” he sighed softly, running his hand up his side, careful but pushing up the fabric of his shirt to make the skin-on-skin contact that he was craving. “I know. But I’m scared.”

ANDREW SMYTHE
There were so many emotions that flooded Andrew’s mind when he realized the results of the election and none of them were positive. And yet, he said nothing when he was told. He was literally shocked into silence. He hadn’t tracked the results on TV like he normally would have during an election, because this time, it was far too nerve wracking for him to watch. So, he was informed via a friend on the same hall as him. And there was nothing that Andrew could say in the moment. A lot he wanted to say, but nothing he could actually bring himself to verbalize. So a simple shake of his head and deep, painstaking sigh was all he could offer his friend.
It was around then that he’d gotten the message from Julian and before he’d even opened it, he got a sinking feeling in his stomach that told him something was wrong. Reading it merely confirmed that and he quickly threw on a shirt and a pair of sweatpants as he hauled ass out of his room and towards Julian’s. Taking a deep breath when he arrived, knowing seeing any kind of panic on his face would only make his boyfriend’s worse, he knocked on the door and patiently waited for an answer.
JULIAN HUMMEL
The election day as a whole was stressful, more-so than he’d expected since it was the first that he’d ever been able to vote in. It seemed like everyone and everything was on edge, which didn’t help much with the anxiety he already had. So, Julian had made a point of taking just a little bit extra in the morning to help him stay chill as the events of the day would unfold. And it helped as he stood in line to vote and listened to the hecklers, on the ride back on the Link to campus, and when he finally settled in with his laptop to watch the results of the election unfold.
At first, he was relatively optimistic. And it had been great having Kalvin over to bitch about the Cheeto and eat Mac n’ Cheese. But as the night grew later and things started to look more bleak, his emotions started getting overwhelming and unmanageable. It was easy enough to take more pills and try to dull the world, but it wasn’t setting in as quickly as he’d have liked - starting to panic as the numbers wavered in favor of the worst possible option. He’d just had the courage to tell anyone that he was into guys and wanted to be with Andrew, and now the nation was proving his biggest fears right and throwing him right back in the nailed up closet that he’d always been. The timing really couldn’t be more perfect.
His breathing became much more shallow and his head dizzy as he waited for Andrew to come over. It was late, he was tired, and he’d taken much more of his pills than he should have. He blinked away the terrifying images floating around in front of his eyes when he heard the knock at the door. Julian moved to the door, sluggish and dizzy, pulling the door open and leaning against it. “Hey, Drew,” he said, the corners of his lips turning up into a small smile. “You came.”
ANDREW: Yeaaaah. Ha. I know it's weird, but I get like this when I'm in a relationship. Sorry, I can quit it if you don't like it. And just call you, like, normal names... But yes, you're absolutely right. It's more than just a hookup with you, obviously, so I can be okay if we just chill. Like, actual chilling, not Netflix and chilling. :P
JULIAN: I didn't say I hated it. It's just pretty damn hilarious. Netflix and no chill.
ANDREW: Ooh, how poetic. I honestly didn't know you were such a romantic until you started romancin' me. I'm very pleasantly surprised.
ANDREW: Yeah? Then where am I going with it? Aww, does my baby missss me? Heh. Okay, okay, you little cuddle bunny. I'm outside your door~
JULIAN: Good.
JULIAN: I'm fulla surprises.
JULIAN: You make the weirdest fuckin' nicknames, number one. But basically you haven't had the love with it and I'm not saying we're in love or anything like that but we might be at some point. There's feelings that aren't just about bonin' and that's why you're okay, right? You can you just come in, I didn't lock it or anything.
ANDREW: OHP, bested by my own nephew. Fair enough. I'll gladly be behind him on the list lol. I'd even settle for being behind Chris too. Bros before hoes and all that~
ANDREW: Good. Glad we're on the same page.
ANDREW: There's really no need to worry about me getting antsy about not having sex. Yes, I'm used to getting it but it's also the /only/ thing I'm used to getting. Being with you is different because it's a whole... other thing. I can't really explain it in depth over text. Just don't worry, okay? I'll see you in like 20 seconds.
JULIAN: I mean, I'd rather not put anyone on any kind of rating system cause that's not really fair, ya know? You're both super important, it's just in different ways.
JULIAN: Same book, same page, same sentence.
JULIAN: I think I'm gettin' where you're goin' with this but I'm starting to get antsy as well as cold. The heating in here is trash and blankets really only do so much.
ANDREW: Not necessarily that you give him comic books, just the thought of you two fanboying together about all the dorky shit you're both into. Makes me smile.
ANDREW: I was /kidding/, babe. I know you're not ready for that yet. What, you thought that the teasing was gonna stop because we're together now? Oh ho ho, nooo~ You're in for a rude awakening if that's what you thought.
ANDREW: You're rambling again, baby. Heh. I can wait, don't worry. I know I seem like I'm obsessed with sex, and hell, I might be, but I'm just as content with cuddling and kisses. Especially since I know that when we do... get there, it's gonna be something really special for both of us. I'm totally okay with you setting the pace for us.
JULIAN: Well, he is my favorite Smythe. He's got the best taste in superheroes around.
JULIAN: No, I'm well aware. It'd be weird if you didn't.
JULIAN: Okay. That's relatively reassuring. I know you wouldn't like. Push it. I also know how much you're used to getting it, so I guess I'm just kind of worried? I don't know. Don't worry about it, it'll be fine. Just hurry over cause it's gettin' cold in here and I need some of that ridiculous body heat you've got all stored up.
