Solitary // St. Berry
Rachel shook her head when Jesse said that they all made mistakes. She knew that he had hurt her before, but it didnât make her feel any less worse for what she had done. âThat doesnât make it any better,â she muttered. âIts not about being even and I donât want it to just be completely absolved because you made a mistake before I did,â she said firmly. She shook her head and reached her finger up to his lips to get him to stop talking when he tried rationalizing what she had done to make it sound like it wasnât as big a deal just because she was âlost in loveâ. âIts not your job to keep me happy. Especially not after how unhappy I made you,â she muttered after dropping her hand back to her side. âAside from when you pretty much yelled at me a few days ago..something which I deserved despite the terrible timing, youâve always been kinder to me than youâve ever had to. So I accept the fact that I messed up. And Iâm sorry,â she said with a nod.
After she quoted him about regretting what she had done, she looked up at him and waited for a response nervously. She wasnât sure what kind of reaction sheâd get out of him. He could probably get annoyed with her for using his words in a different situation, but she was willing to accept whatever reaction he gave her. When he just said that they should put it behind them, she glanced up at him with slight confusion, but nodded silently. âIf thatâs what you want,â she muttered. When he told her that it wasnât safe out there, she shrugged and looked around at the spot she had called âhomeâ for the past few days. Her eyes snapped back to him when he said that he missed her. âYou really missed me, Jesse?â She looked down when he mentioned Finn. Even though she was worried about him, she didnât want to think about him right now at this very moment and she felt terrible for it. Her lips cracked into the slightest smile when he poked fun at the fact that she couldnât get a fire going. Sighing, she stepped forward and wrapped her arms around his middle to pull him into a hug. Letting her head rest against his chest, she closed her eyes and just stood there for a moment to enjoy the comforting feeling she got from it. âPlease donât pull away,â she murmured quietly.
"It may not be my job to keep you happy, Rachel, but that doesn't stop me from wanting to do it. I know I told you that I would rather never see you again, but honestly that was a lie. Even if you're with someone else, I still would like to be your friend. I was speaking out of haste, which I shouldn't have done. I could never imagine a life without you in it. Whether it be as friends or more. Or even less. All I know is that, had we never spoken again, I would've been spending mass amounts of money on tickets to your Broadway shows in the future. I probably would've ended up going to every performance, every night and even for the matinees," he laughed lightly. "You may have made me unhappy when you kissed Hudson, but at the same time you made me happy. Just seeing you smile and light up when he was talking to me was enough to make me happy. You also gave me some of the best moments of my life. I had never gone to a prom before because I was always too busy practicing, yet I had so much fun just because I was with you. And all those other moments when we were together. It may kill me inside to know you chose him over me... but you did make me happy. You made me the happiest I've ever been and I suppose that's why I got so angry a few days ago. I thought my happy moments with you were over."
When Rachel asked if he had really missed her, he didn't even respond. He just looked off into her eyes. He knew that Rachel could get the answer just by the look he was giving her. They were always good at being able to read each other. As she wrapped her arms around him for a hug, he smiled and closed his eyes. Resting his head on hers lightly, he wrapped his arms around her and kept her close to his body. He had missed their hugs; the feeling of her body against his was beyound the greatest feeling in the world to him. Not even winning another award could feel this great. "Never," he responded. He would never pull away from her. She would have to be the one to do so. He'd wanting for so long just to hug her again, there was no way he was going to be the one to break it up now.
