Fun question: How long is TCF (part 1)?

To be more specific – how many words are there in the English version of the webnovel "Trash/Lout of the Count's Family"?

I looked it up and of course, I found no answers. Which naturally meant I had to make research and calculations of my own.

(Bear in mind, I might have made a mistake or more somewhere. So take my results with a grain of salt.)

Here's what I know:

by checking many random chapters one by one, I discovered that while there is no standard chapter length, they're always somewhere between 2,500 and 4,500 words (excluding the short prologue). There might be some shorter or longer outliers, but I haven't come across them

the most common length is somewhere between 3,000 and 3,500 words per chapter

there are currently 776 chapters in Part 1 (not counting the extra chapters released afterwards)

I had to subtract a bit from the final totals due to additional words located on the website pages I was using, but it was less than 80,000 words, so I don't think that number matters a lot (you'll see in a moment why...)

Based on this information, I calculated that TCF Part 1:

is at least 1.86 million words at Minimum

has the Average of somewhere between 2.25 and 2.64 million words

at Maximum has 3.42 million words in total

(For reference, there are 576,459 words in the Lord of the Rings series, 757,439 words in the Bible, and 1,084,170 words in the entire Harry Potter series. Meaning TCF is probably at least as long all three of those combined.)

...Pretty jaw-dropping, huh??

recently learned about a horticultural technique called Espalier, it’s the funniest goddamn thing i’ve ever seen.

Espalier allows trees to be trained into 2-dimensions, by tying the branches to a flat surface as the tree grows. They literally flatten the tree. They make the tree flat. Flat tree!!!

Espalier is actually a very useful technique for

increasing fruit yield

gardening is small spaces

maximizing or minimizing sunlight (since the branches all face the same direction) and therefore extending the growing season

Like. this is a legitimately practical gardening method. but it looks like they squished a tree between the pages of a book. just squashed it flat like a sad little dried flower! i could use these trees as a bookmark!!!

But yes, it is also a healthy and clever way to grow lots of fruit in small spaces, in climates they might not otherwise be suited for. I’m still going to make fun of it, but it honestly looks delightful and delicious.

Late-night thoughts

Know how it’s usually said that Frisk and Chara in Undertale have red (or brown) eyes? I read something that said that, at the end of the souless pacifist route, Frisk’s eyes turn red and they appear like Chara. And that was the only actual thing with red eyes in the game or something, and it said that it might’ve been something because Chara was possessing Frisk or something else. Can’t help but be reminded of Deltarune when Kris is shown with red eyes as well. Maybe instead of possession, it’s more like they aren’t controlled by the players anymore. Since it happens at the end of the games when the player is just watching the result of their actions when they were playing as them. But maybe their eyes are naturally red too.

I have expanded the traditional 4 types; Highspeed, Elliptical, Low Aspect and High Aspect ratio, because they were very narrow and vague categories for the most part, adding High Energy, Thermal Soaring, Night Glider, and Passerine wings. I feel that these extra types make it easier to understand and visualize the differences and similarities between wing shapes.

I’ve renamed Low Aspect to Powered Soaring, and High Aspect to Dynamic Soaring for the purposes of the fact that names made it hard to understand purpose and were easily confusable. 

A lot of these wing types are also affected by tailfeather shape and size, and that will change their agility and energy expenditure as the tail also generates lift.

Jesus’ message was never that God would magically put food on people’s tables. God would provide opportunities to help each other, like the boat captains offering to help the dying man. That only works if people actually help each other

When I first heard this joke as a teenager I laughed at the guy who didn’t take the help that was offered to him. As an adult, I think of all the Christian politicians who vote against food stamps and I want to tell them “You were the boat captain but you steered away from the man in need instead of offering him help. Is that really what God wanted you to do?”
