death without ceremony: one of my issues with kimetsu no yaiba

yeah, okay, fuck it. a while ago i made this post, where i praised the way the kny narrative treats villains. now that we’re coming to the end of the arc and to the end of the manga, i’m gonna talk about something i don’t like about it: the way the narrative treats our heroes. 

kimetsu no yaiba is a story that makes it very clear from the beginning that anyone can die. while i do tend to avoid this concept in stories, it’s not a terrible thing - when it is done well. at first, it worked for me, but somewhere along the line, it became one of my Issues™ with the story (along with… several others lmao). this is long, so i’ll put it under the cut. there’s a tldr at the end, don’t worry. definitely very spoiler heavy, so watch out if you’re not caught up!
