Shot for Bored to Death and From the Earth
It’s an honor to premier Gianna Gianna’s new video “Anvil Chorus / Orange” on Bored to Death. This is the second video to come out from her new EP that will be released this summer 2017. Gianna Gianna has been fusing her amazing style of pop with her unique performance art over the years that has been an inspiration to me and many others. I can’t wait to see and hear from her in the near future. Video shot by Kool Skull Directed by Gianna Gianna Track produced and mastered by Gianna Gianna

DEAD WASTE - BUMMERFEST
Dead Waste-- Bummerfest on Planet X cassette This band is fucking brutal and for once is not a “power violence” band…. Hear me out. I’m not writing out the genre. In fact, I’m a pretty big fan of a few PV bands and not to mention have some friends involved in projects. But for awhile that’s all I was seeing at shows. Every one you went to you were guaranteed to catch a power violence band with a 7” that was only 2 minutes long and still had kids bitch about how “Charles Bronson wouldn’t do that”…. Listening to Dead Waste blew my mind. Not only was I stoked on members of NASA Space Universe and Surgeons being in it, I was stoked on the nostalgia I felt listening towards the tracks. It reminded me of the first time I jerked off into a bible and gave me hope for the future of DIY shows. First off, the rhythm section (Paul on bass and Vincent of drums) are phenomenal. Paul’s playing makes me want to shake and contort while Vince’s drum beats make me want to bash my head into a wall. The guitar and fuzzy synth tracks blends it up all nicely and the earsplitting vocals are the icing on top of the cake. The demo is 7 tracks. The only other thing I can really say about the recordings (and Dead Waste) is that I want more! Cheers.

Ok. SO. I was supposed to review the new Death Grips album, No Love Deep Web, but what is there to say that Pitchfork and numerous other trendy music sites haven’t already said. The album is great. Zach Hill is awesome. MC Ride is a genius. Blah blah blah….
Instead, I scraped up gas money...
The first time I met Romie was at some randos apartment in Long Beach. The only reason I went was because a buddy of mine didn’t want to go alone. Little did I know, that meeting would lead to further events in my “musical journey” (whatever that means). As a blunt was being passed around...
Finally got a hold of the long awaited solo album from Seth Bogart (Hunx), entitled ‘Hairdresser Blues’. The album dropped February 28th on independent record label Hardly Art. You can pick up the album on CD, LP, or Mp3 format.
This album steps away from the nostalgic 60’s pop/Ramonesish punk sound his current band, Hunx and his Punx, present. Not that thats anything bad at all. This album still captures the catchy song writing Seth creates. The album starts off with Your Love is Here To Stay. A cute track that grabs your attention and starts the flow of what you think is going to be a collection of lovey-dovey songs, which is the case the first couple. But then as the album plays on, the lyrics progressively get you more into that “you left me, hurt me, get bent” kind of mentality. Seth has always done a great job at doing this. That being said, the instrumentation is superb and definitely catchy. Everytime I listen to this album I can’t help either dancing or bopping my head vigorously to the poppy beats being played. The LP consist of 10 tracks only lasting 26 minutes long. Although that may seem short, you’ll find yourself compulsively spinning the album. Catch Hunx and His Punx March 21 at the Echo in Echo Park and pick up a copy of the album here: http://www.hardlyart.com/index2.html

French Exit/Signals Midwest 7” Split
Awesome new 7” out on On the Real Records!
French Exit (Los Angeles, CA) and Signals Midwest (Cleveland, OH) are 2 legit bands who play kick-ass pop/punk with their own melodic twist. These dudes always put on incredible shows and make people lose it. The split was released on January 17 this year on the DIY label, On the Real Records. Both groups premier 2 brand new songs on the release.
French Exit have the first 2 tracks titled, “Dominoes” and “Only Not”. Both songs packing heat and full of angst towards that shitty girl/boy who keeps fucking with your head. These guys don’t hold back. 3 other awesome releases you can stream on their bandcamp: http://frenchexit.bandcamp.com/
Signals Midwest closes it out with their 2 tracks, “Milkcrate” and “Stale Air”. Amazing follow up on the 2011 release, “Latitudes and Longitudes”. Guitar riffs that are sweet candy to the ears backed with lyrics that’ll draw you in and put you in his (Maxwell—vocals, guitar) shoes. I caught these guys at VLHS last year and became an immediate fan. Check ‘em out. You won’t be disapointed: http://signalsmidwest.bandcamp.com/
Stream and buy the new 7” here on On the Real’s bandcamp!
