Some statistics do exist, and at first glance, the data seem remarkably close. A 2018 study concluded that mild brain injury occurs in 23.6% of MMA fighters. Following the 2018 NFL regular season, 25% of concussion screenings came up positive, according to league officials.

Now while MMA fighters are likely a smaller pool than NFL League the percentages being that close as well as one has the goal of directly striking to the head for a knockout vs not trying to knock your opponent unconscious. I would stretch to say that even 25% of ALL levels and ages of football players are experiencing this. What other research discusses is that average NFL lineman can absorb 1,000 to 1,500 sub-concussive head impacts in a single season. Which very obviously accumulates greater damage. 1 in 4 football athletes who are screen for concussions have recieved one and the sport itself is priming their bodies like a Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy timebomb through continuous sub-concussion impacts from just 1 season. The continuation also of concussion screening regulations in Football vs MMA/Combat Sports will vary for how these are considered or reviewed or caught.

This is literally what people are talking about when they say AI will be used to mainstream widely held bigotry. LLMs are trained on frequency and probability -> straight relationships are more well represented in the dataset -> straight pronouns and terms become the "correct" normal.

This is a form of backdoor bigotry from both normative facts (there are more straight than gay relationships) and well represented bigoted beliefs (men are superior to women).

Combine this with the mass of people inclined to believe (and being encouraged to believe) that if AI says and does something it must be correct

I worked briefly in regulating AI back when the US actually believed in that and this was exactly the shit that I, the single queer enby in the office, spent trying to beat into the heads of all the white straight men around me.

It is worth noting that as one of its first actions, the Trump administration pulled federal funding and halted federal work on preventing bias in AI (and then proceeded to rip up all the guardrails I and my fellow ethicists had installed).

dont use adhesives on important stuff they degrade really quickly and can damage things

some paper is much more acidic than others and will degrade and damage things touching it. newspaper and construction paper are the worst and will mess up other papers theyre next to

printed photographs have chemicals that can react really badly to temperatures and dampness and you should keep them separate from other materials

soft and thin plastics also degrade really quickly (unless theyre archival grade) and are the worst to deal with

keep a copy of digital files in at least one separate location (flash drive or hard drive)

personally i think everyone should do this because its worth having a record of your life

some inks will fade over time or bleed onto whatever theyre on. archival ink is a thing but there are also just some inks that are more stable

rubber bands break within a few years, paper clips and staples will rust and damage the paper if theyre not made of the right material

exposing photos or any material with colors to light for a while will obviously degrade them over time and theres not much you can to do restore them at that point

you lowkey should print out digital correspondence or materials if you want to keep them long term and be able to find them regardless of what happens to that email domain, website etc. its not uncommon to have printed out email threads in archival collections

these seem to have been more common in the 70s-90s but those photo albums with thin plastic and slight adhesive pages are terrible and will damage your photos and make them stuck forever

this is what acidic paper does to anything its touching after a few decades so watch out

home-burned CD's/DVD's degrade in like 10 to 20 years. flash drives/SSD's need to be powered up now and again to be able to retain their data without getting corrupted (they generally only guarantee data for 1 year without power, although data might stay uncorrupted for a lot longer). Hard drives are more reliable over a longer time of storage.

(i transferred all my old school projects and photos and data and pirated stuff from binders full of burned dvd's to hard drives a few years back and only like half of the files were still recoverable after ~15 years).

You are trying to explain the trajectory of research on trans issues, and how the informed consent model came about as a wildly successful alternative to the gatekeeping model because time and again, people with clinical experience who actually cared about their patients found that just letting trans people transition was easier and the fear that it would lead to something bad was unfounded.

The Principle Understander is shouting at you that the medicalization of trans people is inherently unjust, and even the informed consent provider is still a gatekeeper, just a more lenient one.

You are already aware of this.

You are talking to someone who, as a first priority, needs to know what the worse gatekeeping model looks like.

The person you're talking to is asking "but isn't it good to give patients more time to think before making irreversible changes?" because they didn't hear the part where you explained that asking patients about their masturbation habits has nothing to do with anyone's safety.
