PSA: Google and Autism Speaks are collaborating to create a genomic database on autism.

Yes, you read that right.

On the eve of Autism Acceptance Month, Google, the most widely used search engine, is teaming up with Autism Speaks to collect and send data to researchers in order to essentially “eliminate” autism. I don’t think I can understate how eugenicist this is. It is genocide by definition.

It is imperative that we speak up about this. Every autistic person (including myself) know that Autism Speaks is a hate group in all but name.

There’s not much to say about this except it is VERY wrong.

why are you bringing me being jewish into this, my friend? or are you just antisemitic? this debate has nothing to do with religion whatsoever - the only way it ties in is through subverting the typical idea of a christian redemption arc, because the christian idea of redemption is inherently flawed and if you INSIST on direct punishment being the only way for someone to be redeemed, then glimmer should be punished too, because she attempted to destroy the planet and detonate the heart. scorpia should be punished for her part in the war. entrapta should be punished for her part in the war, as well. so should hordak - he’s killed thousands more people than catra has (and she didn’t even kill angella in the first place, so please actually watch the show before you pull takes out of your ass), as well as headed a war for decades and kidnapped and raised children as soldiers.

and as i’ve said above, catra didn’t kill angella, because angella isn’t dead. it’s been stated multiple times, both throughout the show and by the crew, that angella did not die in the portal, and that, if the length of the show allowed for it, they would have brought her back. if you want another point on top of that, as a direct result of opening the portal, catra: 1) dies 2) dies again 3) is kidnapped by an intergalactic warlord and chipped, electrocuted, and killed

you want her to be... punished... more? because that will suddenly make amends? because catra being punished is going to fix everything suddenly? because catra shouldn’t get to grow as a person and heal and get to fix her mistakes, i guess? how is making catra suffer again for something we KNOW she constantly thinks about going to help?

because by that logic, glimmer should be punished too. entrapta should be punished too. scorpia should be punished too. hordak should be punished too. hell, so should lonnie, kyle, and rogelio. so should 

punishment is normally carried out to prevent someone from doing the same action again. so what is that going to do? how is that going to help? how is that going to ‘make catra a better person’? ‘hehe just so she doesn’t go pulling any levers again’

You know what’s awesome about SPOP and ironic about these takes? The show criticizes the idea that redemption is only through punishment by having it be a motto OF THE VILLAIN! Prime’s “all beings must suffer to become pure” is a direct correlation to the Christian idea of guilt and punishment being essential to being a good person. Believe that if you want, I don’t care, but other religions have different ways of going about forgiveness and growth. As OP argues, these ways may even be better.

And yet, people like anon side with Prime. They believe all beings must suffer to become pure and they push the idea that Catra hasn’t suffered enough, just like Prime does. SPOP shows us that suffering doesn’t make us better. It tells us that fixing your mistakes and showing you’ve improved through actions is better than just repenting. But some people miss that message entirely and would rather cling to their own ideas than listen to what the show is trying to say. Sad.

this, the theme of the show is literally about punishment not being the way to redemption. yet half the fandom thinks catra needed to suffer even more to make up for (whatever since she didn't actually kill angella, angella heroically sacrificed herself so don't ya devalue her sacrifice by making her a victim, she isn't) despite already having scarified her life willingly to save glimmer. what more do people want from her? Does anyone genuinely believe that someone who has been punished and abused all her life is going to get better by being punished again? half the fandom are closet shadow weavers, not gonna lie.
