❝You heard me, shove over, mate. You shouldn’t be driving like this.❞ He never knew why Max was so damn secretive. He’d been somewhat the same before the whole end of the world thing. It was like he thought he wasn’t actually sick if he didn’t acknowledge it. But if they didn’t do something about that cut he’d be buzzard food in no time. A fever always spelled trouble in the wastes but a fever and an infected wound was almost always a death sentence. Goose would be damned if he let Max die. Nobody else wanted a half-blind half-scorched smartass ex-MFP officer as their travel companion and he was much too social to be alone. And, there was officially no one else alive he loved more.
Still, he’s silent about his motives.
❝Lay down in the back with Dog and I’ll drive. We’re going in circles anyway.❞
Send 😴 for my muse to fall asleep with their head in your muse’s lap.
There’s a moment of silence from Goose, those are rare and usually the exact opposite of a good thing. He’s thinking which is also usually the exact opposite of a good thing. The wound. It looks terrible. He wants to technicolor yawn just from the smell. One’s nose becomes dulled after not bathing for an extended period of time. That was an infection. A bacterial colony feeding off dead skin. What had to happen first? Debridement. He needed a rough cloth and some clean water. After he scrubbed the everliving shot out of it there had to be antibiotics and ointment and bandages. Yes, he knew what to do.
But they were in the middle of nowhere. The absolute epitome of the outback. Even when civilization had been thriving, sepsis was risky business. Goose could only hope and pray it wasn’t really in his blood, that his body was working so hard to fight off the infection it had spiked a fever. He wished he had water to spare, to at least cool Max down a little and flush out some of the pus. This was a nightmare. Drastic times call for drastic measures.
He sighs and leans back, though he looks less than pacified.
❝Alright, I’m driving.❞

@thatsmyhead continued from here.
This is causing Goose a great deal of internal strife and it’s visible. He runs a hand through his hair and miserably groans. He should have noticed something was wrong with Max but it was hard to tell. He was always himself, reserved, quiet, perhaps more distant but the guy got like that sometimes. He was so hard to read. One would assume they could hear their only companion’s thoughts after such a lengthy stint of time but Max had only gotten more confusing since he’d met him.
How was he supposed to know? Goose was the one who did most of the talking, gesturing and screaming.
❝Christ, why didn’t you tell me sooner? What am I supposed to do if you go cactus?❞ One burnt hand rests against the back of Max’s neck trying to get a gage on his temperature. His mind was calculating, though slowly. He’d cut his foot. Goose couldn’t remember how long ago, time didn’t pass normally in the wastes. ❝Let me see your leg, if you managed to get sepsis I’m going to blow a gasket.❞
