i have recently realized that life and love are precious. therefore, i shall never write a sad poem again oh yeah
one leaf speaking autumn.
a hundred leaves answering summer.
I made up a graphic of an older poem. Knowing the Blues appears in the collection A Poet's Day, available in print or as free ebook from arachispress.com
I am sort of over writing about love but I want no part in everything else
The world shifts slightly as I walk until I just might be where I always imagined
I’d belong at some point in the future smelling a river on the city air whose real name I don’t know
unlike yours unlike yours
and when the light changes I miss the time I was always casting spells though sadness gripped me
tight, so tight every breath had grief in it. It’s me, I was away I was the one who couldn’t be had
unlike you unlike you
I promised myself so many times I would stop chasing altogether and just let the moon come to me
with the tide. But I flung silver nets as if my incantations were still
yours and you
reached under the sea to take those unearthly ripples to me.
There is this rippled circus glass
Between the world and me
I lay and wait for clouds to pass
Wait to clearly see
My hands are callused from the fire
My nerves are torn in two
I've reached inside of my own pyre
& searched for something true
I am a mirrored imitation
A shattered version of the whole
A train that misses every station
A body leaking out a soul
I've felt the way that it can sting
When it all becomes too much
& so I dampen everything—
I shrink away from touch

Breaking Bonds
Some bonds will stretch accommodating time distance While others are brittle rejecting absence priorities But even the most flexible gentle lasting Will snap when neglected.

Do you ever think of the play we witnessed in the woods that night?
Sliding music made it seem not impossible that the players danced without their feet touching the ground.
Do you remember strange indigo lights
telling us some unknown way lay home?
We took such care only to drink the elder wine we carried from safety.
Scents that soothed the noise of the world,
a prickle in our palms, a look –
when it all went away and the darkness returned and all we could do was light candles
for hope for answers
I truly wanted to make
love
to you in that abandoned place.
I’ll let my teeth rot.
I’ll lie down and stay down,
the walls will stay still
And the divet in my mattress
Will be the same size as my body.
All curled up, insect in nature.
Just waiting for
Rapid ageing
Days the span of years.
I’ll stay super-glued and sticky.
I’ll let the ants in.
I’ll let the woodlouse build and die
In the divet I made.
I’ll let me rot so they can feed
On what nutrition I’ve had stored
Like a bear in hibernation.
A unjust hunger that’s keeping me here
With a perpetual stomachache.
I’ve been here long enough
That my teeth will rot.
The insects aren’t going to save them
They’ll take everything else.
So I will rot,
But my cavities will stay.
