Genuinely just a good man. Wife adopts teenage witch that needs a place to stay in the city? Sure. Even though you got a kid on the way? That’s fine. Cat too? Love cats.
My favorite moment with him is when he goes to get some prepped baking sheets and he does this fancy twirl with them in front of Jiji. Like, there’s no other people in the room, he does this to impress a cat.
I don’t think he ever says more than a whole word the entire movie, and I still love him more than most Disney princes based on this one moment alone.
And the part where he wanted to surprise Kiki by making that beautiful elaborate sign OUT OF BREAD to advertise her business and he was all anxious for her to get home and see it
But then when he sees her coming he gets all bashful and runs away 😭
Love goth culture but not really loving this prevalent shift into distinct gender presentation that's developed as its become accepted in society. Or the... I guess gentrification is the wrong word.
Like. You remember goths with huge ratty hair and KISS makeup and men in heels and corsets and women in huge shapeless sweaters till you couldn't tell who was under what? Remember when the clothes were hand-shredded from the thrift store for five dollars and some spit?
My first black lipstick was eyeliner. What's this Women Get Crop Tops Only For $60 crap. What's this Being Goth Too Expensive shit. Girl draw ur nails on with sharpie and embrace damnation wtfff
Alt fashion being gentrified (which is the right word, you nailed it) is the most bullshit thing. My forebears didn't thrift/shoplift leather and jeans and hold their clothes together with pins and dye their hair together at whoever's house had a sink sprayer just so modern punks could lament the cost of a good battle jacket and ripped pair of off-the-rack jeans like! Girl!! Rip them yourself!! Throw box dye in your hair and leave it on for an hour before rinsing in the sink!! Keep your jeans for so long they tear THEN pin that shit together!! The entire point was that we didn't contribute to the capitalist machine by buying new things!!

Okay so I'm gonna apologise now, I'm about to add a fair bit to this (I'm doing my masters project on the gentrification of alternative subcultures so this is a HUGE key interest for me)
A staple goth fashion item was literal shopping bags. My friend's mum (an ex trad goth) distinctly remembers one time she went to meet her friends and 4 of them were wearing plastic bags from Waterstones, and one wearing a one from the local farmers market. Idfgi when people tell me "I wish I looked like you but I don't have the money to dress goth" when I'm walking round wearing an outfit that cost a grand total of like £16 and goth fashion IS ENTIRELY BASED ON KEEPING THINGS CHEAP, EASY AND ACCESSIBLE.
I've made these breakdown images of outfits I've worn as a way to shed some light on how to dress in an alternative manner without breaking the bank. Honestly, the best dressed goths are the skint ones, and as a skint bitch I ain't spending a lot of money on clothing. The idea of "goth brands" is weird to me because none of my clothing is branded as gothic, it's just all about finding what to layer with what.
The *entire* point of dressing in a punk/goth/alt fashion is to go against the system. The system wants to sell you fast fashion clothes for the next flash trend. Say "nah" to that, and go to your local thrift shop. I can promise you, all my charity shop clothes were originally made for "mainstream" people, and yet here I am, having fun and experimenting with them.
Sorry for adding so much to this post, I just got excited 😂 I should also mention, a lot of people have this weird assumption that goth clothing is uncomfortable and that plays a huge part in the fast fashion aspects. I wear skinny *elasticated* jeans because it's comfy. I wear loose shirts and turtlenecks bc it's a sensory thing I crave. I put clear nail varnish on the backs of my studded accessories bc I'm allergic to cheap metals. And you bet your ass I'm wearing comfy socks at all times 24/7. The point is, goth clothing is supposed to be tailored to *you* - super-tight and super-loose clothing became a thing BECAUSE OF ACCESSIBILITY. Found a top you like but it's a size 6 and you're a size 12? hmm, will it stretch/tear/etc? yes? GET IT. Found a top you like but it's a size 22 Tall and you're a size 6 Petite? Sweet, crack out the safety pins and bunch that bastard up.
The mere existence of "goth brands" and fast fashion Goth clothing just... Doesn't make sense whatsoever?????
Pro tip: fabric dyes are your friend (especially when you're charity shopping). Look for silhouettes/patterns/textures that you like, look for clothes that have additional accessories attached that you can remove and recycle later on (think unnecessary extra buttons/straps/etc sewn onto tops), and look for things that can be easily altered (do I have extensive knowledge of fashion design? Yeah. Will I ever use my sewing machine on an item of my wardrobe that's not for a costume? Hell no. I'm out here attacking clothes with scissors like a 5 year old that's not being closely monitored by parents lmao)
If you buy shit at goodwill with the intention of reselling it for twice what you initially paid for you are not a "sustainable depop girlie" or a "vintage shop" or a "thrift curator," you are a shark.
