best video of the year so far...
I was obsessed with the Dave Matthews Band when I was in high school. I would go to the 3 shows in Boston, the 2 in Hartford and the one in Providence, RI. While I would never put on a DMB playlist now, and am pretty glad I didn’t get that #41 tattoo, I feel indebted to that band because I feel like they taught me to love music.
Somehow, I don’t remember specifically how, I discovered The Roots. I was blown away by non-radio hip-hop. From there it lead me down a path of Jurassic 5, to Eyedea, to Atmosphere, to RJD2, the whole Rhymesayers, Def Jux, Stones Throw scene.
Dilla.
In college I think I single handled kept Turntable Lab in business (the amount of $5-$7 illegally sold/burned dj mixes I own is hefty). I would drag my friends to Cut Chemist at the Middle East Downstairs (ie basement) or Diplo at Great Scott (a sh*tty dive bar that has a 240 cap).
Then the internet took off, AOL Spinner will go down as the most underrated blogs in history, in my opinion. My taste became whatever I thought was good / festival culture (although I can feel that dwindling for me personally, as phases do).
Now I’ll randomly get super into music from the past, and deep dive into Dolly Parton, or Nina Simone, or The Residents…who’s knows what’s next?

MAGNETS LYRICS
for those who have been asking..
-
V1
never really felt bad about it
as we drank deep from the lie
cause i felt melting magnets, babe
the second i saw you through half-shut eyes
PRE
smoke and sunset
off mulholland
he was talking
i was wondering ‘bout you
and that girl
is she your girlfriend?
face from heaven
bet the world she don’t know
pretty girls don’t know the things that i know
walk my way, i’ll share the things that she won’t
CHORUS
uh-oh, dancing past the point of no return
let go, we can free ourselves of all we’ve learnt
i love this secret language that we’re speaking
say it to me, let’s embrace the point of no return
let’s embrace the point of no return
let’s embrace the point of no return
V2
never really thought we would make it
we’d be thinking 'bout what could have been
but we’ve had a record summer, can’t turn it down
now i don’t wanna see the end begin
