Got bored and decided to write a visualizer in processing. Then ran Neelix - Human People (Mix) through it, which I downloaded from soundcloud. Recorded it with OBS, and this is the result!

Recently a reporter asked me how it felt to be returning to the original ground of Woodstock for Mysteryland festival. It caught me off guard a bit and I had to take a moment to think about it.
Electronic Music is having a moment. And we are living in it.

Do a short response on this and/or the “Creative people ” article. Be prepared to discuss “muddles” and “cliches.” as written about here.
I found the discussion of meta-rules interesting, but only to a point. If one continues to extrapolate game by game, rule system by rule system, eventually one is forced to conclude "logic" as the only rules. But of course, that is itself slippery, as logic has been defined many times by many different people. However, there are a fundamental set of logical rules that could be universally agreed upon, as they are true by definition. Without those rules, discussions would become chaotic. Not forced to adhere to standard conditional statement conventions, discussions would never reach conclusions of any fruit, aside from the journey. In that sense, I would argue that any conversation adhering to the rules of logic ought be considered a game, where a conclusion is necessary. Conversely, any discussion disregarding the rules of argumentation seems more closely linked to play; the discussion ends when it ends, with no defined winners, losers, conclusion, or goal.
How unique are you? Latanya Sweeney of Harvard set up this site so you can see how identifiable (or not) you are given three pieces of seemingly innocuous information. (From American Scientist Magazine, March 2014).
Big data is pretty scary. I was uniquely identifiable (about 1 match) just based on my birthday, gender, and zip.
Link for this tutorial was impossible to find anywhere on tumblr, had to resort to just google searching for "cv.jit tutorial" to find it again. Luckily I'd already been there once, so was able to find it just by the purple link.
Bruce Sterling Response
Bruce Sterling mentioned John Perry Barlow's "A Declaration of the Independence of Cyberspace," which is something I'd heard of before, but never taken the time to read or properly familiarize myself with. So I decided to start looking around, and immediately found this: https://projects.eff.org/~barlow/Declaration-Final.html. I read through the declaration, and was immediately struck by this passage: "You are terrified of your own children, since they are natives in a world where you will always be immigrants. Because you fear them, you entrust your bureaucracies with the parental responsibilities you are too cowardly to confront yourselves. In our world, all the sentiments and expressions of humanity, from the debasing to the angelic, are parts of a seamless whole, the global conversation of bits. We cannot separate the air that chokes from the air upon which wings beat." This declaration was written nearly 20 years ago, yet this is exactly how the NSA and the US government have been acting as of late. A similarly striking statement is "These laws would declare ideas to be another industrial product," which is again exactly what has been happening as of late. The declaration of the independence of cyberspace was intended as a framework and guideline for the way the internet should be run, and although it has no true authority, the values and ideals it holds true are quite appealing. The declaration points out that governments have no true authority over cyberspace, because it doesn't exist within the confines of physical reality. Not only that, but governments shouldn't have any sort of authority over cyberspace, because that's the only way to preserve the free, equal, connective nature of the Internet and cyberspace.
It's a bit of a copout, but the wikipedia article( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/A_Declaration_of_the_Independence_of_Cyberspace) actually has some interesting info, detailing that it was written in response to the US telecommunications act of 1996, which was a major stepping zone in violating net neutrality. The wikipedia article also notes that Barlow came back in 2004 saying he was optimistic, and that over the years he's gotten "older and smarter," which I find intriguing and disheartening. If getting older and smarter means losing passion and optimism for the net and its neutrality, then I hate to see what the future holds, because that's all any of us are going to be doing. Complacency with regards to internet privacy violations and the destruction of net neutrality will only lead to more dire consequences.

mixing a destroid song through little bits synth kit
mixing a destroid song through little bits synth kit
After playing with the little bits i decided it was high time I had my own way to play on the computer. I set out to make something similar to little bits, but decided that I wanted something with a hell of a lot more flexibility. To me, the first step of that flexibility is the ability to zoom in on a specific sample instead of just playing the input. It took a long time, but this allows someone to import a media file (for some reason mp3 wasn't working very well for me, but FLAC works perfectly which is what most of my library is anyways), and then pull samples from it. Right now there's only handling for a single sample, but adding extra buffers shouldn't be a problem. Now that I can pull samples dynamically from a tune, remixing individual pieces will be a lot easier. Also, since I've already loaded the samples into a buffer, modifying the samples with oscillators, envelopes, and various effects should be pretty straight forward.
