JIMMY: Jensen is unbelievable, really. He really is an editor's actor. Like if you were going to pick someone, you'd pick him…. I think your [professional] tree is important, where your lineage comes from, and I come from Ron Spang, who was Clint Eastwood's editor, and Ron was all about continuity, so that was very important to me especially as I first start editing because that's what you know, that's who you learned from, and Jensen is that actor. He memorizes his lines based on marks: I know by this time when I hit that mark I should be saying this line. I know when I pick up this pencil--and he'll do it every take--'cause that's how he's literally memorized the lines.

ROB: And that is a talent because how can you do that and keep it spontaneous.

JIMMY: So then you're free to go anywhere as an editor, because if he's hitting that line, I don't have to worry about continuity. But if they're not hitting that line, or if that's not their thing, if they're just trying to do a performance and they're not worried about the space, they get to their mark but it's not at the same time every time--then you get boxed in sometimes, because you're like, I want to use this camera movement or I want to cut here, but I can't because in this take, you know, that's when you start painting yourself into a corner.
