Who is ready for some Gaunt and Winters families lore?
Their rivalry goes all the way back to Salazar Slytherin, when the Helina’s daughter was set to marry him but left and fell in love with Dwight Winters thus starting a feud. Dwight never agreed with Salazar’s views especially when to comes to pureblood and they would constantly argue especially when Hogwarts was created. He was happy to see children learn magic regardless of their blood status. It is rumored that they had a dueling battle that resulted in both being seriously injured (that was never confirmed nor denied but the scars they both have is confirmation enough).
Throughout the ages both families would try to find ways to cut each other off which could mean financially or by other drastic measures (The Winters believe the Gaunts are too dangerous to live while the Gaunts feel the Winters are too “muggle lover to be a real pureblood”) Sheldon Winters (Jennifer’s grandfather) was known to find the muggles that the Gaunts captured and rescue them until his dying breath, he died when Ominis’s grandfather used the killing curse. Obviously he did it because it was the right thing to do but also he love seeing their faces when they realize he isn’t there to play around.
Jennifer Winters knew of the Gaunts for she was tormented by them for not having a mother and thanking her for her mother’s death (she was really little when she last saw them) When she told there would be a Gaunt at hogwarts with her, she was terrified to say the least (being bullied by him was the least of her problems) and their first interaction was him yelling at her didn’t exactly help that, even though she couldn’t deny he was quite handsome.
Ominis also knew a Winters would be joining and he was told by his family to “end this family line” obviously he couldn’t hurt a fellow student (he even admired how their family line always had good morals) but he didn’t realize the new girl hanging around Sebastian was the Winters but so he felt kinda bad when he realized their first interaction was him yelling at her but was impressed by her loyalty and not ratting out Sebastian.
