description: itâs been five years since the Miroh Heights murder cases came to a close â and five long, bittersweet years since youâd caught a glimpse of Han Jisung. Things in Miroh Heights have changed drastically since then â but when Felix sets you up on another blind date in an attempt to help you move on from the past, you realise that, once again, youâve signed up for much more than you bargained for.
You turned to wave back at the little girl who had called your name, her round eyes visibly bright from the waiting room of your clinic. Seven years old, front teeth just beginning to come in. One of her hands clutched a half-unwrapped lollipop as her mother held onto the other.Â
The first time you had seen them, the child had been unwilling to speak â bullied relentlessly at school, her mother had informed you through a veil of desperate tears â but now, her laughter filled the warm air, traumas that had once been etched into a too-young face already beginning to heal and fade.
Evening sunshine warmed your cheeks the moment you stepped out of the buildingâs doors, a light breeze rustling the papers in your hand as you quickly tucked them into your bag. âFive years of graduate school hasnât made you more organised,â Felix often teased you, and you would smack his shoulder in retaliation.
Five years hadnât changed your friendship in the slightest, eitherâand you had to admit you were beyond grateful for that.
As always, the city around you was humming with life: evening rush hour, with people darting here and there, frantically flagging down taxis and catching their buses. Usually, on days like these, you should have been hopping into the first cab home and collapsing like a corpse as soon as you reached your apartment. But today, you remembered with a sigh, was not going to be one of those days.Â

â notes: HELLO! Itâs been awhile, and I am so sorry for my lack of posting and writing. A lot of stuff has happened, from me graduating Uni early (whoo!), to a few deaths in my family, life has really gotten to me. It makes me very happy to see so many people still liking and reading my stories though, so thank you for all the kind comments and tags! I have a few stories in the works including a spin off of Soulmate! Until next time! (I rewrote a part of the ending and wanted to start off fresh with this so I hope you donât mind!)

You smiled triumphantly, finally finishing the last stretch of your midterm paper, stretching your arms out in front of you in your cramped work space. It was nearing Spring Break and that meant the amount of school work was becoming borderline atrocious. Luckily, you planned well enough and werenât experiencing the detrimental study cram like your roommate Irene.Â
âIrene c'mon you have to take a break!â You stood up, walking to her side of the dorm which somehow was even more destroyed than yours. Irene groaned as she rubbed her face, leaning back into her chair.
âYeah a break would be niceâŠâ she mumbled, her eyes red from lack of sleep. You smiled as you pulled her up trying to think of somewhere the two of you could go for a small break.Â
âThereâs that new cafe nearby! The one Seonghwa from Psych works at?â You offered, gently tugging on your shoes near the door. Irene nodded as she followed suit, tugging on a light jacket. One of your friends from psych, Seonghwa, and a gaggle of his rowdy friends all somehow landed themselves a job at a new cafe by campus.Â
âYou and Irene should totally come! Drinks on me.â He had offered one day.
The walk was short and sweet, the trees on campus starting to bloom gorgeous blossoms and the light sunny air put a pep back in both you and Ireneâs steps. The cafe was a modern looking place, flowers adorning the outside patio. You also noticed the abundance of well dressed girls that filled the place as well. Shaking your head, you pulled the door open for both you and Irene, the bell above alerting the bustling baristas to your presence.
âWelcome to Cafe- Oh! Y/n and Irene! Welcome!â A boyish laugh sounded from behind the barista bar as you spotted Seonghwaâs tall figure operating the espresso machine.Â
âHey Seonghwa!â You waved back as did Irene, filing into the line to the counter. From your spot, you could also spot familiar faces of his friends, Hongjoong his red haired best friend, and Yeosang from your literature class. You could understand now why so many girls were filling the small cafe, everyone here was absolutely gorgeous. You finally reached the counter where another boy leaned, making conversation with every customer, his figure so tall he had to lean down to operate the ipad for orders. Your heart sped up a little as you gave a wave to him, a large smile breaking his face.Â
God he was hot.
âHey your Y/n right? Your friends with Seonghwa?â He asked, cocking his head in a boyish manner as he spoke to you. You nodded a bit lost for words, âYeah and youâre...youâre San right?â You winced, hoping you got it right. He nodded happily and grinned, âThat's me! Now what could I get you?â He asked with a sly wink. You fumbled for a quick order, something along the lines of an iced latte. As you reached for your card, San reached a hand out to stop you, his large hands surprisingly soft.
âNo please itâs on me.âÂ
You went to argue but he quickly passed the order to Seonghwa who shrugged and motioned you and Irene to a nearby vacant table. You and Irene quickly took your seats at the table, trying to ignore the glances of jealous girls at your interactions with the guys.Â
âThey sure have a crowd going.â You mused, smiling as you spotted some of the waiters entertaining groups of girls. Irene nodded in agreement, her eyes particularly locked on the back on Yeosangâs head. You nudged her and she bashfully laughed it off, the two of you getting lost in conversation before a cough broke you both away. Again, San stood before you, grinning as he held two iced beverages he carefully placed on the table. You both thanked him gratefully as he kneeled down, placing his elbows on the table.
âSo ladies what's the plan for today?â
It seemed to be in the cafeâs style that all the baristas and servers would make small talk with the customers, which you didnât mind of course. You and San unexpectedly went back and forth, travelling from topic to topic. You found yourself getting lost in conversation with each other enough so that Irene interrupted the two of you.Â
âItâs getting a bit late isn't it Y/n? We still have some studying to do.â Irene said smugly, sliding her jacket back on her shoulders. Your eyes grew wide as you glanced at your phone, noticing you had been talking for a good while now.Â
âOh shoot yeah, sorry San, I didnât mean to keep you from your work-â
âNo itâs no problem I had fun.â He brushed off your apology with a smile. You and Irene quickly gathered your belongings to leave, giving the baristas one last wave before exiting.
âWait Y/n!â You heard a call from inside, stopping you in the middle of the door.
âHm?â You asked, turning back to see a grinning San behind the counter.
âI work Mondays, Wednesdays, and the weekends. Come see me again!â
The hoots from the other boys behind the counter was enough to make your face turn a slight shade of red,
âWeâll see!â you called back before closing the door behind you.Â
After large study periods and quite a few tears, midterms passed as quickly as they began. The refreshing feeling of knowing you had an entire week to yourself was pure bliss to say the least. Irene had planned a trip with a few of her friends, and of course, felt terrible you wanted to stay on campus.
âY/n c'mon it would be so much fun!â
You shook your head, âItâs okay Irene go have fun! Iâm going to just relax here and do absolutely nothing.â you admitted with a content grin. She shrugged, and before you knew it, you were left alone. With so much spare time on your hands, you weren't sure what you wanted to start with. You had a few books you wanted to read, some recipes you wanted to try...or, you could also swing by Sanâs cafe as well. It had been awhile since you first visited and you couldn't deny the lingering effect he had on your mind. His black hair, smile, the way he rolled his sleeves up when making drinks. A blush stained your cheeks as you shook your head,Â
âHere you are, thirsting over some guy you met once.â
But hey, one visit wouldnât hurt right, and it just so happened to be the weekend.Â
Packing up a small tote bag with a book, your notebook, and a few pens, you headed out down the scenic route to the cafe. The flowers were even more in bloom than the last time you were there, gentle white daisies and yellow poppies. There was another tall man conversing with a family on the front patio of the cafe. He noticed you walk up and gave an energetic wave.
âHey your Y/n right?â He smiled, a cute golden retriever air about him. You nodded, adjusting the bag on your shoulder, âYeah, your in my stats class right? Let's see... Yunho?âÂ
Yunho nodded happily, a large dopey grin on his face, âThat's me! To be honest you came in on the perfect day-â Yunho politely excused himself from the family to make his way closer to you, your height differences astonishing this close.Â
âWhat do you mean-â You were about to ask before Yunho hushed you, glancing back towards the cafe and pushing you behind the cafe's hedge, out of the window's line of sight. He surveyed the front of the store before blowing out a breath.
âWhew alright he didnât see us.â He said relieved.
âWho didn't see us?â You asked, also trying to peer your head over the bush.
âSan. Ever since you came in, he has been looking forward to seeing you, and well, itâs been awhile since your last visit and heâs kind of depressed about it. Today has been the worst, but as luck would have it, youâre here!â Yunho rushed out quickly, giving you a smile of encouragement. You were a bit confused to say the least, but also a bit surprised.Â
âHe wanted me to come back that bad? I thought he was just being nice-â
âSan is nice to everyone, which makes him pretty popular. But the way he stared at you from behind the counter said it all.â Yunho admitted. âIâve known him for awhile, and Iâve never seen him act like this. If you're not interested itâs totally fine I just wanted to let you know this will really make his day.â With a reassuring pat on the shoulder, Yunho went back to entertaining the guests on the patio, leaving you with a pounding heart. It would be a lie to say it didnât make you excited, you mean, you did find San very attractive and kind as well.Â
âLets just see how this goes..â
You walked back to the patio, opening the door gently, the bell alerting your arrival. There was no line like usual, so you had a clear shot from the door to the counter. San was behind the counter again as well, but his back was turned as he was finishing up some drinks for the few other customers inside. You approached the counter with a smile as you waited patiently for him to finish. He quickly turned around, not entirely too focused on who it was before him, but rather typing quickly on the Ipad. His voice was not in his usual tone as he started, âThank you for waiting, what can I get started for you?â
You laughed brightly before moving yourself closer to the counter, his face being a few heads higher than your own so you could look up into his eyes,Â
âHi San.â
San jumped back with a yelp, a few towers of paper cups falling with his flail, âY/N? What are you doing here? Today? You showed up-er- here wow uh..â He stumbled over his words, a bright red flush dusting his cheeks. You couldnât help the laugh that trickled out of your throat.Â
âI finally finished my midterms, sorry I wasnât able to make it in sooner.â You apologized.Â
San shook his head quickly, âNo no no donât apologize itâs totally fine-â his hands nervously ran through his hair, pushing it back away from his forehead.Â
âIâm just glad-â he stopped to clear his throat, âIâm just glad you came back in.â
You smiled at that. San had a way of being so earnest, even at times like this.
âThis time I am paying for my drink Mr.â you warned, already pulling out your card. Sanâs usual grin graced his features again as he held his hands up in surrender, âFine you got me this time.âÂ
You ordered another iced drink, and took a table near a large window within the shop, the sunlight not too harsh yet still warm against your skin. You heard footsteps approaching and you grinned, but looked curious when rather than San bringing your drink, it was Yeosang.Â
âYeosang, hi.â You smiled. Yeosang gave you a polite smile as well, placing your drink down on the table as well as a warmed pastry.
âSan got called into the back for a while, so he wanted me to bring this to you since he canât come over and talk for awhile.â Yeosang said in his gentle voice. You laughed a bit at the situation, picturing in your mind no doubt Sanâs pouting face.Â
âThank you very much Yeosang. Oh, and Irene wanted me to tell you she says hi.â The startled look on his face was perfect as he quickly excused himself back to the counter. You smiled and shook your head, pulling out your book to start your reading. Chapters in, you noticed the chair in front of you being pulled out. A tired San deflated once in the chair, allowing his head to hang back. You winced at the stiffness in your joints as you set your book down, watching the tired barista.Â
âRough day?â you asked sympathetically, placing your chin on your hand. San shook his head as he sat up, leaning onto the table with his elbows. âJust busy. Weâre training some new hires, so I have a lot to do.â He sighed but his smile easily came back.Â
âBut I am glad you came by today.â He grinned. Sanâs eyes alway crinkled when he smiled like this, and he always had a laugh on his lips, in a way, you were a bit jealous he could uphold such an attitude. You both made small conversation, enjoying the time you guys finally had together. Before you knew it, the sun was beginning to set, casting the cafe in an orange hue.
Seonghwa emerged from the back, spotting you two chatting away at the table, âSorry to interrupt but, itâs closing time guys!â He smiled, obviously eager to leave. Your eyes widened as you realized indeed, you were the last one in the establishment.Â
âOh my god Iâm so sorry I didnât realize-â
Seonghwa shook his head, âNo youâre good. In fact since San was supposed to help me close, Iâll just have him walk you back to your dorm instead. Iâd feel guilty just kicking you out like this.â
San whipped his head around, totally ecstatic over the fact one, he got to leave early, and two of course, walk you home.
âCâmon Y/n let's go!â He grinned, pulling your hand along with him. You laughed as you quickly collected your bag, giving a wave to Seonghwa.
The air outside was warm despite the night creeping in. You walked alongside San down the road to your university, an air of comfortable silence between you two.
âWhy did you start working at the coffee shop?â You asked.
âIt was always Seonghwaâs dream to have something like this, ever since we were in grade school. I just wanted to help make his dream..I donât know a reality I guess?â San admitted sheepishly, rubbing the back of his neck. You nodded, honestly in awe of such kind words.Â
âIâm sure he appreciates you very much.â You smiled up at him, causing him to turn away bashfully. He cleared his throat as he glanced back down at you, âWell I mean how about you? I want to know everything about you.â
The walk back to your dorm was filled with conversation with San, ranging from classes to hobbies and favorite foods. It was so easy to talk to him, you found yourself drawn into him with every word and you couldnât ignore the fluttering of your heart anytime he said your name. Before you knew it, your dorm was in sight.Â
âThanks again for walking me back. I appreciate San.â You smiled, toying with the strap of your bag.Â
âOf course! I didnât want you to walk alone.â San grinned, slipping his hands into his pockets. The air grew stagnant, and both of you fidgeted in the silence, not quite wanting your time together to end.Â
âY/n-â
âSan-â
The two of your stopped, realizing you talked over each other so easily before breaking into giggling grins.Â
âYou first.â San smiled.
âWell I just want you to know, I um...I really like hanging out with you!â You admitted, casting your eyes down to his shoes. âI really like hanging out with you, and I would like to keep hanging out with you. If you donât feel the same way though I totally understand-â
âCan I kiss you?â
You stopped, your eyes quickly scanning up from the floor to Sanâs face, the heat rushing to your cheeks.
âCan you what?â
San smiled, a boyish carefree smile, one that stirred butterflies in your stomach.
âCan I,â his hand found yours, holding it between the two of you, âkiss you?â
You felt yourself nodding before the words even escaped your mouth. San waited, his face only inches now form yours. His breath was shallow, and you found yourself a little giddy at how nervous he suddenly looked. He was only inches away.
âYes, San-â
You were cut off by a gentle sensation on your lips. It was soft and tentative, like he was holding himself back. Sanâs hand cupped your cheek and your own hand rose to his chest. He pulled back, his breath light on your face.Â
You could feel the heat rising to your cheeks as San chuckled, grabbing onto your wrist and pulling you into his chest, his arms wrapping around you so naturally.Â
âI really like hanging out with you too, Y/n.âÂ
Your face was pressed into his chest, the faint smell of coffee and pastries still lingering on him.Â
âBut..â You could feel San shifting, leaning down so his face was closer to yours, âIâd rather hang out with you as your boyfriend.âÂ
Your smile widened as you stared back at him, your hands softly travelling to hold his face. He gently leaned into your touch, his smile mirroring yours.Â
âIâd like that too.â You whispered back, your forehead resting against his. The two of you stayed like this, giggling and whispering between each other without care. Eventually San begrudgingly acknowledged he had to leave, but not without a few pouts.Â
âIâll see you soon yeah?â
You nodded, your fingers slowly drifting apart.
âIâll bring you breakfast tomorrow.â You smiled, earning a large grin from San. It only took him two brisk steps to be in front of you again while you laughed.Â
âSan you really gotta head home-â
âI just wanted to see you like this. One last time before I go.â
You raised an eyebrow at him.
âLike how?â You watched as his hand returned to your cheek, stroking it gently.Â
âIf you stick a knife in my back nine inches and pull it out six inches, thatâs not progress. The progress is healing the wound that the blow made. They wonât even admit the knife is there.â - Malcolm X
â notes: Hello friends. I am very sorry about my lack of posts. Iâve just been really lacking the motivation and will to write during these times. I actually only wrote this because a friend prompted me too, and itâs not the best but I wanted to just post something. Hope everyone is doing well these days.Â
The mafia life wasnât all black leather vests and bullets. Sometimes it was nights as simple as this. You stood happily in the small kitchen of your even smaller studio apartment, the skyline of the city twinkling through the windows. Soft music poured from your phone that laid face down on the counter as you hummed along, stirring the sauce on the stove. It wasnât cramped, but a comfortable clutter. Photos covered every square inch of the walls in your home along with art. Some of your favorites included a drunken selfie of you and your dearest friends, Hyungwon and Kihyun. Or the handwritten love note from your boyfriend, Changkyun.Â
âIâll love you forever and then some.â
Alongside it was another note from Changkyuns best friend Jooheon,
âHe loves me more than you xoxoxo bitch.â
The memories made you laugh. The lifestyle your friends lived was hard and rough, so they learned to appreciate the little moments, and taught you how as well. Of course, when you first met them, you had no idea what kind of lives they lived. You, Kihyun, Hyungwon, and Shownu all were in the same political science class, and became quick friends through group projects. From there, they introduced you to Jooheon and Changkyun. Both of them seemed hard to approach, but gradually, they warmed up to you. Changkyun became your partner in âcrimeâ so to speak, as both of you seemed to be connected by the hip. It was no surprise to the rest of the boys when you both started to date, but twitch the happiness, came harsh reality.Â
You found out about the mafia when your doorbell rang in the middle of the night. Panicked, you shot out of bed, alarmed as to who would disturb you so late. Glancing through the doorhole, your heart seemed to stop as you recognized the torn and battered face of your boyfriend, leaning dangerously into Jooheons arms. Ushering them inside, you managed to get Changkyuns laid out on your bed.Â
âHunny what happened?â You sobbed, holding onto Changkyuns hand and Jooheon rubbed your back reassuringly.Â
âHe wanted to keep it a secret as long as he could butâŠâ
You sniffled, looking up at Jooheon for an answer.
âChangkyuns family runs a sort of...business. One all of us are involved in.â
âWhat like a family business? Are you guys dealing drugs or something?â
Jooheon shook his head with a laugh, âNo no...well maybe sometimes. Itâs the mafia Y/n.â
Your eyes widened as you glanced at him back to Changkyun, whoâs breathing seemed a bit better now.Â
âI just...didnât know where else to take him. If you want us to leave I understand-â
âOf course not. Heâs my boyfriend. And you are my best friend. Iâll go get the first aid kit.â
Jooheon watched you quickly leave the room, a soft smile on his face.Â
âYou found a good one, Kyun.â
You returned to the room to find Jooheon passed out on the chair next to the bed, and a confused looking Changkyun sitting up.
âY/N..? How did I-â He glanced down at himself, bloody and battered as he stuttered, âI just got into a fight at the bar this is-â
Changkyuns eyes widened before casting his gaze down.
âIâm no good for you Y/nâŠâ
You huffed as you sat on the bed, carelessly pressing a cotton swab to a cut on his cheek, causing him to wince.Â
âYou're perfect for me Kyun. Donât ever doubt that. I will always, always, be here for you.â
Changkyun smiled softly as he leaned up a bit farther, his arms tightening around you to pull you in closer. You smiled and stroked his back softly, pretending to not hear his small sniffles and gasps as tears fell onto your shirt. Lifting his face to yours, you placed soft kisses on his face, gently avoiding his cuts and bruises.Â
âLet's get you cleaned up, hm?âÂ
That night was a few years ago. Since then, you became an active part in the mafia lifestyle with the boys, your home becoming a center base for them after particularly harsh days. Finally deciding the sauce was ready, you ladeled spoonfuls of it onto the plates of pasta, smiling as you heard the familiar rhythmic tapping of someone at the door.Â
âItâs open!â You called, placing plates for grabs on the counter.
A grumbling Hyungwon was the first to enter, luckily, not battered up. He gave a sleepy smile to you before taking a plate and sinking into the living room couch. Next was Kihyun and Shownu, both thankful for the food. Minhyuk, a new member of the team, was as lively as ever, placing a kiss of thanks onto your cheek despite the harsh cough of your boyfriend who was next to enter.
âIâm home.â Changkyun smiled, wrapping his arms around your waist as he pulled you in closer, placing a soft kiss to your lips. You smiled, leaning into his touch. Honestly, Changkyun definitely thought you were going to leave him the night you found out about him. Yet here you were, dressed in an adorable apron making him and his friends dinner. He loved you very much, though you always told him that you knew that.Â
The perfect moment was interrupted by a groan of disdain, Jooheon entering your home last.Â
âReally? In front of my pasta?â He groaned, taking his plate and sitting with the others. You couldn't help but laugh.
In your small apartment, the warmth of your closest friends and the love of your life was more important than anything else in this world.
what vibe even is this like victorian era farm boy running through the halls of the only school house in the entire town to meet with you in the basement where all the old books and desks are kept and the only source of sunlight on his freckled face is the tiny window at the top and his leather bound notebook is full of love letters and poems hell never have the courage to read aloud to you?
or is it just that 90s romeo aesthetic where he pens the smallest beauties he sees and compares them to the raging storm of love in his heart that eclipses through him every time he catches a glimpse of you through a car window or in passing at an extravagant event where both your families refuse to let you near each other but hed sacrifice it all to lay at the foot of your bed if thats what you asked him to do
What just happened on CNN? Im at work and so wasnât somewhere I could watch
Sure Iâll sum up.
So there was a very good peaceful protest by.... Lafayette Park? Right outside the White House. They were chanting, they had multiple reporters in the crowd, it was fucking CHILL, people were waiting for Trump to do a speech in the Rose Garden.
Then, out of nowhere, truly NOWHERE, the cops closed in from three directions and threw gas into the crowd. They used rubber bullets on the crowd IMMEDIATELY. One dude told the reporter âThey donât care about news, move.â They drove out the totally fucking peaceful, pre-curfew protestors.
They moved them all out, and Trump started speaking, and you could hear the fucking gas going off over his speech. CNN fucking did a splitscreen to show the peopple being shoved back as the motherfucker stood up there and said he would protect our rights and would mobilize the military against people.
Then back to the reporters, and everyone was forced further and further away. One woman on a bike told the reporter âThey are getting the water cannons ready, you wanna move.â
TURNS OUT.
ALL OF THIS.
WAS BECAUSE TRUMP WANTED A PHOTO OP AT THE CHURCH ACROSS THE STREET. HE WANTED THEM OUT OF THE WAY SO HE COULD STAND WITH A BIBLE IN FRONT OF A CHURCH.
Even CNN is calling him a dictator, at 7PM.
Then the Illinois governor came out and called him a racist, xenophobic, misogynistic failure.
ETA: OH AND AFTER THE FACT one of the CNN ppl said that the cops claimed they gave three warnings to the crowd to disperse. There were reporters literally in the crowd, and didnât mention hearing anything along those lines and where as shocked as anyone when the crowd was forced to move. So theyâre fucking lying.
