She asked me,
with her almost light brown hair,
her sweet smile
and her uneasy stare,
how do people like you love?
I told her,
People like me love
with eyes closed
but with hands stretched wide open
with fingers like baskets
ready to catch
with blindfolded eyes
so I wont take a peak
I don’t want to see love
No, not even a glimpse
You don’t see love through closed doors
nor do you see it through glass windows
you’ll have to look at it straightly
and love is too complex if you stare at it
love is too blurry if you look too long
I’ve been told
That it’s like looking through a kaleidoscope
As it turns and turns endlessly
There’s too much colors
Too much hues
There’s just too much to see
Everytime you turn,
it’s a different fragment
you’ll keep on turning and turning
hoping you’ll see the same one again
but honey,
you’ll have seen enough to know what you’re looking for
so keep your eyes closed,
so when you’re on top of the Ferris wheel ride
and she points to stars
when she points to venus and mars
know that she points to herself
because she is made of what stars are made of
and not just stardust,
she is a burning light
she is a galaxy
a universe, too vast, too wide
she is your favorite star
keep your eyes closed
and tell her that
tell her,
that it’s okay to be blind
the bruises fall off eventually
but the only way we are going to feel love
is if we refuse to see hurt
so keep your eyes closed
but your hands wide open
so you can feel
you can embrace
so you know what it feels like
to fall without ever hesitating
to let go of the cliff
so keep your hands wide open
so when she sits across you
and doodles poetry on your palms
stretch your fingers
let the lines on your palms free
so you can catch everything
so you can catch the snowflakes that she draws
the lightning feeling in her chest
the sounds of her voice
the metaphors in her poetry
or if you’re lucky,
her
be ready to catch her
because she might decide to love you up close
she might decide to fall, or fly,
or to crumble in your arms
and the only way you’ll catch her
is if you stop being afraid
you don’t have to see the sunset
or the blood in her cheeks
you don’t have to see the side walk
or the valleys in her bones
feel everything in your arms
I told her,
Just love with your eyes closed
and your hands stretched wide open
