"Good, Iâm glad to hear that. I liked them all when I met them." She sat down at a booth.
He smiled, nodding, and took the seat opposite of her. He looked at the menu, scanning over it. "I'll probably get the biggest serving of butterbeer they have to be honest."Â
Mel giggled and blushed when he fixed her scarf. âSheâs doing really well. Sheâs just gotten engaged a few months ago. Sheâs happy. Howâs your family?â
"That's awesome. The family is good, I just saw them during Christmas. Bethany just started at St. Mungo's as a trainee healer. Shara is the same as always. Lizzie just started High School and Jacob started Middle School."Â
Mel giggled softly. She took Jerryâs hand and hopped down. âThat sounds amazing. Thank you.â
He held on tightly to her hand, weaving their fingers together, using his free hand to adjust her scarf before they started walking towards the shops. "How's your sister doing anyway?" He asked her, pushing the door to Three Broom Sticks open, finding seats in the back near the fireplace.Â
"Yes but with bigger boobs now," she teased him. Mel sat up straighter. "Oh, I havenât been here in ages. Even though my sister lives in town."
"You're one of those people who gets better with age," he smiled at her. "Come on," he said as the carriage stopped, hopping off and helping her down. "You're going to love it. First stop Three Broomsticks?"Â
"Good, less competition," she teased. "You liked me since then? But that was the first day we met. And I was short and had frizzy hair and no boobs."
"Isn't that still you?" He teased her back. "Okay, kidding, kidding." The buildings of Hogsmeade were becoming visible.Â
"No? I mean, Iâve had a crush on you for absolute ages."
"I think you're the only one," he laughed. "Remember when I got my hand stuck behind that bookcase? I liked you since you helped me pull it out."Â
Mel leaned against Jerry. He was big and warm and familiar. âI really did think youâd moved on. Iâm not that special. And surely youâre in high demand,â she said softly.
"High demand? Are you kidding?"Â
Melanie nodded and let him help her into the carriage. âMia? Are there any other girls? Annora, Mia,â she teased him. âItâs okay if it was the same,â she said, though she couldnât imagine how no one was head over heels for him. He was perfect.
"That's it, I promise." He put his arm around her as they rode in the carriage, the cold air hitting them slightly. "Thanks, but it wasn't. It couldn't be."Â
"Please donât ask him. And donât try to buy me one. I can make it through on mine. I shouldnât have said anything." Melanie didnât like asking for help, itâs how she was. She smiled at Jerryâs kiss; it made her feel warm and fuzzy inside. The girl gave his hand a squeeze.
"Whatever you say little one." He told her, but still planned on talking to Jerry. "Come on?" He climbed up on the carriage, and then helped Melanie up. "Admittedly I haven't been to Hogsmeade in too long. I tried once, when you were gone. I took a girl, Mia, that I thought I liked. But, it wasn't the same." He admitted.Â
"Iâm sure he wouldnât mind. But I canât just ask someone for something that expensive. I wouldnât feel right. Iâll be fine, Jere. I promise." She looked up and puckered her lips, wanting a kiss.
"I understand, but I'm positive it wouldn't make a dent. I can ask him for you. I'm sorry, I would buy you one myself but muggle money doesn't transfer well to wizarding money." He smiled, giving her a quick kiss before walking on towards the carriages that would take them to Hogsmeade.Â
"Jerry, no. I wonât jeopardize your team because you traded brooms with me. Itâs gotten me this far and I canât afford a new broom."
"I don't know what to... How about Dominic? Can you ask him? His family is loaded with money. I'm sure he wouldn't mind getting you one."Â
"Donât sound so surprised, goodness," she teased him. "I know, but you wonât let me get hurt. If anything, my crappy old broom will be the thing that makes it difficult."
"I don't want you falling..." his voice trailed off. "I can give you my broom? And I'll take yours."
"Iâm not that strong. Iâm just doing what I need to get by. Angie was always giggling. She wouldnât want me to be sad. She would want me to be happy with life." She swung his arm. "Itâs not bad. I made the Ravenclaw team. Maybe you could help me work on my flying a little bit. Or is it bad luck to help the opposing side?"
He gave her hand a squeeze, pushing the large entrance doors open. "Did you really?" He was surprised. "No, of course not. I'll help you. Although I have to warn you, it's going to be tough with this snow."Â
Mel held his hand tight, swinging their arms. âI cried a lot. I tried hanging out with my muggle friends. i mostly locked myself in my room and watched television on my laptop and cried and ate chocolate. It was just bad,â she said sadly. âWhat have you been up to? Besides kissing Annora,â she teased.
He looked down at her, sympathetically smiling. "I would too. If anything happened to my siblings... well, I don't know how I would take it. You're very strong, you know that? Still smiling." He told her. "Oh, hmm let's see," he laughed. "Is it bad that I've been idle? I literally haven't really done much of anything not school or quidditch related."Â
Mel smiled. âI think old traditions sound nice. Especially if they include you.â She reached for his hand and started walking out of Ravenclaw Tower.
He smiled shyly for a second, leading her down the stairs of Hogwarts, careful not to take the stairs that were known for moving. "What did you do while you were away?"Â
"Yes sir." She got up and slid her shoes back on. "That sounds lovely. I missed Butterbeer. They donât have that in the muggle parts." She reached for her warm cloak.
He reached into his bag, pulling out a pair of gloves and a scarf, adding them to his attire. "Come on then. I think you'll like this, you need a little bit of old traditions."Â
"Part of me is saying that I want to kiss you some more but the other part is saying that thatâs not going very slow. Youâre conflicting me. A huge inner turmoil is going on right now."
"Let's take it slow little one. We both need that I think." He got off the bed and straightened his shirt out. "It's still snowing and cold, perfect if you want something warm at three broomsticks?"Â
