it’s all fun and games until you remember that stray kids make their music to share their messages with the world, because they have something to say, and more often than not this means that the things they talk about in their songs aren’t just relatable for relatability’s sake it’s relatable because it’s something they’ve experienced

insomnia’s a song talking about the restless thoughts that keep them up at night and even follow them into their dreams. it’s really emotionally powerful, especially in the latter parts when the mood of the song turns from resignation to anguish. when chan goes from softly singing “i can’t sleep” to practically yelling it.

insomnia is almost like a look into a part of their lives beyond what they show us on camera and on stage. “i can’t sleep” are probably three words stray kids have probably said to each other a lot, they probably don’t even have to explain why anymore. they all just Get It.

finally, that screenshot. i’ve watched the insomnia stage five times and i’ll never stop being blown away by chan in those last few frames. he does the bare binimum and yet the amount of emotion you can feel from him is astounding. it really shows how far chan has come since the survival show when jyp had told him he needed to have more charisma because his stage presence here… there aren’t enough words to describe how powerful it is.
