     Trailing far behind, Xun found the situation odd. This particular route had  been deemed unsafe for transporting cargo due to rough terrain, where enough complications justified the warning. Save for the crackles of dirt beneath his boots, the strategist remained light on his feet. Time proved a disadvantage without a horse - then the carriage suddenly lurched. Surely a lapse in focus, but as they swerved, a driver flew into the air and collided into a nearby tree.

     Gradually closing the distance, Xun resisted the urge to speed forward, still unsure of the situation at hand (inexperience was a likely culprit). Chaos ensued as the remaining horses lost control, toppling the carriage behind. The back door flung open on impact, yet no supplies fell out. What did appear was more than simple cargo.

     Weapons drawn, Lu Xun kept his distance, unimpressed as these bandits scrambled to tame the horses.“Have you an explanation for this? Or shall my blades speak for you?”

    With a powerful shove, it took a moment for Jingmian to register that the carriage was tumbling over. A slight delay eventually allowed her to instinctively raise her hands in order to brace for impact, her body flinging against one side to the other as the cart landed on its side. Although taken by surprise, she slowly came to the conclusion that everything came to a halt, allowing herself to sit back up.

    Looking out the back door, noting that it was thrown open, she slowly realized that someone familiar bore witness to the scene – Lu Xun. A relieved smile curved her lips for a brief moment, the assurance that she was going to be saved comforting her.

    The shuffling of feet was what kept her inside, however, as the bandits nervously lined up between the carriage and Lu Xun and drew their own weapons. After all, they had carried out this heist to plan so far, and they were not going to let one man and a crash disassemble that.

    A bump followed by an abrupt stop was the first indication that something was wrong. Though not entirely forced out of her seat, Jingmian was startled enough to place her hands on the walls to her left and right. It did not take much to piece together that the carriage was spontaneously halted, although the reason was not immediately apparent.

    Leaning forward, Jingmian peered out the window to see what was the holdup, but she reeled back with a gasp as she saw what it was – bandits. They had ambushed the carriage, knocking out ( at least she hoped so ) the driver and the guards. This ambush must have been particularly planned if they were able to overcome guards personally selected by the Sun family.

    Even so, besides a brief glance or two from each brigand – there must have been seven of them, although she did not look long enough to count – they did not look expectingly at the coach. It did not appear they knew she was there. Did they think they actually highjacked a cache? That must have been the case because, without any clear effort of making an exchange with her, they quietly took reign and drove her away.

    Hunched over, Jingmian attempted to keep herself hidden. She focused on trying to take deep, hushed breaths in order to keep herself calm. Impulsively, she wanted to bolt out the door on the back end of the carriage, but logic – and a stronger impulse to stay safe – kept her in place, as she could hear footsteps following the rear as well. At the very least, she was only an hour outside Guangling, so someone might notice the suspicious traversing.

    Until then, the vehicle she previously resided in with content became her prison.
