Real dumb question, how do you solve the Wayward Guide riddle? I got my postcard in the mail today and I figured out the DIAL NUMBER bit but, for the life of me, I cannot figure out the number.
I’ll explain the whole way to work out the postcards. If you would prefer to get a hint you can message me privately instead but this might be a lot easier for some people who want to know the answer without having to ask me directly.
Firstly before revealing it in steps I will say pay real close attention to every line of text of the riddle on the back of the card because basically each line will help!
Don’t read past this point if you don’t want a complete reveal
————
1. make sure you have all three postcards available to you
2. On the front of each postcard it will have a phrase mine was ‘come for ... “Lanterns, Meat and Underwear” the capitals of each word are in bubble text and are letters you need to remember. Each word will correspond to a picture on a card. (You should have once checking all cards D,I,A,L,N,U,M,B,E,R)
3. This is where the lines ‘close together’ and ‘The difference is clear to see’ become important. All 3 cards have a different array of pictures on them. What you want to do is count all the pictures that aren’t repeated. As the non-repeated pictures are the difference in the cards. It’s hard to explain but for example just comparing card three and two there are 5 eggs in total on card three and 3 in total on card two (and there no eggs on card one) when comparing card two and three the 3 eggs on card two are positioned in the same place as 3 of the eggs on card three. Those pictures are the same on both cards, but you want to ignore what is the same. You want to look for what is different. As card three has 2 eggs on it that don’t appear on card two or anywhere else, the word Eggs or E= 2. You want to repeat this comparison with all 10 sets of pictures. Counting the differences for each set not the pictures that are the same.
4. You should result in having D= 2 I= 2 A=4 etc Now it’s not in the right order to call. What you have to do is rearrange the letters with it’s corresponding number into alphabetical order. (As the clue of the back says A to Z) As Apple starts with A it’s corresponding number 4 will be first then Beers (B) corresponding number 4 and so on.
5. Then you simply add all 10 numbers in order to the +1 (which is the number shown on the back smudged) and you will be able to call it.
I won’t post the number here just yet but you can message it to me and I’ll check for you.
